...Toshiba, one of the best names in laptop computers about and if you are looking to pay a little less for your laptop but want a good machine then the new Satellite Pro L40 is ideal. It hasn't got dual core but at the end of the day who really needs this. This laptop is and ideal buy for any company that gives laptops to their employees, or whether you want a machine to potter about at home on. Extremely stylish and lite weight, this can be carried anywhere with you and has wi-fi so if you require it for business purposes then don't worry you can still log on in your hotel room. 512MB RAM is quite enough for any user, in my job the files produce are of extreme size and there is no problem storing all this on this machine. ...This is my second Toshiba Satellite. Until recently I have been using a slightly dated but very effective Toshiba Satellite L10-114. Having recently purchased this new one though, I have to say there is a substantial improvement over my old lap top. I run my own business from home and my lap top is my life line and main source of income so it always has to be Toshiba for me. They are so reliable and trustworthy that I will not risk any other make now. The L40-12T is simply a stunning looking machine and creates an instant wow factor - key when using it in front of clients at presentations etc. It looks like a far more expensive machine than it really is. ...I have never seen or used a Toshiba AMD based laptop that was better than this particular piece of kit This is definately a budget machine which is a perfect desktop replacement with a sleek design and attractive display that would appeal. ...solution is to prop up the laptop so that the underside vent can suck enough cool air into the casing. I routinely prop up my laptop with a book. Its very effective but obviously not ideal! In all other respects the machine is solid and reliable. Advantages: Brilliant trubrite screen gives pin sharp image
Disadvantages: keyboard is tight

...Recently upgraded from a Toshiba Satellite 2450 so slightly biased in favour of the brand which I've found to be robust and reliable. This baby is cuter in terms of the graphic capability especially with the 17" trubrite screen which gives a wonderfully clean image - definitely it's biggest selling point. It also has the DVD RW capability plus WiFi which are essential upgrade features. On the matter of upgrades, I like the fact that you can access the memory mode bay on the underside rather than a complex fiddle with keyboards to reach the RAM chips. Speaking of keyboards, this is my one gripe with the Pro. The keyboard's a bit tighter and I find it too easy to hit the up key instead of the Right shift key which is intently irritating. ...this laptop is great, i have bought this for my fiance and my current also toshiba satellite range laptop, although the original battery has just died so that lasted 7years!! its been upgraded to highest spec and the cpu isnt as high as toshiba states its only a 450mhz soi not good for games or very fast on the internet. apart from that its a very good laptop, very loyal for a 7year old laptop i love it. it can have 320mb ram tops and a 20gb hdd so basic really, not alot i can say apart from the speakers have goner after 7years pmsl. spare parts for this isnt that expensive thoug a battery is onlt 30 new and a lead 30 new and memory is 256mb for 20.... ...laptop, the only thing I didn't appreciate was all the stickers over the inside (to the left of the mouse pad), there is a "Desiged for XP" sticker, and "Intel Inside" sticker, one "Bundled with MS OneNote 2003" and a final "Surround Sound" which personally I dont like (hense I removed the last two) I have recomended this laptop to other people who have been looking, Toshiba have many different spec's in the Satellite Pro models, and the final thing about this laptop, the name, "what laptop do you have?" ...Toshiba are a very strong company in regards to their history of building notebooks. They are well established as robust and durable notebooks when dealing with business uses. The Toshiba I personally own I bought from ebay. It was extremely good value and I looked hard for a well specified machine. Buying direct from the Toshiba website would have actually cost me an additional $200 or so, and more importantly for a lower end machine. The beauty behind the Toshiba that I find makes it such a simple machine to use it comprise of basically three main aspects. The notebook comes with rescue disks that if everything goes wrong and you end up formatting the machine all teh factory defaults can be restored within an instant from the provided CD's.
