The Tower of London
Advantages: Full of History, great tours, Crown Jewels
Disadvantages: None
...This past weekend we had an American colleague of ours come to London for the first time so my husband and I (we work at the same company) decided to take her around sightseeing and show her some of London. As we work quite near the Tower of London and both hadn't been here since we were kids we decided to make it our first port of call.
The Tower of London is situated right on the River Thames in the borough district of Tower Hamlets with the closest tube station being Tower Hill on the Circle and District Line. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 originally intended as a Royal Palace. It was then used as a prison with a great number of very famous prisoners, mostly kings and queens of England and the various wives of Henry the 8th. This is where the phrase "sent to the tower" comes from in terms of being sent to prison...

Be careful with the crown Jewels at the Tower Of London
Advantages: Lots to see, entertaining staff
Disadvantages: Busy
...As we live in London there is luckilly quite a lot for us to do. We decided we would go and see one of the tourist attractions even though we knew it being a bank holiday, wherever we went would be packed. We decided after a bit of thought that we would try the Tower Of London this time as I haven't been there for years and boyfriend never had visited.
To get to the Tower Of London is fairly easy. We travelled on the tube, which is on the circle and district lines. The tube station is just across the road from the main attraction so it was easy to spot and there are signs also in the tube station to tell you the right exit. It would also be easy to get to by bus. I would not recommend that anyone would try and drive there as you would certainly have a problem trying to park.
The ticket offices are fairly obvious once you get...

The Tower of London
Advantages: Very historic, and plenty to see and learn
Disadvantages: Lots of walking!!
...can go round at your own pace.
Where
~~~~~
The Tower of London is in Tower Hill, London, EC3. The nearest tube station is Tower Hill, and the nearest British Rail stations are Fenchurch Street and London Bridge Station.
Ghosts
~~~~~~
The Tower of London is one of the most famous buildings in the world. Anne Boleyn, one of Henry VIII wives, was beheaded on Tower Green in 1536. Her ghost has been seen regularly on the green and in the Chapel Royal in the White Tower.
The Ravens
~~~~~~~~~~
Legend has it that if the ravens should ever leave the Tower of London, the White Tower will crumble, and a great disaster will happen in Enland. There is also a raven master. His job is to look after and care for the ravens. His job is mainly at night where he puts them in their nesting sheds at the tower.
LONDON BRIDGE IS FALLING DOWN
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...step ahead of Cross and the FBI there was a feeling of inevitability that he would not be captured and stopped in time. Maybe, just maybe though, the Wolfs penchant for blowing up famous bridges might just prove to be his undoing.
?People ought to feel comfortable going about their lives, knowing that their government is doing everything humanly possible to disrupt any potential activity that the evil ones may try to inflict upon us.?
London Bridges marks the seventh outing for Alex Cross and our hero has still got what it takes to keep the reader turning the pages in eager anticipation. The beauty of this book is that it can be picked up and enjoyed either by a die hard fan of James Patterson?s Alex Cross series or a complete newcomer to the collection, there is just the right level of information at the beginning of the book to...
Tower Bridge travel inn
Advantages: a reasonable quality hotel.
Disadvantages: a bit of a walk from the nearest tube.
...Due to hectic summer i decided to treat myself to a short break to London. Having heard and read so many horror stories about low priced accommodation in London. also as i was travelling alone and didn't want to get walloped with suppliments, I decided to book the premier Travel inn at Tower bridge. Which came in at £82.95 per room per night room only.
Location
The hotel is located down Towerbridge road, 200m from tower bridge on the south side of the river. Nearest tubes are Tower Hill (500m) which involves a pleasent walk over Tower bridge then just follow the road under the railway bridge and the hotels just past the first set of lights after the bridge. London Bridge come out of the Station turn right, past the dungeon then just follow the road until you come to Tower bridge Road turn right and then as Tower bridge. as...
