Reviews of trackball mice
And now with a trackball...
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse trackball by
Screm
Advantages: Trackball is good for some
Disadvantages: Trackball is bad for some and this one can be a little unresponsive
...On the lighter side of the mouse, Microsoft realized that it couldn't just create mice, since there were other folks out there that were into trackballs. The trackball is simply a mouse upside down really, with a ball your thumb or fingers move around, with the buttons in various places. Microsoft got cute with the trackball, and decided to give it a nice glossy surface, and make it quite ergonomic.
The index finger controls the ball, while the middle finger or the ring finger controls the wheel on the right. The wheel on the IntelliMouse TrackBall performs just like it does on the other mice. In addition to the wheel, the two buttons for clicking are now on the left side of the trackball, in which your thumb is to control. The wheel on the trackball can click as well as scroll, just like the other mice. I never really liked...

Why by a microsoft trackball when this is as good?
Review of Logitech Trackman Wheel - trackball by
tobuyornottobuy
Advantages: Space saving, ease of use
Disadvantages: cant think of one
...I wanted a new mouse, desk space was starting to get limited so I looked into getting a trackball mouse. After trawling through loads of mice and trying them in the shops, I decided I wanted a 2 button + scroll wheel, side trackball mouse. The microsoft version was way to expensive, then I saw this on an auction site (if you`ve read any other of my reviews you`ll know the one!) for £14.99 brand new inc P&P and I had to have it!
Connection is via USB or the PS2 adapter and a driver disc is included to allow full use for all the buttons. Installing the mouse takes all of 2 minutes and your away.
At first it was a bit strange after using a normal mouse , but once used to the thumb wheel it is great. I know alot of people moan about them but all the buttons can be made to activate what ever function you want and the scroll...

WHICH MOUSE IS FOR ME? HELP!!!
Review of Member Advice on Mice and Trackballs by
penguin1052
Advantages: LEARN ABOUT MICE
Disadvantages: DON'T LEARN ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE
...it to do. My advice is to check that you can set the buttons to do what YOU want not what the manufacturer wants you to do with it.
You will find these are available anything from about £5 or so plus the £1 up for the mouse mat.
My advice? Better than the first but can still do better
TRACKBALL MICE
These are basically a big ball on what looks like a mouse, a kind of ball mouse turned upside down so you can move the ball with your finger. Some have big balls and some small. Personally I’ve never managed to get on with them, but I know other people who think they are wonderful. This one is a matter of taste really, I don’t think they look as nice. Most have the extra programmable buttons as standard so they have all the features. Also you won’t need a mouse mat. They don’t really have any disadvantages other than getting used...

A MOUSE WITH BALLS!!
Review of Microsoft Trackball Explorer - trackball by
Louizalass
Advantages: Comfortable to use & translates foreign languages!
Disadvantages: For right-hand users only
...WARNING!!! This mouse was designed for right-hand users only - there is no way a left-hander could use it!!!
I WAS GIVEN this Trackball mouse by my husband for Christmas because with my arthritis I was finding it painful when using the old style standard mouse which came with our computer.
We had previously looked at some fancy ergonomically designed mouses (mice?!!!) at PC World and the ones which would have probably suited me even better where priced nearer £100 and that was just a few pounds too far!
At £50 this mouse, though still a tad on the expensive side, is worth every penny to me.
FIRSTLY, at approximately 8" long by 5" across over its widest part, it fits well beneath the whole of my hand. With the old-style mouse, my hand was scrunched up and became extremely painful when using the mouse for any length of time...

This one is safe from the dog ....
Review of Logitech Cordless TrackMan Optical - trackball by
AdamCristos
Advantages: Works through walls
Disadvantages: Some people really don't like trackballs .. uses batteries
...This really does have to be the best of Logitechs cordless series.
For those of you that are unaware of what a trackball is, imagine an upsidedown mouse. So instead of moving the mouse around the table you just move the ball.
This has 2 advantages.
1) Reduced risk of RSI as body movement to control the device is far less.
2) Less desk space required, as the body of the device does not move.
The device is in 2 parts, the reciever, which plugs into a standard mouse port or a USB port, and the actual trackball itself, which is powered by 2 AA batteries.
The shape of the trackball is similar to that of ergonomic mice, i.e. countoured to fit the inside of your palm. Under your thumb you will find 3 buttons, the larger of whichequates to the left mouse button, and the other two perform the back and forward functions on Internet...

