Slim Toshiba DVD player performs well
Review of Toshiba SD340E by
bowdeni
Advantages: Multi Region, Good picture, slim, durable
Disadvantages: No Scart, not a recorder
...DVD was launched commercial over 10 years ago. The major manufacturers made the mistake of not licensing the technology appropriately and subsequently the cost of DVD players has fallen dramatically within the past 5 years. Some people may find it hard to justify the cost of a DVD player when they can picked up for £30, but I am going to write this review to communicate the advantages of having a medium range quality DVD player.
So firstly, why Toshiba? Toshiba have an excellant reputation for producing quality products for a great price. There are some manufacturers such as Sony, that in my opinion rely too much on their brand image to sell the good. Toshiba both provide an excellant product, more importantly quality and value. 'What hifi' have for many years ranked Toshiba as the best budget DVD player, and the Toshiba SD340E itself...

Toshiba Portege 3500 - Best of breed, but heavy
Review of Toshiba Portege 3500 - PIII-M 1.33 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
maxmidnight
Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc.
Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.
...pound range. The Toshiba includes valuable features such as a three-year warranty, USB 2.0, 60 GB/5,400 rpm hard drive and Compact Flash (CF Type II) and Secure Digital (SD) memory slots.
In summary if Toshiba could find a way to make the unit a few ounces lighter, it would be the perfect Tablet PC. Protective casing with straps/handles take away much of this weight issue....

Tosh 2109 - Superp player for the money
Review of Toshiba SD-2109 by
jonny30
Advantages: Cheap, Solid performance
Disadvantages: Chapter skip button is also for fast forward/rewind
...I purchased myself a Toshiba 2109 multi region following several problems with a Samsung 709 I had previously purchased. It was immediatly evident that the Toshiba was superior in every respect to the Samsung. Picture quality is on the same level as the sound quality - excellent. It has an extensive range of functions and is simple to operate. It has never refused to play a disc, I buy them from all over the world via the internet. The only gripe I would have with it is to fast forward or rewind, you have to hold down the chapter skip button. This makes it easy to skip chapters accidently. However, this is a small price to pay for the quality of player you get for the minimal investment. If you're after an entry level player, this is the one!...

easy way to start
Review of Toshiba SD-2109 by
westham
Advantages: low cost , easy to use
Disadvantages: not that i can see
...when i first decided to step up into the dvd world i wanted a relatively cheap but easy to use dvd player. that is what i've got with this player. it is also multi-region but unlike a lot of other players this one has a very useful automatic region changer. when i compared this one to that of my brothers(a pioneer) i thought the extra £100 he spent on his was not justified because his is just to hard to use. with the toshiba all you have to do is put the disc in and press play, as simple as that....

Toshiba SD330E
Review of Toshiba SD330E by
goofy123
Advantages: 'Toshiba Brand Name' Multi Region capability
Disadvantages: No On Board DTS/Dolby Digital Decoder
...I bought the Toshiba SD330E DVD player 3 Months ago.
My choice, was influenced at the time by the price (£49.99), and, having already owned the lower model Toshiba SD125E.
Advantages of the SD330E:
=
Plays DVD, VCD, Audio CD (inc mp3/ wma format) JPEG's (Photo cd's/dvd's) , as well as DVD-R discs of dvd video format, with no problems.
Multi Region Capable (provided you check where you are buying it from).
Component video outputs, coaxial audio & optical audio outputs. (For those wishing to connect to Home Cinema / Plasma's or LCD
televisions.
Superb Picture Quality, (even when connected with Scart Lead)
I have mine connected to my home cinema system, through the optical out connection, and, well, lets just say, this is how DVD should be observed!!
Disadvantages of the SD330E...

Supurb DVD performance
Review of Toshiba SD-100E by
GeoffreyHawkins
Advantages: Easy to use, quality feel to the build of the player, maximises enjoyment of DVDs.
Disadvantages: None
...I bought the Toshiba SD-100E last December. I have found that it has greatly improved my viewing enjoyment of films. The unit is easy to use. The on screen menus are clear and easy to understand and navigate, and the intrustions for set-up were equally as clear. As a first time user of DVD I had no problems getting started. The performance of the player is simply superb. The pictures are so clear and sharp. The sound is spectacular. I have had a home cinema system for some time, and never have films ever sounded this good. In fact after viewing films on this player I have been unable to bare watching films on VHS. Even normal television appears poor.
Overall, as an introduction to DVD you could not go wrong with this player....

Toshiba DVD player SD370
Review of Toshiba SD-370 by
pharmacy123
Advantages: Upscaling ability, picture quality is exceptional - 5 stars
Disadvantages: DVD tray wont like small children poking fingers in!
...What HiFi gave this player 5 star rating commenting that it believed Toshiba had shot itself in the foot by producing such a good player at such a cheap price, even comparing it £200 players.
On this basis alone, I bought one.
Firstly, it is exceptionally slimline, Victoria Beckham would love it. But that aside, do not be put off by the price tag, The finish of this player is good. If you have small children then perhaps the DVD tray is somewhat thin and frail and will not take kindly to heavy handed children or adults, for that matter. This aside, however, the optical result are exceptional. I have to keep smiling when I realise how little this player costs.
The ability to scale up DVD's to 1080i works very well with the colours becoming richer and the definition becoming much more pinsharp - all in a player that costs so little. I...

all-round PDA with a nice price tag
Review of Toshiba Pocket PC E400 by
fraserscott
Advantages: Excellent features for price
Disadvantages: Availability of accessories
...everything, the Toshiba e400 is not perfect. My biggest objection to it is the lack of accessories when compared to other PDA’s like HP and Palm. It also only takes SD (Secure Digital) cards whereas others take both SD and Compact Flash. Despite this however I have managed to find, buy and very happily use an aluminium case, two-in-one USB charger/data cable, a wireless SD card, a 256Mb SD memory card and a wireless (infrared) keyboard.
Despite lacking larger internal storage, Bluetooth capability and other features I think this is an excellent option if you are looking for an all-round PDA with a nice price tag....

Review of Toshiba SD330E DVD Player
Review of Toshiba SD-330E by
jomaco
Advantages: multi region feature, excellent audio and video quality
Disadvantages: manual supplied had no english section
...Within the last 2 years I have purchased two other DVD players in the Toshiba range, an SD210E and an SD110E. The range-topping SD330E was purchased for its multi-region capability which is essential if playing DVDs from abroad. A multi-standard (NTSC/PAL) TV is another essential component for a small home cinema system based upon the SD330E. I use a small, 13 inch, Sharp LCD TV which is stacked with a whole range of features including automatic NTSC/PAL switching.
Curiously the SD330E bears very little physical resemblance to its predecessors. It is the same width and depth of its cousins but only two-thirds the height. The most striking difference between the models is in the weight of the SD330E, which, thanks to switch-mode technology used in the design of the power supply, is very light and creates an immediate, first acquaintance...

Brilliant piece of kit!
Review of Toshiba SD-2109 by
placido
Advantages: better picture, sound quality
Disadvantages: won't play your video tapes!
...I finally gave in to a bit more technology when the video player started chewing up all our tapes! I bought a DVD magazine to see what was available and came up with this Toshiba machine, already hacked and delivered for less than £250. It really is good, all the movies play so much better and of course DVDs don't take up as much storage space as videos. We buy a lot of films from America or Canada, I don't think we have ever paid retail price here in England. If you need or are thinking of getting a DVD player you won't go far wrong with this one....
