Muck-spreading and bale-loading sequences show all the different Ferguson trailers and loaders, illustrating just how extensive the range had become by the 1950s. Nearly all the implements come from Harold Beer's collection in North Devon. A range of Ferguson tractors provide the power, including a rare four-wheel-drive conversion. THE BIG NEW HOLLAND VOLUME 2 At the start of the farming year we bring you the power and durability of New Holland farm machinery in action, battling with the elements in Aberdeenshire in the North of Scotland to enable determined farmers to plough and harrow their fields and sow the crops that will survive one of the wettest seasons on record to feed the livestock and the people in the year ahead. In the beautiful countryside around Riverstick in County Cork in the far south of Ireland, we visit the farm of Vincent Buckley and his family and enjoy the spectacle of a fleet of New Holland tractors sowing oil seed rape. On the borders of County Down and County Antrim in Northern Ireland, we call to visit the Tate family as they prepare the ground and sow their potatoes. When they come to harvesting that crop, severe weather conditions test the mettle of both man and machinery, but those conditions are only a taste of what is to come. Harvesting the carrots in cruel conditions in mid-January takes determination, team work and, of course, the power of great farm machinery, so they call in the big Dewulf self-propelled machine to do the job in extremely difficult conditions. In Alberta in Canada the climate is different; the crop of Lucerne, also called Alfalfa is less familiar and we see some New Holland machinery in action baling it. Across in Ontario on the other side of Canada, we get some insights into how the Frey family farms this beautiful bit of country. In Germany where weather conditions, are much better, we see two combines working together in the large field of wheat as they are also bringing their crops home to the farm. Back in Ireland at the Whyte farm in north county Dublin, we see how these big cereal and potato growers get the job done no matter what the weather throws at them with their fleet of New Hollands.

Muckross Traditional Farms (Killarney Ireland) DVD follows the farming calendar year starting with spreading the farmyard manure unto the ground in November, right through until the threshing of the stack of oats the following October. At Muckross Farms the full farming year of the 1930's is re-enacted just the way it was done then. This was the time before there were tractors on the farm and when all the work was done with horses, donkeys and by the farmer himself. The ground is ploughed during March using two mighty horses capable of ploughing an acre a day. By mid April it is time to plant the crops, weather permitting. The role of the women on the farm is clearly explained at a time when it would have been necessary to bring the small animals and bird into the farm house protecting them from Foxes and other predators. It would not have been uncommon at that time to have a cow in the house during cold weather. All of the year's farming activities are covered in this DVD. The ploughing, harrowing, sowing and reaping along with saving the hay and routine daily chores like milking the cow, making butter, baking bread and gathering potatoes are also shown. The DVD concludes with the women of the house cooking a large meal for all the helpers at the day of the threshing. This meal is followed by a dance in the farmhouse. This DVD highlights a time in Ireland when although money was scarce, people lived an uncomplicated and contented lifestyle. The most important time of the year for the Irish farmer was during the Summer at haymaking. This DVD shows a variety of horse pulled machines for turning and drying the cut grass before it was made into hay. The value of the farms livestock depended greatly on the quality of the hay produced.
