Thinnest laptop with optical drive
Review of Toshiba Portege R500-100 - Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: very slim, very light, 3 year guarantee, long battery life
Disadvantages: Pricey (average specifications for a very high price)
...The Portege R500 is a new range of ultra-thin laptops by Toshiba. This laptop consists of a 12" (30 cm) wide screen display with an integrated optical drive. With the addition of the optical drive Toshiba's R500 range have become the thinnest laptops in the world which feature 7mm super-slim DVD SuperMulti drives.
The Toshiba Portege R500-100 is one of many new Toshiba laptops that weigh just under 1 kilogram (0.98 kg to be exact). You will get an all day battery life, all day battery life meaning up to 8 hours depending on what you do on the laptop. For example. If you play the next generation of video games, then obviously a lot of processing power is required, which most definitely requires a large amount of electrical energy in a fairly small period of time.
With this laptop you have a Toshiba standard guarantee of 3 years...

A lean machine
Review of Toshiba Portege R500-100 - Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
st.v1
Advantages: Weight, battery, screen
Disadvantages: FIngerprint software
...The Portege R500-100 is a featherweight machine that packs a welterweight punch. Some things are excellent - the weight obviously, the battery life (up to 5 hours), the speed, the screen (when it's on full power), and the keyboard. Toshiba has packaged the machine well, with a handy set of utilities, such as HDD protection (although this can be annoying when you're on a bumpy train - even if it is doing its job), the ConfigFree software (with its quick connect to different networks, wireless and Bluetooth connectivity), and power saving options.
Switching between monitors and Digital TVs (if they are fitted with a PC connection) shows that the graphics card isn't bad at all. Sound is good too, although the Realtek audio mixer is basic.
The touchpad drove me to distraction until I found how to turn it off while I typed - it...

Toshiba Portege G900 - Mobile Office
Review of Toshiba Portege G900 by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: QWERTY keyboard, fingerprint security, bluetooth. wi-fi, windows mobile 6
Disadvantages: Costly, considerably large
...Toshiba are not renowned for their mobile phones, but more for their innovations in other technological areas. The Toshiba Portege G900 is one of a small minority of Toshiba mobile phones, and one of an even smaller minority of personal horizontal slider phones.
Loaded with mobile technology the Toshiba Portege G900 comes with an innovative fingerprint sensor and a full QWERTY Keyboard. The QWERTY keypad is very easy to use making the use of e-mail more efficient.
Being one of the first mobile phones to include Windows mobile 6 , you can read and reply to e-mails as soon as they arrive at your INBOX, you can organize your calendar and make use of the integrated and popular Microsoft Office applications. Other benefits of this phone are that it consists of a generously large 3" screen, two cameras (one for video calling...

Toshiba Portege 3500 - Best of breed, but heavy
Review of Toshiba Portege 3500 - PIII-M 1.33 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
maxmidnight
Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc.
Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.
...Over the past few months, I have been evaluating and rolling out tablet PC's across my organisation within the Health industry. My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, and the Toshiba Portégé 3500. What follows is a brief discussion of the Toshiba Portege 3500 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative.
Of all the tablet PC's currently on the market the Toshiba Portégé 3500 has the best performance of all the systems because it uses the Intel Pentium III-M 1.33 GHz processor and a fast hard drive. Perhaps as a consequence of the faster processor, the Toshiba is also the hottest and noisiest; it is the only Tablet PC I have used which utilises a case fan. Furthermore, it has the shortest battery life (3:05 versus 3:25 for the top-scoring Fujitsu). Unlike...

Toshiba Portege G500 - Business on the go
Review of Toshiba Portégé G500 by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: Finger print recognition, GPS functionality, video calling
Disadvantages: High price, average features.
...The Toshiba Portege G500 was one of two smart phones released in the second quarter of 2007. However, with the introduction of Microsoft's new mobile operating system (Windows Mobile 6), Toshiba decided not to integrate the new system within the Toshiba Portege G500. Instead they went with the older Windows mobile 5 operating system. A wise choice?
This phone like the Toshiba Portege G900 has fingerprint recognition, which is a security bonus for all users who like to keep their personal files private and confidential. Also with the new finger print technology you can program the G500 to respond to different finger prints, giving you the option to create short cuts with each unique and individual finger print.
Windows mobile 5.0 as it is known, makes the G500 seem more like a portable PC than a mobile phone. Like many new smart...

