Trafalgar Square :Good for People Watching !
Advantages: Great meeting point. Impressive statue
Disadvantages: Can get very crowded
...I nearly always make a visit to Trafalgar Square when I am in London. It is very central and most days thousands of people are there. In some respects it is a great nodal point and it is impressive and there is the statue of one of Britain's great heroes Admiral Nelson to gaze at. The square also attract thousands of pigeons and it is quite a nice pastime to sit and feed them crumbs from your sandwiches. A lot of foreign tourists congregate in Trafalgar Square and if you spend an hour or two there you will certainly see a wide cross section of humanity. Another nice thing is that you see all age groups in Trafalgar Square. Nearby are some fine attractions such as the National Portrait Gallery, St Martins in the Fields and you are only a stones throw away from Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall....

I live in Trafalgar Square
Advantages: Relaxing. Much of interest.
Disadvantages: Pigeons do cause a bit of mess
...Trafalgar Square is full of London's history and some oddities. The Square was laid out in the 1840s to commemorate the great sea victory, and the centrepiece is Nelson's Column, on top of which the man himself gazes southwards towards the battle scene far away. (Hitler was so impressed, he had intended to move Nelson and the four lions to Berlin after the invasion of Britain). Other attractions include: the standard measure in the north part, where all the world's metric measurements are taken from; the smallest police station in the country, (a little box); the empty plinth, with a variety of monuments at time of writing; the fountains, the statues, and the lions, and of course the pigeons. Buy some pigeon feed and see if you can get a photo of yourself with a pigeon sat on your shoulder. Best of all, if the weather's fine, you can...

Excellent service and fantastic location in the heart of London
Advantages: Excellent customer service, immaculate presentation.
Disadvantages: We got a good rate, but I think the hotel could be expensive if you don't get a deal.
...We stopped here on a Saturday night during a quick trip to London. I wasn't sure what to expect as I have previously stayed in 4 star hotels which don't really live up to expectations, but this met every expectation.
Firstly, the location - this hotel is right in Trafalgar Square and is a 2 minute walk from the Trafalgar Square exit of Charing Cross station. You could not be more perfectly located for visiting any part of London you can get just about anywhere in Central London fairly quickly from this hotel.
From the moment we set foot in the door nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were excellent. The check in staff were really friendly and helpful. We also got a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival too! It isn't a traditional hotel reception - there is a large desk in the bar area, but I think that this...

Are you a pigeon lover
Advantages: A fun place to visit for all the family
Disadvantages: Can be too over crowded
...Every time I visit London, I always make my way to Trafalgar Square! It's justone of the many places I enjoy visiting in the big city - and it's free!!
Not only do you get pigeons in their thousands flocking here, but people come here in their droves too. Would they still visit Trafalgar Square if it was pigeonless? As you are well aware, it is famous for the feathered little creatures!
There's a statue of Lord Nelson there, and 2 huge stone statues of lions. Round about Trafalgar Square is the hustle and bustle of the daily life there with the famous red buses and black cabs.
This place is also well-known for the people who flock there on New Year's Eve. I thought I'd give this a go one year! So, tagging my friend with me, we made our way up to London. We got to Trafalgar Square for about 10pm, and found a comfortable...

More than a column.
Advantages: A nice place to visit
Disadvantages: A bit too touristy.
...After reading about Trafalgar Square from a fellow member, I decided to put my own synopsis together on it.
Hopefully it will provide some background and give the tourists amongst you some help in getting to and from One of Londons most famous landmarks.
What is it?
It is a vast concrete square that was laid between 1829 and 1843 to comemorate the victory scored by Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
The main focal point of the square is the huge 185 feet column with a statue of the famous mariner perched on top. The 17 foot Nelson is seen standing proud while holding his sword in his Left Hand and looking out over London.
The Column is surrounded, or guarded, by 4 massive Bronze Lions on which tourists are seen taking pictures and climbing.
To the centre, are the fountains made famous by the jovial types that...

My favourite London hotel
Advantages: lovely hotel
Disadvantages: a tad pricey!
...I have to say this is my favourite central London hotel and my first choice when I go.
Location, location, location....
As the name suggests in is located in Trafalgar Square in London and is easily accessible by tube.
First Impressions
The seting of Trafalgar square is impressive in itself but the hotel is set in a lovely old building in the south west corner. When stepping inside though there is a sharp contrast as you are hit by a truely modern and chic surrounding. It would be fair to say that this is not your standard Hilton.
Reception - Check-in/Check-out
I found checking in (and out) very quick in easy it was all done in a matter of minutes. The reception desk is a sort floating glass desk just next to the hotels large downstairs bar. The reception staff were really helpful and I have no complaints whatsoever...

She's big and white and covered in pigeons
Advantages: unexpectedly beautiful
Disadvantages: predictably controversial
...As is so often the case with public projects and big plans, when the money runs out, it's easy to work on the "don't worry, they'll never notice we didn't finish" principle. And so it was at Trafalgar Square. It was designed in 1838 by Sir Charles Barry and a few years later the square was named in honour of the 1805 naval victory at Trafalgar. Over the years bits got added on as the square developed into a major public space in the nation's capital.
There probably wasn't too much trouble pulling together the money for a whopping great phallic column and a statue of Admiral Lord Nelson - after all, throughout history we've never been backward about celebrating a victory over the French. Money was found for some very attractive lions that are much loved and climbed over by tourists and there are some lovely fountains that are fun to...

An apposite time to write this
Advantages: CHeap
Disadvantages: Unimpressive
...work well). I've only done the new-year thing once, and that was with a South African or I would never have gone, and it wasn't a great deal of fun. Apart from anything else, they don't have a single countown arranged and trafalgar square has a lot of clocks in buildings around it, so everyone was following a slightly different countdown which kinda ruined the moment. Anyway. If you're determined to go you won't listen to a bitter old Londoner and you'll head off anyway, and the best of luck to you....

Advantages: great sightseeing place
Disadvantages: sometimes over crowded, too many pigeons
...Trafalgar square is always good for a visit, close to leicester square its worth the walk.LOTS of pigeons as we all know, and you can feed them if you wish,(i'd rather not)
The fountains are nice and its a good place to sit and take everything in,look round at all the old and modern buildings .Always lots of peolpe mostly sightseeing with their cameras and video's,dont be surprised if someone approaches you and asks you to take a photo of their family with the pigeons.

If you love pigeons then you will love this place
Advantages: The birds, fun to be had.
Disadvantages: Does get very busy!
...Trafalgar Square, set in the heart of London, is one of the most famous places in the world. Holiday-makers in their squillions flock here all throughout the year to see what exactly?
Well, there is a statue of Lord Nelson. And nearby, is the National Portrait Gallery. And - of course, there are thousands upon thousands of hungry pidgeons! If you are afraid of birds, then please don't go here! But, if you are a bird lover, then you will love this place! This is undoubtadly the sole reason people go here - for the birds.
Around Trafalgar Square is the hectic hustle and bustle of London with the black cabs and red double-decker busses going by, but you are safe in the square from traffic. But, traffic in human form flock here like there's no tomorrow. Actually finding an English person can be somewhat difficult. There are...
