Nutrition Scales - A dieters life saver
Review of Rosemary Conley Food Nutrition Scales by
yvonnedavies
Advantages: gives you a wide range of nutritional info
Disadvantages: each food item needs a code - so don't loose the code card
...Ok firstly I cannot recommend this product highly enough. This has been the single most useful item I've bought all year.
On it's basic level, it is just a kitchen digital weighing scales. It looks smart in any kitchen with the flat round glass top and an almost triangular silver base. Also you can choose the type of weight you want - grams, pounds & Kg's.
It also has a zero button, which means you can just keep adding to the same bowl and easily checking how much each item weighs etc - you really don't appreciate how convenient that is until you start using it. Also it has a memory for 9 items, which is invaluable when you get onto the next section.
NOW THE GREAT STUFF!!!
Ok this is why I love this item so much. As well as the usual weight measurements, all you need to type in is a 4 short code for representing the food item...

Time-honoured traditions
Review of Mystics of the Christian Tradition - Stephen Fanning by
frkurt
Advantages: Fascinating, well-written, broadly drawn
Disadvantages: none
...'Mystics of the Christian Tradition' by Steven Fanning is a great primer to the mystical traditions of Christianity. As the use of the plural implies, there are in fact many different, divergent traditions of mysticism and mystical knowledge in history and family of Christendom. Fanning looks at many of the major traditions, and some of the lesser known, too.
Fanning’s approach is rather interesting. Many texts on mysticism, Christian or otherwise, tend to look at the philosophy, the practices, or the primary textual sources as being the focus of consideration. While these are certainly not absent in this text, Fanning in fact uses a method of looking at the mystics themselves, rather than the traditions, philosophies, etc. of which they are a part.
‘There are two ways of knowing Christ: one can either know all about him...

The scale of disaster
Review of Flooding catastrophe, could the scale of damage have been lessened? by
Boo.Biz
Advantages: Action has now been taken
Disadvantages: The scale of disaster
...been avoided? There are a lot of people saying that the goverment was warned of the current situation with flood defences, and that put under serious flood conditions, we didn't have the needed defences in place.
I think the government didn't realise the danger, and hazard of such information, untill it happened, and now that it has, we can see that there are being new measure implemented. So that, should this happen again. We are a little more prepared.
Personally, i think though maybe the scale of disaster caused should have been lessened, there is reasonable action undertaken now that it shouldn't happen again....

The traditional way to turn on
Review of Traditional Chrome Taps by
mumsymary
Advantages: In my opinion they look good
Disadvantages: Difficult for those with arthritis or poor hand control.
...I was discussing taps with my daughter a month or two ago as she was having a new bathroom fitted. A few years ago now we had new taps fitted and I investigated all types of tap trying to get the perfect tap .We looked at the various kinds of taps, their ease of use their looks their price. I remember talking about traditional chrome taps with her.
Chrome taps are a good choice as they go with most bathroom and sink colour choices they are the standard silver colour.
Traditional taps are the ones with a cross top handle that you twist to turn the water on. You can buy mixer traditional style taps but I prefer individual hot and cold taps They will have an H or a C printed in the centre of the cross handle.
There are many tap designs nowadays so I do not think these traditional cross top ones are really that popular...

Traditional yet not.
Review of Onn Stainless Steel Traditional Kettle by
scooby32
Advantages: Traditional but stylish
Disadvantages: A bit on the noisy side.
...Stainless steel traditional kettle from ONN.
ONN seems to be the new name in manufacturing.
Stainless steel, with black thick handle.
Black swivel base.
Swivel base turns 306 degrees, suitable for left and right-handed people.
Boil dry safety cut out, stops elements from burning out.
1.7 capacity, for larger quantities of water.
Transparent water gauge, for quick and easy measuring.
Height 9ins
It says this kettle is traditional, it is and it isn't.
Do you remember the kettle that went on to the gas ring, that was round and made a noise through the spout when boiled, well it is very similar to this.
It is round but has a length the roundness, it has your chunky handle, and the lid has a chunky round knob.
The spout is not very long, but wide. This is handy for me and I never like filling a kettle up from the tape, so...