Roadworthy Portege 7220CTe
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
stephbu
Advantages: Size, Performance, Display
Disadvantages: No internal CD.
...As someone else has already pointed out, most laptops are bought as corporate machines, but since I spend most of my life tied to one - I think the Portege is worthy of an opinion.
I travel very long distances, sometimes by train, sometimes by plane. Often away from the office environment all bar a dodgy modem line. I'm quite lucky to be able to choose my work laptop. Dells are prefered by the company.
I chosen the Toshiba above the others because it fits in with my lifestyle... And here's why...
Design, Weight and Size - When I travel by plane, I need to use my laptop, however restrictions on luggage size often mean that space is a real premium in my bag. Robustness is critical where items get bounced around in car boots, or on planes. Ideally I need a package that is as small and light as possible, and yet could offer...

Why the Portege A200 is almost the best. Almost.
Review of Toshiba Portege A200 - Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
Mandrake666
Advantages: Fast, upgradeable, extremely portable and super stylish
Disadvantages: Heatsink blocks up with dust easity, leading to overheating
...I have had several laptops, usually older ones and was given this one by my brother six months back. He'd used it continuously for about a year and it was showing its flaws but after a bit of tweaking it's been a dream, and believe me I'm no light user either!
Mostly I use it to develop software (Visual Studio 2005, C#, .NET) and have it weighted down with SDK's. But, I also edit video in premiere on it, and write music in Cubase with some hefty plug-ins running not to mention a Line 6 TonePort GX and amp modelling software
STRENGTHS
The Toshiba Portege A200 is one of the lightest, slimmest laptops you'll come across, but apart from a slightly poor graphics card it lacks nothing in features and is highly upgradeable. The run time is over 2.5 Hours on a fully charged battery and the 12.1" screen is 1024x768 resolution so although...

To Infinity and Beyond, Toshiba R200 Laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege R200 - Pentium M 753 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
skrg28
Advantages: Build Quality, Light, Small
Disadvantages: None as yet
...INFO
I have been involved with Toshiba laptops for a few years now. First in having one as a work laptop and secondly supporting them for other users.
Toshiba have the ability to create a laptop that is rugged enough to withstand daily use whilst being designed well enough to fit the daily use it was intended for.
The Portege R200 is no exception and is an exceptional laptop for the business traveller. Once given the go ahead to buy a couple of these I couldn't wait to ditch the Dell equivalents.
COST
I managed to secure 2 R200 laptops for a mere £1234 each excluding VAT from Inmac. I have however seen one on EBAY last week for £994. Now that's cheap.
FIRST THOUGHTS
When the first R200 arrived I couldn't believe the size of the box. It's so small you would think it had a couple of paperback novels in it and not a PC...

Top of the range Toshiba
Review of Toshiba Portege M400-3G143 - Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
xxsupergirlxo
Advantages: Great value for what it is, very portable, durable, useful, good screen, fun to use
Disadvantages: Easily breakable keys, no touch screen, only stylus/lightpen useable not fingers.
...This really is what it says it is - Toshiba, the mark of quality and reliability, and Portege, meaning it is portable. The Toshiba Portege is an excellent laptop.
My Experience
When I first got this on order from amazon.co.uk, I looked at the box and thought 'jees its huge!' After stripping down the 100's of layers of wrapping and cardboard on the laptop, I finally got to it. It is very petite in real life, yet a good weight at 2.1 kg - not too heavy but not too light, about the weight of a little over 2 bags of sugar. It's 29.5 cm wide, 24.9 cm high and 3.9cm deep. Very easy to just stick in your backpack if you need it for a school or work project.
Using it is a pleasurable experience! It is excellent to use with either the touch pad or stylus. The stylus is very touch responsive, and this can be utilised for graphics...

Toshiba Portege R100 Review
Review of Toshiba Portege R100 - Pentium M 733 1.1 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
bob_j4
Advantages: Wireless networking, Very Light, Very Fast, Good battery, Sensitive touch pad, Nice design
Disadvantages: Small screen, Sensitive touch pad
...I bought my laptop in march for £1,300 and it is fantastic, it is a lot better than the previous Toshiba laptop I purchased which was also very good. I am yet to find a fault with Toshiba's products and service. I damaged my old laptop twice and both imes my warranty dealt with it brilliantly. In my opinion they are second only to Sony.
Weight and size are very important to me, so this is ideal. The battery is great it lasts me 5 to six hours depending on the task, which is a lot better than any laptop I've had before. The wireless LAN is also very good, easy to set up and works a charm. The touch pad has a few little problems as it has too many functions, e.g. certain parts of it will send you back to the last internet page and other parts will scroll a page when you just want to move the cursor. I suppose it is a good feature...
