Pease Pottage services - M23
Review of Moto Motorway Service Stations by  Den101

Advantages: Simple layout, easy-to-find, good facilities
Disadvantages: Expensive food

...Pease Pottage services is just off Junction 11 of the M23, 7 miles south of London Gatwick Airport. Coming off the motorway southbound, just take the first exit off the roundabout. Northbound, its the thirs exit. It's instantly noticeable as you drive off the slip road and unlike many service station carparks, the layout is simple. One way for car parking, one way for lorries and another way for fuel. The fuelling station is a Shell garage, and while the petrol is more expensive than town and supermarket petrol stations, its still a bit cheaper than other local motorway services such as Clacket Lane on the M25. Inside the service area is a Burger King, a cafeteria, a convenience store and toilet facilities. There's a small arcade area with fruit machines and arcade games, and there's also a cashpoint (although it is one of those... Read review

A refuge from the M1..Woolley Edge services
Review of Moto Motorway Service Stations by  ginger59

Advantages: you know what to expect, somewhere to stop if you are tired
Disadvantages: expensive food

...We stopped here becasue we'd been stuck in traffic after a motorway accident on the intersection of M62 and M1, and we needed to take a break becasue we were frazzled- forgot I had air conditioning! I knew that there was a service station between junctions 39 and 38 southbound on the M1 so we headed there. Easy to follow signs to the car park- with words and symbols so you'd understand even if you didn't speak English. FACILITIES Shop- newspapers, sweets, books, music, drinks, sandwiches, greetings cards and gifts..they were selling the Harry Potter latest book on Saturday but I wouldn't pay £16.99 for it! Some people were, though. Food can be a bit expensive and so can the sweets but if you have to buy them, it serves you right for not planning in advance!!! T2 phone shop- selling mobile phones and accessories. Good value... Read review

M1 Toddington Moto services - Southbound
Review of Moto Motorway Service Stations by  dawn_ash

Advantages: Great facilities for babies and kids
Disadvantages: High prices

...Had the pleasure of stopping at the Toddington services on the Southbound M1 on 18th May, 2004. It was about 1pm and the car park was around half full so no problems parking. Nice touch at the entrance to the building was the Pet Station with bowls of water and dog biscuits for the canine guests. Only guide dogs are allowed into the building but there was a small grassed area at the side where dogs could stretch their legs and do what dogs do best. Firstly and definitely most important - toilets. Can't speak for the gents but the ladies were spotless. I'd even be happy to take my granny in there. A lady was busy scrubbing the sinks while I was in there. Clean toilets, nice hot water, full soap dispensers and hand driers that worked. Thumbs up so far. Usual concessions in the building: a small Thorntons, a Birthday card shop... Read review

Moto Services, Thurrock M25
Review of Moto Motorway Service Stations by  alleycat01

Advantages: No other alternative!
Disadvantages: Just all round nasty

...- surely apples go brown if left when you slice them? Anyway, the only other option in these services to this extortionate place is Burger King - and let's just say I'm not a fan. There's also a fairly standard shop in the services, selling newspapers, magazines, sweets etc. That was OK - nothing worthy of comment really. There are also toilets and baby changing facilities, but we made the mistake of using these the ones at the petrol forecourt - more of which later. Next stop was the services' petrol station - again very expensive, but with the added attraction of the rudest staff I've ever encountered! When I asked for a receipt, I was glared at as though I was completely mad and had to repeat myself before I was given said receipt, accompanied by a sigh of derision. The worst bit of all though was the forecourt toilets - disgusting... Read review

Ciao Power vs Orange Lack of Customer Services
Review of Buyer Beware! (urgent warnings about products/services to avoid at all costs) by  flickpugh

Advantages: good if you like being angry
Disadvantages: high blood pressure, high stress levels and bad moods!

...’s over five and a half years. My current mobile number is .... and I am (or was) on Talk 200. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I was a satisfied customer until the last year or so too. Recently I have noticed a sharp decline in the standards of your customer service with certain call centre operators being far from polite and professional. Apologies for the lengthiness of this letter, but I have actually cut it back substantially and besides you don't seem to mind wasting my time. I could in fact fill an entire book on the subject of Orange Lack of Customer Services. I should have known last May. I was already fed up with your total lack of customer awareness. I wanted to get out but was desperate for a new phone, but the rude and unhelpful lady at Orange said they couldn’t find out my pac number... Read review

Thoughts about the main station of my hometown
Review of Main station of Innsbruck by  Ultima9999

Advantages: Big space
Disadvantages: crime rate increased

....innsbruck.at is the official web site of our provincial capital. You can learn important things about Innsbruck as well as about old and new projects. www.ivb.at is the official web site of the public transport services stock corporation that are responsible for the near public transportations. 2) The station in the change of time: -------------------------------------------------- The thought of a complete new construction of the station hall and the Südtiroler Square suddenly occured in 1999. Said, done. After appr. 2 year construction time, dirt and noise the citizen of Innsbruck received a new station. The "fun" devoured about 28 Mio. Euro. I just can dream about that much money. The frescos by Max Weiler were changed into huge wallscrolls. They are the last remains of the old station. 2.a) Sub Level: --------------------- The new station... Read review

Fill up my tank and get me a burrito
Review of Motorway Service Stations in general by  Scott_Howitt

Advantages: There is lots of food within
Disadvantages: Do you really need a stuffed armadillo?

...Seems like you need a little hill country, A little backroads driving, little bit of the old top down, Yeah, everybody gotta get away sometime, Forget about yourself for awhile, Seems to me that all you need is a ragtop car and a ride with me - Carry On by Pat Green It is widely known through out the world that Americans and their cars have a special relationship; however in Texas it should be considered a torrid affair. For many people it is their workhorse and their playtime companion. After you have passed your first “Last Chance for Gas in 150 Miles” sign, you can also realize that it is your life line. An important part of the Texas driving experience is the service station. When I was a child, a service station was just that. We would pull up to the pumps and the man would offer to “fill ‘er up”. Since my dad... Read review

A LA FRANCAISE
Review of French Motorway Service Stations by  thingywhatsit

Advantages: Places to unwind.
Disadvantages: None.

...I have travelled the length and breadth of the U.K. and also here in France where I live. I noticed that there was a place to write about British Motorway Service stations, and asked Ciao to add this as I thought it would be useful to people thinking of travelling in France. From Nantes downwards and acrosswards in France, we have motorways which are toll roads that take you for miles without having to go through towns. This is the quickest way to travel long distances, and I was a little apprehensive the first time that I travelled alone. I thought that they were going to be really busy roads and also that they would be exceptionally fast and dangerous, but my experience surprised me. What surprised me the most is how well the French Motorway Services cater for the driver. They are geared to family travelling, and the Motorway... Read review

A Power Station inside a Hill - Yes, really!
Review of Cruachan Power Station Visitor Centre (Scotland) by  MikeLB

Advantages: Free if you arrive by Public Transport, James Bond style visit
Disadvantages: Short Tour, Visitor Centre rather cramped

...explains the art on the walls and the technical aspects of the turbines. Then you load back up onto the bus, and drive out of the mountain (thinking that you are rentering a post - apocolyptic world!) and are taken back to the centre to collect your belongings. There is adequate car parking at the centre, and it can aso be accessed by regular bus services from Oban. There is also a train station at Falls of Cruachan, however it is a request stop and only open during the summer. The station is on the Glasgow - Oban line. If you arrive by public transport and book in advance, the tour is free as part of a green tourisim initiative. And another small fact, the main road from the centre looks like is is basically floating on Loch Awe. When it was built they actually built it on metal cantilevers which were pushed into the side...