Worth their weight in gold! (Weight - get it?)
Review of Salter Microtronic Kitchen Scale by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Compact, accurate, good price, 10 year guarantee
Disadvantages: None at all
...It all started with discussions about Christmas presents. In our family we have always bought each other lots of small presents so we have lots to unwrap on Christmas Day, but this year we decide to change. Mom and dad are not getting any younger and so didn’t feel able to do lots of shopping and my sister and I were both busy getting our respective houses the way we wanted them, so a single more expensive present would be more useful. It was with this in mind that we decided to be more traditional this year and buy one another one main present and we set our price limit for one another at about £30.
I have recently had my kitchen fitted and decided that a new set of scales would be a welcome addition as my old ones had been relegated to the study to weigh Ebay parcels!
I had a look in the Argos catalogue and saw just what I wanted...

A Traditional Cycle Shop
Review of Portswood Cycles, Southampton, Hampshire by
PaulCatterall
Advantages: How bike shops should be
Disadvantages: Located in an anonymous, and somewhat delapidated place
...Set in the somewhat decaying facade that is Portswood, Southampton, Portswood Cycles represents a dying breed of cycle shops. It is all too easy to overlook such a place when retailers such as Halfords have made such ruthless attempts to dominate the leisure cycling market. Many local bike shops found it near-impossible to cope with the pressures of competition from such large-scale companies, and subsequently ceased trading.
It is therefore somewhat refreshing to find that there are a few stores left which can cater for the needs of the modern cyclist, in a low-pressure environment. You will always find help close to hand in this store, with extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. Prices are very reasonable, and the facilities for aftersales service are remarkably good. The range of bicycles reflects the shops traditional roots...

Great scale with a big display and a low price
Review of Weightwatchers 8959U by
martafdz
Advantages: Display, price, size, everything!
Disadvantages: If you want one that measures body fat as well, this hasn't got it
...I started a diet about 2 weeks ago, and I was struggling to read my weight in my old mechanical (and cheap) scales from Sainsburys. I decided that it was time for me to buy some digital scales with a big screen to see the small changes my diet was doing. I saw many different scales, but at the end I decided to buy this one for many reasons: because it is not expensive, because it is really thin and can fit under my bed, and because the screen is big.
The model 8959U is also called "Ultra Slim Polished White Glass Scale". I bought it from Argos at £22.
PACKAGE
It comes in a box with a picture of the scales in the front. Once we opened, we find a blue bag sealed completely, so this guarantees you that it has not been opened before.
This bag is secured by two pieces of hard cardboard on each side, so the scales don't move...

Weight watchers BMI scales
Review of Weightwatchers 8991U by
lynh17
Advantages: Lots of useful info
Disadvantages: Feet fall off
...Overall Impressions:
I think that these scales are great. They are stylish to view, light to handle, have memory slots for 10 different people, give consistent readings, and tell you much more than just your weight.
Looks:
These scales are a two tone silvery chrome colour. They are very simple yet stylish - minimalistic, would go great with any decor.
They are average size for bathroom scales, and have an LCD display to show you your readings. Under the LCD display there are four oval shaped buttons, which enable you to navigate the menus, and input all your data.
Useful:
Not only do these scales tell you your weight, but they tell you your BMI, How much of your weight is body fat, what percentage of your weight is body fat, what percentage of your weight is water retention, your fitness level.
They also come...

Weighed in the balance
Review of Salter Block Design Scale by
SueMagee
Advantages: Very accurate!
Disadvantages: Too accurate!
...Many years ago when I had the pleasure of working for a living I wore a watch. The face simply had a mark for each five minute interval with no second hand and no minutes marked. It kept reasonable time provided that I adjusted it once a day when it was rewound. Numerous friends tried to persuade me to buy a digital watch on the grounds that I would know the time more accurately, but I resisted because my watch was intended to be correct to the nearest five minutes, whereas a digital watch that isn’t correct to the second is wrong. It would have been too accurate for my purposes.
I’ve had the same approach with scales. The ones that I used until eight months ago had been with me for more than twenty years and had belonged to my mother-in-law. I suspect that they had been her mother’s before that. They were of the old...
