Panashocker WeakBook
Review of Panasonic Toughbook 71 - PIII 600 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
jholden
Advantages: Looks
Disadvantages: Not tough, poor battery life
...This laptop is not a ToughBook but a Weak Book. The battery only lasts around 45 minutes and the screen keeps failing and flickering.
I wanted a laptop that I could rely on as I work in rural environments near rivers and muddy fields (well someone has to !). The Panasonic toughbook was meant to be the answer with its ruggedised casing and splashproof keyboard. Well, in my experience the slightest hint of moisture in the air and the whole thing packs up. The screen goes dark and the computer will keep shutting itself off.
I will admit that when it works the laptop is nice to use, with pentium4, a smooth mouse pad and nifty black handle that pulls out from the front end of the laptop.
However, the battery just doesn't last very long. In this day and age there are laptops with a 10 hour battery life but this one rarely gives you enough...

Latitude D600 - The tough laptop
Review of Dell Latitude D600 - Pentium M 1.3 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
Malone13
Advantages: Very robust, large screen & a solid performer!
Disadvantages: Fairly large and can get quite hot.
...I bought this laptop almost a year ago and have not had a problem with it to date. The design of the laptop is aimed at robustness and portability... all the hardware has been installed with the 'travelling salesman' at mind. I purchased this item as necessary equipment for my university course instead of buying a university recommended IBM ThinkPad. After much research I found that the IBMs tended to be a lot less reliable and the dell had good reviews all round - I have no been disappointed! The D600 does everything my home PC can do and more, with a lot less problems.
The laptop/notebook is not the cheapest out there but the value for money and quality of the product is excellent!
The only drawbacks I have found is that the hard-drive does get hot and you can feel this when you are typing; the heat is not uncomfortable however...

The NC6000 - The Traveller's Choice
Review of HP Compaq Business Notebook nc6000 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: *GREAT* Battery life, speakers, graphics and Screen!
Disadvantages: Poor touchpad, unit is a little chunky to carry around for a long time
...of 6 hours and 38 minutes under medium-load.
Featues such as Wireless connectivity and a Bluetooth adaptor built-in also sweeten the deal with the NC6000.
The look of the laptop is very business-like. Smart silver coatings and inserts line the laptop, and a tough magnesium-alloy lid on the screen stops any small knocks or bangs damaging the display (As I have seen on so many Dell laptops).
The speakers on this notebook also come through to me as very good. I mainly enjoy listening to Rock music, so only the best laptop speakers stand out for me (Rock is very demanding on an audio system).
Other reviews have cited their love of the NC6000's speakers, and I will continue this trend. I honestly do like listening to music on the NC6000 - it has a lovely warm tone but fairly deep bass to boot.
This laptop is currently at around £400 on e...

Laptop....... maded just for kids.
Review of VTech Learning Laptop by
star333
Advantages: Teaches maths, the alphabet. Light, easy to carry around, and cheap.
Disadvantages: None.
...With my little girls birthday being on christmas day, she always just gets money in most of her cards, so she can get whatever she wants.
Just before Hollie-Rose started full time school, we went into town and she wanted a Laptop, I thought that it might help her with the alphabet and her numbers, so we got it.
A big plus was that it was a Vtech toy.
WHY V-TECH
++++++++++
As many of your know by my other reviews, I buy alot of Vtech toys this is because I think that Vtech toys are great, they are designed for children to learn as they play. Their toys are always brightly coloured, very tough and are very safe to play with.
VTech was founded in 1976 in Hong Kong and the company products are aimed at children all ages,as years go buy, their toy's just get better and better.
DESCRIPTION
++++++++++++
This Vtech laptop is a specilly...

The Toughbook that really is tough.
Review of Panasonic Toughbook 72 - P4-M 1.6 GHz - 13.3" TFT by
richard_millar
Advantages: Hard wearing, good quality, valur for money
Disadvantages: Chunky and heavy
...This panasonic toughbook really is a tough, hard wearing laptop. You can drop it and it will still work. A work collegue actually drove his car over this laptop and it still worked exactly the same. It is a laptop that certainly lives upto its name. This baby puts the TOUGH in Toughbook.
Do not be put off by the extra weight, chunky and basic look of this laptop. Remember looks can be deceiving.
The keyboard is one of the best I have used on a laptop. The mousepad is not as nice but hey this is a toughbook. Hit the pad hard and it works like a dream.
You have all thefunctionality and speed of aPentium 4 1.8ghz processor backed up by 256mb of ram. So not only do you get a hard wearing laptop butit is quick too.
The hard drives in these I have found are a bit suspect. In some of the machines they work fine for ages. In others...

