i fix laptops and i dont often come across these
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8000 - PII 333 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
pcformat
Advantages: every one wants one
Disadvantages: slightly bulky
...The Tecra 8000 Is an exellent laptop. Of all the laptops I come across the tecra is One of the best I have seen.If you want some thing thin and sexy then this is not for you.The benefit of buying this machine are certainly good value for money .first there is the 14.1 tft screen. Then theres the prestigious name.Toshibas are very easy to fix if you come across problems .You can install the hdd yourself. you can install the memory yourself and if you format the hdd the chances are that you will find the drivers for the graphics card and sound card on the win 98 cd.every time I have come across this laptop I have seen pure exellence. Only two issues on the downside one is the price and the other is its slightly bulky....

Good solid laptop
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8000 - PII 333 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
vurt
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...I bought my Tecra 8000 to do computer consulting work on, so pretty much everything from using apps, games, development and web stuff.
The machine has a really good, large screen, thought it doesn't go to very high resolutions without resorting to a 'virtual desktop' type arrangement which doesn't really work. The battery life is absolutely excellent, often putting in at least 3.5 hours, even 3 with constant DVD access going on.
My machine came with a DVD drive and MPEG decoder which works excellently under win98 but attrociously under win2000 which appears to ignore the codec.
Hard disk is large at 12gb and seems to have good access speeds.
Sound system is reasonable, the speakers are a bit wimpy compared to a Thinkpad's and the onw board synth doesn't get recognised by a lot of music creation software.
Graphically...

A Great Complete Notebook
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8000 - PII 333 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
davidtovar
Advantages: Value for money, Light
Disadvantages: Old Model
...I chose this item as a second hand notebook as I saw the prices new machiness were fetching. However I was not in the slightest bit dissappointed. It has a great bright 14.1" screen and i9s pretty light. The 128MB RAM and 6GB hard disk are ample, thus allowing the PII366 to run at full speed. Second hand it can be picked up for under £800. Well worth it! If you want a totally reliable seecond hand machine, with a good back up support team, then this a the PC to chose. I use it for everything, and am yet to have any problems....

My Toshiba Tecra M2 - Warming up to Progress
Review of Toshiba Tecra M2 - Pentium M 745 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
BawBaw
Advantages: Light, versatile, packed with features
Disadvantages: It's still a laptop
...Let me make it perfectly clear right up front: I'm not overfond of laptops. They're relatively small, usually have rather fuzzy screens, come with small keyboards that make typing difficult, and have strange built-in mice that are nigh onto impossible to manipulate. Given my durthers, I'll take a full-sized PC any day.
Despite all these disclaimers, my purpose here to review the Toshiba Tecra M2 notebook, kindly purchased for me by my company to make me more efficient and productive. Now don't get me wrong. I appreciate the sentiments and the logic of the new laptop, even though I use it far less often than my more powerful, less portable desktop. But I have to admit, my Tecra M2 isn't as bad as I feared.
Talk about damning with faint praise! Perhaps I can improve a bit on that. There's one thing my Toshiba does remarkable...

Why Buy a Tecra?
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8100 - PIII 600 MHz - 14.1" TFT by
cdawkins
Advantages: Fast, Great Graphics Chip, Light (2.6kg)
Disadvantages: Expensive, Sensitive to registry changes
...Why did I buy the Tecra 8100?
First of all what I wanted was a desktop replacement machine, one on which I could do all my spreadsheet and word stuff as well as play games. I am an engineer so I need good connectivity options as well.
The choice was:-
Dell Inspiron 3800, 5000, 7500
Toshiba Tecra 8100
HP Omnibook 6000
The Dells are very good machines, I used to old an old 7000 series. The 3800 is light and quite quick, the 5000 has all the multimedia features you need, the 7500 has even more. But... The 3800 is not meant to be used as a desktop replacement, it doesn't have the oomph for that. The 5000 and 7000 are great machines but heavy.
The HP Omnibook is the machine I would probably buy by choice except that it is very expensive and uses the ATI graphics card
The Tecra is not as expensive as the Omnibook and uses...

