...Toyo are a Japanese Tyre manufacturer that not many people have heard of. Yet to me they are the most sexy looking tyre around, if tyres can be sexy! I mean the tread pattern of course! I had toyos all around on my RS Turbo. The grip level was unreal and the depth of tread great. The tyres on my Tub were standard size 195/50/15's and a tyre that low in profile normally loses a lot of its tread in order to cater for the profile. Not the Toyo. It has a very wide tread pattern. Making a lot of contact with the road while giving it enough play to movce around and keep you stuck down. In the wet, the wide tread allowed the car to tip toe through the water rather than slip and slide through it. They dont just cater for quick cars. You can pick up a nice tyre for your family saloon or hatchback too. The range seems to grow...

Toyo Proxes T1-R - You get what you pay for :)

Advantages: V shaped tread means excellent road handling in the wet. Good grip, well made tyres
Disadvantages: pricey

...I recently got some new wheels. Some very expensive wheels as it goes. Probably spent far too much money on them, but they are lovely. I?ve always lived by the philosophy that if you are going to do something, you should always do it right. In this case there is no point in putting cheap rubbish tyres on a good set of wheels. It ruins the look but the handling too. Review of Toyo Tyres

Toyo 350 for small cars

Advantages: Reasonable price, great grip
Disadvantages: None

...I own a Toyota Yaris and needed new front tyres. Not knowing a huge amount about car tyres apart from they're the only thing holding the car on to the road i want to get something decent. My local idependant tyre fitters reccomended me Toyo 350. They were roughly the same price as the rest of the branded tyres and decied to give them a go. I tend to drive a lot on small country roads frequently covered in puddles, mud, leaves ect. The level of grip they offer is very good, i have noticed a positive difference in the levels of grip when breaking and cornering when the conditions are not great. This is in comparison to the Dunlop tyres i had previously. The road noise seems low and dispite the extra grip they seem to offer there has been no reduction in my fuel economy. After 5000 miles they seem to be in good condition with plenty...

Performance or endurance tyres

Advantages: Hard wearing and good value
Disadvantages: Not very good in wet.

...I come from a racing background, with owning and racing many performance cars such as Supra, Skyline, Gto etc, I can say from my point of view toyo tyres are good for your money, but only in the dry. Wet weather driving with these tyres was like being on ice most of the time, because they are hard wearing I found them to be slippy and not much feed back from them during wet conditions. In the dry though they are great tyres got good heat into them and they did hold again feed back was not the best, but as in most cases you pay your money. These tyres are good for the price you pay and for everyday road use again are ok. But if you happen to be a bit of a fast road user and go out when wet please be careful with these tyres. Now I know 99% of the people who read this will most likely not race there car or try and take a corner at high...

grippier than a grippy thing with good grip

Advantages: grippy and wear well
Disadvantages: not too many stockists

...I just bought some secondhand alloy wheels for my Volvo 850 so I thought I would buy a new set of tyres for these and keep the old tyres on the steel wheels for winter. Previously I have had Pirelli P6000, and then Continental Ecocontacts (which showed a loss of grip pulling away hard from some junctions where the road surface is worn). The Ecocontacts also wore away surprisingly quickly. I replaced the Ecocontacts with Toyo Roadpro R610s as I had heard a few whispers that Toyo were quite good. These were as grippy as the other tyres and wore surprisingly well, the roadholding being quite good too. I therefore went to my local stockist (found from a postcode search at Toyos UK website) and asked for the prices of the R610s in the size 195-60-15. Unfortunately they only had three tyres in, but they did have four Toyo Proxes T1s 205...

