Typical Toshiba
Advantages: Ease of use, memory capacity
Disadvantages: Quality, feel, value for money
...The Toshiba Satellite L500 is the same as most other toshiba laptops. It looks stylish and can do all the basic functions that you would want for a laptop. However, when you use it, you dont feel very comfortable because it feels very cheap. The keyboard is very flimsy and feels like it is about to break every time you type something and the mouse pad and buttons do not respond well. However, the number pad on the right hand side of the keyboard is great as it makes it so easy to type numbers. You can buy this laptop with a range of processors and sizes of harddrive so you can choose the one which suits you best. The display is actually very good but the battery life could have been improved. On my model it will last for a maximum of 2.5 hours on its lowest power setting.
Overall, this laptop is reasonable at most things but not...

Toshiba Satellite Pro A60
Advantages: Sturdy design Nice Blue colour Get a lot for your money
Disadvantages: Overheating/crashing problems experienced Memory upgrade was necessary Required a lot of tweaking to get 'right'
...The Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 laptop is ideal for entry level home users, and possibly students who have some time on their hands to sort stuff out. I wouldn't say it was suitable for the lower end of the business market, as Toshiba seem to be targeting with this product. I could be wrong however, maybe I was just unlucky!
I have had mine for 8 months now, after previous satellite old faithful, which I had owned for about 7 years, gave up the ghost in the middle of a project, and I needed a cheap laptop quickly. I was impressed by the blue design which veers away from the boring black/grey you're used to seeing on the budget end notebooks.
For the budget it was a toss up between this or a Dell, and in the end I decided to go for the Tosh which wasn't the bottom end of the scale like the Dell was for the same money.
Due to...

Toshiba Satellite U400-138 (User Review)
Advantages: Ultra-Portable, light weight, 13.3", Intel Core2duo, Centrino2 (Latest Technology) laptop
Disadvantages: NOTHING AT ALL
...matching the market (Mac 's still riding on their niche marketing).
Sony. I wanted the Vaio, purely for its vibrant colours, look-stopper value. But again found that they are unnecessarily pricey.
Lenovo. A rock-solid laptop. The 2008 Lenovos are better than their older models, nice black, mirror finish tops. But they are still very boxy. Their contours are out dated, I felt.
Acer. 2nd largest notebook maker. Variety of models. Very competitively priced. But their new models do not look as good as their 2007 ones. These are all plastic, flimsy keypad and I do not fancy their rounded 'gemstone" looks. But, besides the looks, Acer is a very good bargain. I already have one (2007 model).
Now, back to my Toshiba Satellite U400-138. Beating the above 4 brands in specs., though priced like the Sony, this is...

Toshiba Satellite Pro 4280XDVD
Advantages: very powerful fulfil's all your basic needs and then some
Disadvantages: screen can be annoying after a while, battery life only three hours.
...Toshiba are a very strong company in regards to their history of building notebooks. They are well established as robust and durable notebooks when dealing with business uses. The Toshiba I personally own I bought from ebay. It was extremely good value and I looked hard for a well specified machine. Buying direct from the Toshiba website would have actually cost me an additional $200 or so, and more importantly for a lower end machine. The beauty behind the Toshiba that I find makes it such a simple machine to use it comprise of basically three main aspects. The notebook comes with rescue disks that if everything goes wrong and you end up formatting the machine all teh factory defaults can be restored within an instant from the provided CD's. My machine came with Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 98 SE. Giving me amazing...

Toshiba Satellite Pro A100
Advantages: quite pretty, easy to use
Disadvantages: slow
...the model for you. As a brand Toshiba a good, i would recomend them even if you do not pick this model. There are 4 usb ports, you can use wireless internet and netweorking, it has a cd drive and apparently the ability to burn CDs and DVDs, but for some reason i havnt got mine working yet - this may just be me being stupid tho! I am not great with computer hardware, so there are lots more things that this model has that i wouldnt be able to explain,so sorry about that. The laptop is quite light compared to many other laptops. Overall, this laptop it good, if a bit slow....