A powerful laptop for a businessman
Review of Toshiba Tecra M1 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
adicos
Advantages: Very fast and reliable and a very long lasting battery
Disadvantages: Changing/upgrading the memory
...Hi there,
I’m coming back to a positive opinion, this time about a top specs laptop from Toshiba, a Toshiba Tecra with a Intel® Centrino™ Mobile 1.7GHz Processor
First of all, I’ll tell you the feeling I had about the laptop and my personal experience with it, then I'll put all the specs for the laptop, so any technical people (like me) can see what's all about this beauty
My first impression when I’ve seen it was was not particularly “WOW”. It looks very nice, with a silver lid, but everything else, when you open the lid is black, apart from the TouchPad, which is also silver and some other bits, which are silver I don’t particularly like this color schema (silver/black), but it wasn’t bad in the end (I don’t want to be picky).
The laptop is very fast (and I really mean it), the booting up for XP was slightly better than my...

Absolute Bargain Buy!
Review of Toshiba Satellite 4100XCDT - PII 400 MHz - 14.1" TFT by
Cheesefather
Advantages: Cheap, reliable, durable, fast enough, large display
Disadvantages: Fairly heavy (in comparison to more modern laptops)
...I picked up a Toshiba 4100XCDT from Insight for £1000 (+VAT), and am very happy with the result - I wanted a cheap, durable, reliable laptop with in-built modem and CR-ROM. The main specs of the machine are as follows: Pentium II 400, 64 MB RAM, 6 GB Hard Disk Drive, 14.1" screen, 24X CD-ROM, V.90/56K Modem, Windows NT (SP4). These are more than enough for most uses of a laptop, even giving presentations (2.5 MB On-board graphics memory, and the CPU has 32K and 128K (L2) caches). The only downside is the weight, which is just under 3.2 Kilograms, but then, these notebooks haven't been manufactured for a while (2 years I think), so you can't expect them to be up to date. I upgraded mine to Windows 2000 immediately (which meant that the funky Toshiba tools and power management suites wouldn't work anymore, but you can download new ones off...

Toshiba's top of the line notebook
Review of Toshiba Tecra S1 - Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 15" TFT by
jcakoh
Advantages: Sleek design, very powerful, reliable, large screen and typical premium quality as expected from Toshiba
Disadvantages: Heavy and a little large. this is a very protable lap top but you can't exactly throw it around due to it's weight and slightly larger then normal size
...Toshiba is probably the most credible and reputable maker of notebook computers. The Tecra S1 is one of Toshiba's top of the line notebooks.
The notebook is very stylishly designed, better looking than Sony's notebooks in my opinion. The only bad points about the design is that the surface is easer to scratch then the softer surfaces of notebooks made by Dell or Acer, but this isn't a big worry.
The speakers, keyboard, pointing devices (2 of them), and power button are well located and the indicator lights on the front are extremely useful for determining what mode the lap top is in (ie. wirelesss mode, whether the battery is charging, whether the AC power is connected) after you've worked out what each light is for.
The notebook's biggest strength is it's power. It is a large hard drive (60GB), high amount of RAM (512MB...

Portege 3110CT - Lovely Little Mover
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
martinpw
Advantages: Very small, and light
Disadvantages: Not really
...A PII-300 smaller than an A4 sheet of paper, just over 2cm thick, and weighing as much as a bag of sugar! If it was ugly as sin you'd forgive it - but it looks darn fine too!
The 300 Mhz processor is plenty powerful enough to crunch everday tasks - and it's just as capable running Word, Dreamweaver or web surfing. The 6GB hard disk, and 64Mb memory complement appropriately.
The 10.4" TFT screen is plenty big enough for most work at 800x600, and clear and bright. The keyboard doesn't hinder my reasonable typing speed either. The 'nipple' mouse pointer is plenty responsive, and despite not having used such a pointer before I was soon comfortable.
Battery life is well above average, giving 2 to 3 hours depending on levels of disk access / modem use. Toshiba's proprietory power saving software squeezes battery life to your own...