Tower Of London
Advantages: Interesting
Disadvantages: Expensive and long queues
...The Tower of London is a fascinating, educational place to go. It has played an important part in British history, from a group of rebels besieging it during the Peasants revolt to the arrest of Sir Walter Raleigh. It's a traditional British tourist resort with family activities and events.
I really enjoyed it, it told every story of every event in the history of Britain. Plus when I went they had a Punch and Judy show on which really entertained the children and some adults. The Tower of London also has got a surprisingly interesting history with the animals its kept, e.g. They used to keep the first elephant in Britain, lions, leopards, and many more including flightless ravens which are still there to this day.
~Things to see~
* The Crown Jewels
The jewel house is located in the Waterloo Barracks in the Inner Ward. Once...
London Bridges
Advantages: Quick and easy read
Disadvantages: Disappointing and abrupt end
...’s home. To prevent the bombings and murders Alex and the FBI must pay an improbable amount somewhat over a billion dollars and release a number of political prisoners, if that wasn’t bad enough to prove that he is serious, the Wolf engineers the annihilation of a small desert town, evacuating first to prevent casualties. When this doesn’t get the point across, he blows up the Queensboro Bridge in New York and a bridge in Paris.
Like any Cross novel the story follows the case and Alex as he chases numerous leads to a dead end, with numerous partners from the United States and various other countries, he desperately works to find the Wolf before their deadline expires and thousand of people die.
With the incredibly short chapters (very few are over two pages) and simplistic writing, the book is a quick and easy read, like any Patterson novel...
Inside Tower Bridge
Advantages: Great views. See how the bridge works.
Disadvantages: Can be crowded at times
...Don't just look at Tower Bridge - go inside it. The Tower Bridge visit is one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done in London and suitable for the whole family. The exhibition explains why and how the bridge was built and you get to see how it works. An added bonus is that you get to use the walkway between the two towers which was originally bult for pedestrians but was hardly used. The tour takes you up one of the towers and down the other, and is "introduced" by talking models in a brilliant display. At the end of the tour, you can visit a display which eplains the scientific principles behind the operation of the bridge - kids get to play with a variety of hands-on stuff. The view from the top of the bridge is fantastic - take a camera for the best shots you'll ever get of the Tower of London, HMS Belfast, the Thames...
Ominous brown stains aren't the best way to start your hotel stay
Advantages: Central location. New modern design. Reasonable price on promo rate.
Disadvantages: Dirty towels, slow check in, distance to car park.
...Now as a rule I never stay south of the river when I visit London, however due to a Hilton 50% off promotion I made an exception so booked a stay at Hilton Tower Bridge. I booked my stay through the Hilton website and secured an Executive room with access to the Executive lounge that also included breakfast.
Arrival
The hotel does not have the benefit of an on-site parking, however it recommends the Q Park, which was apparently close by. The sat nav got me there easily, however it soon became apparent that the car park was actually quite a walk from the hotel. It took about fifteen minutes to walk and with your luggage in tow this was no mean feat! The only saving grace was that the parking was £10 per night compared to around £30-40 in west London. After our walk we eventually arrived at the hotel.
Check In
London Bridge Is Standing Strong In America
Advantages: Beautiful area, lovely to stroll around
Disadvantages: None
...the banks and in the water. Fishing is available with a permit and as you sit at the top of the lake you can watch speedboats in the distance, nearer the City. It is a remarkable view.
***The History***
We've all heard the song, London Bridge is falling down and how it is built up with different things. Well Lake Havasu City is now home to this famous London Bridge. Robert P. McCulloch bought this bridge at auction in the 1960's for nearly 2.5 million dollars and then had it dismantled, each brick marked, and then rebuilt over the lake at Lake Havasu, creating an island on the other side that is called Pittsbugh Point. It is thought that this cost him a further 6 million dollars to do and he was a bit disappointed when it was done because, as the story goes, he thought he was actually buying Tower Bridge.
Of course none of this side...