TOUGH......Yes it is
Review of Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 by
cadetspy
Advantages: Very tough and durable, fast, looks good, touch screen
Disadvantages: expensive, small screen keyboard and mouse area, no inbuilt CD/DVD
...Panasonic Toughbook .. as the name suggests it is tough really. I bought mine second hand and I can say I am happy with this transaction. In simple words Panasonic Toughbook is a laptop computer which I must say is made for extreme conditions.
As everyone knows speed of computers really depends on their specifications my toughbook cf-18 has
1.1Ghz processor and it is Intel centrino dual core which is one of the latest technology
It has 1.5GB DDR2 RAM
80GB harddisk which is big enough for laptops and average nongaming user
Bluetooth,WIFI,GSM/UMTS
Battery life is good on average it gives you 8 - 9 hours
With these specs it is a fast computer but not very fast
Looks of this laptop is just great. It gives the impression of a hard and solid laptop(which it is) it is built neatly professionaly and looks beautiful. The screen however...

So your looking for a reliable laptop then
Review of ThinkPad 600 X - PIII 500 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
GR-Design
Advantages: Sturdy, made by IBM
Disadvantages: Doesnt look all that good next to the likes of Sony
...In November last year, I bought an IBM ThinkPad 600 Laptop computer. It is second hand, but only just over a year old. It cost £500 incl VAT and this is what I got for my money?
PII 300 Processor
64 MB Ram
5 Gig HDD
24x CD-Rom
13.3? screen
56K modem
I needed a laptop for work, so was looking for something that isn't afraid of getting carted around. Now, I know that's the general idea of laptops, but these days they seem to be built to look good and not to be durable when carrying them around. That's fine if you leave your laptop on your desk all the time, but this needs to be carried around a lot, and in any case, I've got the desktop PC which sits on my desk!
First of all, fashion conscious people will not like the IBM series of laptops. They are built to be durable and tough, not in the slightest to look good. In fact my...

Good engineering with tough and elegant design
Review of ASUS M6763V-LP - Pentium M 750 1.86 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
shuttlex
Advantages: a great example of engineering with tough and elegant design
Disadvantages: hdd a bit slow, no built in bluetooth
...A few months ago I was looking for a replacement laptop. In my previous laptop review I discussed my dissatisfaction with the Dell Inspiron 510m. Now obviously the 2 laptops are in a completely different price range with different features targeting different users. However, from this past experience I realized that it wasn't worth trying to save £100-£200 and ending up with a substandard laptop. Remember, laptops are the kind of thing you carry around and therefore more likely to suffer from misuse such as hinges becoming loose, keys falling out, hdds crashing...
This time round I had decided to go for a laptop with a good build quality. Apple ibooks and powerbooks look great but they are macs and therefore wouldn't have the tools suitable for me. I was thinking of perhaps going for a budget IBM ThinkPad as it is known for IBM...

Review of Dixons Coverplan by

Advantages: Cover for repair work

All in all, when the notebook broke down again a week later, I wasn't too impressed......

Cheap Desktop Replacement
Review of Acer Aspire 5672WLMi - Core Duo T2300 1.66 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
sifair
Advantages: Less Than £600, lots of features, good specs, reliable
Disadvantages: Soft screen, hot touchpad
...--------------
I find the Acer Aspire 5672 is not the best portable laptop. This is because it has a fairly big 15.4” screen and it does get quite hot. If you were going for a portable laptop though you wouldn't really go for this laptop but you can take it out with you if you want. Another factor that will stop you taking it on long business trips is the battery life. The battery life on this machine is only about 3 hours at the very most. I only tend to get about 2 hours out of it so I wouldn't use it on long trips. The laptop weighs 3kg which is fairly heavy so you wouldn't want to be lugging it round all day.
Toughness
-------------
The machine isn't very tough and I found this out straight away when looking in the instruction manual as it said, 'don't place anything on top of the laptop'. I immediately pressed my hand on top of it and realised...