Confidence inspiring

Advantages: Grip, Price
Disadvantages: Durability

...I came across Toyo tyres, little known at the moment in this country and rediculed by some. Why rediculed? Because they were different and were not a named brand, thats why. The Toyo is a softer compound tyre (meaning it wears more readily) however they are alot cheaper than the majority of named brands. My Tuscan requires 255/40/18s so not the cheapest to buy for, however the cheapest I could get were just under £100 each. Trust me that is a very good price for two tyres of that size. Once they were on the car the handling was transformed. Off the lights the grip was brilliant and I experienced what it was like to get to 60 mph very very very quickly. Corners!!!! Another thing I now love. Approach them with reasonable speed trust in the tyres and by gently accelerating at the exit you can slide the back end out nicely...

Review of Toyo Tyres

Yokohama Parada Spec 2 215/40/17

Advantages: Grippy in the dry and not as fast wearing as others
Disadvantages: Not the safest in the wet, stick with Toyo, Michelin or Eagle F1s

...I have these tyres on my 17" track wheels and have found myself with quite a mixed view of them. In the dry they are fantastic, they have excellent grip, and the compound is not too soft, thus ensuring a good wear rate for daily driving However in the wet they are absolutely shocking. The tyres I have fitted are 215 40 17 so aren't lacking in contact area. I drive a Ford Focus which is lowered on coilovers to the tune of -50mm. Even with the drop in ride height they severely struggle for grip in the wet, anything more than a gentle bend at more than 40mph and you are in trouble with these tyres In conclusion, great dry tyres that don't wear perhaps as quick as the Toyo Proxes T1R, but you are sacrificing a lot of wet weather grip in my experience...

Ford Focus 2.0 ESP

...Premacy tyres which were on the car when I bought it lasted over 20,000 miles before they were replaced with Toyo Proxes. The starter motor also fires back occasionally, but always starts and I don't see the need in replacing it just yet. Routine maintenance to the car has involved new disks and pads all round, new Tyres all round, filter changes and oil changed every 10,000 miles or less. The bad points about this car... Personally I find the ESP/TC to be too intrusive. If you have been on any kind of driving course or have the experience to deal with skids/understeer/oversteer it can become a man vs machine rather than machine helping man, notably in the wet. The sump is also starting to rust and corrode and will need replacing soon (Ford will charge you an arm and a leg but it can be done a lot cheaper a small local garage, or even by...

Review of Ford Focus 2.0

Go get one for not a lot

Advantages: Speed,comfort, room and that sound system
Disadvantages: Using the back seats, cost of parts.

...fit. The engine and gearbox work very well together, to give very smooth up changing and instant down when you put your foot on the go pedal. No waggling of sticks and messing with left foot pedals just instant go and lots of it. Tyres have been mentioned in other reports and the right choice for your driving style is a must. When I bought the car it had brand new Bridgestone's on all 4 wheels. 6,000 miles later it had Toyo on all four as the Bridgestone's had worn out (excellent grip, no life) The four Toyos lasted 8,000 miles (average grip and no life) and for the last 25,000 miles I have had Avon's on it, but just 6 of them.(average to good grip, good life) The only thing that has gone wrong with it was the throttle pot packed in (its fly by wire, not a throttle cable) Volvo dealers wanted a shade under £700 to put it right...

Avon ZV1 and ZV3

Advantages: Were available at the time
Disadvantages: Wet handling, wear rate, noise

...I've had two different sets of Avon tyres on my Alfa 155 V6 in a year !!! First off, the ZV1: Seemed a good buy at the time and I'd heard of Avon tyres. I was replacing my worn out Toyo Proxes T1-S which I'd only got 10000 miles out of (yes I do track days and club meets so drive the car hard). The ZV1's were about £20 a corner dearer than I paid for the Toyos, so was expecting great things. The Toyos had been ace, but doing 25K a year I couldn't really afford 3 sets of tyres a year. First thing I noticed was the lack of traction in the dry. The tyres struggled to get the power down. In the wet it was way worse !!! I could spin the wheels in 3rd gear at 80mph if I planted the foot suddenly. The old Alfa 12v V6 isn't that powerful by todays standards, but could easily break traction with these tyres.
