...DVD was launched commercial over 10 years ago. The major manufacturers made the mistake of not licensing the technology appropriately and subsequently the cost of DVD players has fallen dramatically within the past 5 years. Some people may find it hard to justify the cost of a DVD player when they can picked up for £30, but I am going to write this review to communicate the advantages of having a medium range quality DVD player. So firstly, why Toshiba? Toshiba have an excellant reputation for producing quality products for a great price. There are some manufacturers such as Sony, that in my opinion rely too much on their brand image to sell the good. Toshiba both provide an excellant product, more importantly quality and value. .... The R200 arrived in its original Toshiba packing. Opening the box up you find that Toshiba send you what you need and not 100 CD's of trial software and AOL internet. Inside the packaging you get the laptop, Recovery CD, Power Supply and a manual. The actual laptop is shrink wrapped to a sturdy piece of cardboard and is secured well enough to keep it safe. QUALITY Now my next surprise was touching the laptop for the first time. I honestly couldn't believe how light the unit was. If you turned the cardboard back over so that you couldn't see the laptop you would all most think that the laptop wasn't there. The R200 weighs in at a light 1.29Kg. Nothing. Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc.
Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.

My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, and the Toshiba Portégé 3500. What follows is a brief discussion of the Toshiba Portege 3500 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative. Of all the tablet PC's currently on the market the Toshiba Portégé 3500 has the best performance of all the systems because it uses the Intel Pentium III-M 1.33 GHz processor and a fast hard drive. ...'t bother with the surround sound, and get the TV to play the normal stereo sound through all it's speakers. This puts you right in the middle of the noise, and with the 100+ watt bass speaker coming out the back, it makes all the rumblings good enough to shake the food off your plate! What impressed me the most is not the sheer oomph this thing has, but the quality of it. One of the main problems you have with big screen TV's is a reduction in picture quality. Seeing as all TV's have 512 lines (or however many it is) the bigger the TV, the more spaced out the lines, so the more blurry or fuzzy the picture tends to look. The Toshiba just laughs at all this, it has a lot of neat things that let you sit nice and close to the screen without being put off by the lack of quality. ...I owned a Toshiba Tecra some years ago when they first came out. It was small, heavy and slow with many annoying features. I only used it for a few months then, in frustration, traded it in for a Samsung, which I cherished thereafter. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end... After 3 years of use and many overseas visits, my Samsung finally packed in. So the hunt was on for a viable replacement. I'm one of those people who cram as many programs as possible onto their computers together with a huge amount of data, so the specs of the replacement machine were very important. Of course I immediately thought of Samsung, but was really depressed to find that the specs hadn't changed much over the years - it seemed I'd just hit it lucky before.
