A masterpiece in its class
Review of Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon 4.2 TD Automatic by
01ict587
Advantages: Industry leading reliability and build quality, versatile, comfortable.
Disadvantages: Parking can be an issue, fuel usage is high if you push this car.
...I believe that the Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon is one of the Japanese firm's greatest achievements and really presents itself with many excellent features from their vast array of technology and high quality parts. As it is their top of the range 4x4, a serious amount of time and effort has gone in to designing a large but road friendly vehicle that will adapt well to the requirements of many people. Even though this car has been in production for a good few years now, it is in my mind the top all round 4x4 on the market for the various reasons I will try to explain below.
I think the first point that I must focus on in general is the incredible build quality and design of this vehicle. I part-own a T registration 4.2TD Amazon, now with 75,000 miles on the clock and have never needed to have anything other than routine services...

When Your Choice Is not Limited
Review of Toyota Land Cruiser 100 4.7 special by
polydeuces
Advantages: Great off-road ability
Disadvantages: Thirsty, not so good on normal roads
...The Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon has prices around the £40k mark which is a heck of a lot for any motor car. When paying this much for a car unless you have an unlimited budget and the vehicle is going to be one of a stable of exotic cars the you have to be sure the car is going to meet your needs. Do you really need the enormous off-road competence of the Land Cruiser ? Is the car going to be too big for your garage, drive or supermarket car-park? Firstly let’s look at just how good it is.
I was fortunate to be able to test-drive the Land Cruiser Amazon at one of Toyota’s customer days. The day was held at the Motor Safari centre in Caergwrle near Wrexham. This excellent off-road and driving centre has a superb facility which gives you the opportunity of testing your off-road driving skills and the capabilities of the car on tracks...

Lexus 470 incarnate of Toyota Land Cruiser
Review of Lexus LX470 by
ifulhasef
Advantages: Sophisticate and more modern feature
Disadvantages: Price
...The full-size SUV (sport-utility vehicle) from Toyota's luxury division "Lexus" got a name change, along with its new engine. In the other region in the world, Lexus 470 was released as brand of Toyota "Land Cruiser Cygnus". Switching from 6-cylinder power to a new 4.7-liter V8, also destined for Toyota's T100 pickup, the SUV was transformed from the LX 450 to the new LX 470. As before, it served as an upscale edition of Toyota's Land Cruiser. Styling was new, and the V8 engine was a "first." Each LX 470 had an independent front suspension and permanently engaged 4-wheel drive. No factory options were offered, apart from a power moon roof.
Engine :
Unlike Toyota's Land Cruiser, the LX 470 was equipped with Adaptive Variable Suspension. That system included computer-controlled shock absorbers that selected from 16 damping levels...

Not A Car But Great
Review of Toyota Land Cruiser 100 4.7 special by
marcus.jones
Advantages: 4WD, size,
Disadvantages: price, fuel economy,
...First off, let me say, I'm new on ciao so please be kind towards me. This opinion will be slightly off-topic because I own the Toyota Land Cruiser Limited Edition Wagon Diesel.
So, I live in the deep outback here in Oz and as you probably know, it is isolated (really!) I need a vehicle that is reliable, strong and relatively cheap to run.
Toyota is a popular brand in Australia and so that was the first place I looked. I drove my very old Jeep down to the Toyota store in Melbourne (5 hours drive.)
I look around and liked the look of the Toyota Land Cruiser Limited Edition Wagon Diesel. It was $61,490 AUS. That is around £22,000. I think this is quite dear but you get a really good vehicle far the price you pay.
The Land Cruiser has excellent off-road ability. I can drive it over virtually anything, from sand to rocks...

A Modern Day Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang
Review of Land Rover Discovery 3 by
markd_uk
Advantages: Safe, Supreme, Capable, Comfortable, Go-anywhere Vehicle
Disadvantages: Thirsty, Poor automatic gearbox
...my hire car to places most Discoverys will probably never go. And I used normal road tyres, too!
The Discovery 3 is fitted with Land Rover's patented Terrain Response system, a four-wheel-drive computer program that will see this vehicle tackle all but the most inhospitable of terrains. Take this car off-road and the Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon, surely the king of all-terrain sports, must be quaking in its Goodyears. Whilst most typical 4x4 cars have a selector lever that allows the driver to change from (in some cases) two wheel drive to four wheel drive with a hi-ratio gearbox and then on to four wheel drive with a lo-ratio gearbox, the Discovery 3 comes with a lot more. Yes, there's a hi- and lo-ratio switch; flick it and some computer trickery changes the transmission settings to provide more torque to the wheels to help get...