Nothing cheesy about this mouse
Review of Microsoft Trackball Optical - mouse, trackball by
tearsfall
Advantages: No more frantically shifting your hand across the desk
Disadvantages: A pet hate - the red light that comes on when you move the trackball!
...An optical trackball mouse, you say? Well, mice of the computer kind have now been given a new lease of life thanks to the trackball, and I reccomend you give this one a go. To operate this mouse, you simply place your hand on the stylish, gray part where your hand and fingers go, stick your thumb on the red trackball (note the red light which is charming at first, but a little annoying in time) move it around and away you go! At first, it's only natural to feel that you can't use the mouse at all because it is such a change from your usual mouse. "I don't like this..." I thought, and you will too. I couldn't immediately get used to the feeling of never needing to move the mouse and my hand frantically around the desk again. But, stick with it! After a day or so, I never wanted to go back to the average mouse ever again.
The mouse...

My favorite trackball/mouse/etc ever
Review of Logitech Trackman Cordless Wheel - trackball by
phalangid
Advantages: Ergonomic, control of pointer, battery life
Disadvantages: Takes a week to get used to
...This is probably my favorite purchase for my computer 'stuff' collection! I started using a cordED version of this thing 10 years ago or so at work, got one for myself, and after it died (was in use for 5 years, which is fair in my mind) I got the cordless version listed here. I love this thing, and here are some details on why:
Ergonomics - I think this thing is really good to reduce strain on your wrist, and after a week or two getting used to the way it works with your thumb being the finger to move the trackball, it's so easy to work with.
Detail on screen - at least for me, it's really easy to get exactly what I want to click on, easier than with a mouse! I know one reviewer doesn't like this for gaming... I love it for gaming! I do 1st person shooters a lot (i.e. HalfLife, etc.) and it works like a dream.
Software...

Money well spent but not for games
Review of Logitech Trackman Cordless Wheel - trackball by
STEWADA
Advantages: Comfortable, good-looking, east to setup, tidy, long-lasting
Disadvantages: Accuracy not the best
...Years ago my brother asked me what I wanted for my birthday. "A Logitech Trackman Marble trackball", I replied.
6 years on I still have that Trackman. Sure, it looks a bit dated and the logo has rubbed off from all the hours at work using it but for its extremely advanced age it is still in perfect working order and if it wasn't for my need for gadgets I would still use it. So how does Logitech's new Trackman compare?
I purchased Logitech's Cordless Trackman Wheel (USB) for about £40 early last year (2002). I was a bit shocked to find that the shape, although functionally the same, had been altered from the previous model but after a couple of hours I was up and running like I'd been using it for years.
For those who still use a mouse I have one thing to say to you... R.S.I
I can use this trackball for extended lengths...

This is one weird 'wild' mouse... ;)
Review of Kensington Orbit trackball by
Saiyan
Advantages: Bi - handed allowed, sleek (and modern), saves space, V.easy to use and it goes on.
Disadvantages: Dust may cause problems - but its not as bad as the dust affects on a typical mouse.
...Kensington Orbit Elite
Kensington - http://www.kensington.com. I’m not to sure if Kensington is a well known brand. All I know is that they are a computing business whom produces various computing products such as mice and wireless products.
So far I’ve heard many positive feed backs from consumers who have bought Kensington products. I’m not to sure but I believe Kensington are slowly building up there companies image to represent their high quality products.
I also believe that their prices for products are relatively cheap compared to other businesses and they still deliver top quality.
Introduction
---------------
Note: There are many models (families) of the Kensington Orbit.
I have decided to review the ‘KENSINGTON ORBIT ELITE TRACKBALL model: 64292’
After putting up with the average mouse I decided to buy...

Not perfect, but it'll do
Review of Logitech Trackman Wheel - trackball by
Dave951
Advantages: Better than its rivals
Disadvantages: Uncomfortable
...As you may notice I have already tried the cordless version of this mouse and I was far from impressed... so much so I passed it on as a Christmas present.
Reason for purchase: I have the predecesor to this mouse and it is really good and has lasted over 5 years and still works perfectly. The problem with it was it was made out of the white plastic that turns yellow over time like old monitors & towers. I decided to give it a paint job last week which was a disaster & that led me to buy this.
I should point out I have a Microsoft Optical Trackball Mouse and I absolutely hate it because the marble rubs against its enclosure and causes jerky cursor movements. As users of trackball mice may know a build up of grime tends to gather underneath the marble. In the Microsoft mouse this grime focuses right on the optical lens and it took me...