Landcruiser's Live Up To Their Name
Review of Toyota Land Cruiser 90 3.0 TD by
boymus
Advantages: Good Solid Well Built Truck
Disadvantages: Heavy around town
...I have recentley traded in a mitsubushi Padjaro aganst one of these fine vehicles called a landcruiser, and now i understand how it got it's name, it is by far the best 4X4 i have ever driven and dose just about everything you want from a 4x4.
The Padjaro was a super truck with great looks, but i would say that the cruiser is 30% better all round, not for looks but the actual ride is far smoother and the diesal engine is 50% quieter, everything is electronic even going into four wheel drive, i have the auto version with overdrive, the gear box is extremley smooth and keeps the engine at very low rev's when cruising, this keeping the vehicle very economical, it also features a power up button called ect power with gives the engine a power boost which is excellent off road, the interia finish is first class and the seating is very...

Japan 2 England 1
Review of Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 by
Fforfreddy
Advantages: Build quality / Good dealers / Load space / holds its price
Disadvantages: Not cheap. Would like 8 proper seat belts
...heater controls in rear.
Usual Alarm / immobiliser combination.
WHY I BOUGHT IT
I bought the Colorado at about 3 years old from a Toyota main dealer. The latest models seem very little changed (better audio etc.)
I had finally lost patience with my Range Rover Classic (3.9 V8) J-plate which was
(a)impossible to keep out of the repair shop for more than a few weeks at a time
(b) risking my ability to maintain my AA membership !
(c) costing a fortune at 14mpg (yes - fourteen!)
The Colorado immediately struck me as very solidly built, and all the surveys (J D Power etc) suggest that the vehicles and the dealers (which is just as important) are top class. So far - they are right.
EXPERIENCE TO DATE
Mechanically the Colorado seems very solid. The only failure so far has been the battery, and that can happen to anyone...

Toyota townace master surf
Review of Toyota SpaceCruiser by
carriethorn
Advantages: 8 seater mpv
Disadvantages: imported so parts expensive
...I had seen these lovely vehicles for some time and really wanted one. Due to an accident resulting in severe whiplash i was able to use the compensation to buy one.
The toyota townace is a lovely multi talented vehicle. Please let me explain.
It has 8 seats and this is great for large families or like me when you want to go out for days with friends. These seat can be lowered to make into a double bed. Great if you want to get away for a break. The back seats can be put up to make the boot space massive. The rear passenger front row seats can be swivelled round either to face the front or to face backwards. rather like being in a train.
It has twin airconditioning. believe me this is so useful because it is quite a long vehicle and in the summer the extra cool air is so refreshing. There are big air vents near the ciling...

IS THIS THE MOTORING EQUIVALENT OF WHITE GOODS?
Review of Toyota Avensis T4 2.0 D-4D by
RICHADA
Advantages: Safe. Big Interior & Boot. Very Refined. Superbly Built. Easy to Drive.
Disadvantages: Not many.
..., indeed the Corolla has been the worlds number one best selling car on and off during its now several decades of build and various incarnations. However, a Toyota Owners Club, that set me thinking, just how much is there to say about this most anonymous of marques?
We took a table upstairs, overlooking the Owners Club meeting and I could barely stifle my amazement as photographs were passed around of Corolla's, Land Cruisers, Celica's and MR2's. Then I started thinking about Toyota a little differently, yes of course apart from some very mundane, four wheeled tin boxes, they do, and have in the past, also produced some surprisingly desirable sports cars.
My mind then turned to the Avensis, current medium "upper" segment saloon and hatchback, a strong Ford Mondeo competitor, just in truth, the very type of (company) car that I myself am...

Wonder Machine
Review of Toyota SpaceCruiser by
PeterRodhouse
Advantages: Lots of space
Disadvantages: Old car
...The Toyota SpaceCruiser has to be one of the greatest cars of all time. With its spaceship looks and its vast amounts of space means that this car is a great all rounder. Unfortunatly the Space Cruiser went out of production at around the G reg stage so not many remain. Our Space Cruiser is sitting in our hard standing and rotting away which is a shame as it was our favorite car. We could take numerous people to all sorts of places without feeling squashed.
So this is really a tribute to a car which has come and gone without much notice. And if only Toyota released a new version of the SPace Cruiser then the world would be a better place to live in....
