Join on the Choo-choo train....
Review of Tesco Wooden Train Set by
kerrith
Advantages: cheap, lots of add-ons
Disadvantages: pieces do not stay attached
...My son is train mad. Anything to do with trains will catch his attention. So, as it was approaching his second birthday, I went looking for a suitable train set.
Browsing round the toy section in Tesco, I noticed they had a small selection of wooden train sets. Usually priced at £24.95 for a 70 piece set, the sale price was £9.24. Perfect. The other set available was a 50 piece set usually priced £19.97 but in the sale at £8.87.
As well as train sets, Tesco also has a wide range of wooden accessories for the set. You can buy an extra train carriage for less than a pound, a whole train and animals for £3.75, a signal box for around the same price and many other things. You can buy additional track to add on to your railway in various sized boxes, mostly costing under £10. These are ideal presents for children who already...

Tesco trains
Review of Tesco Wooden Train Set by
classicmum
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: As good as original brands
...Santa bought my four year old the lovely mountain train set made by tesco. He desperately wanted a train set and when we were in Toysrus we would look at the brio sets and then look around the other toys. It was not unitl near to Christmas that I actually decided to look at the price. I was horrified to discover how expensive brio train sets were. I looked in several other shops ELC etc but they too were too expensive. I found a cheap set in ASDA but it did not seem to be compatabile with brio or even near to the quality, so I decided not to buy the train set from there either. When we were shopping in Tescos my son pointed out the train sets and took a real interest in a lovely mpuntain train set which had had a wooden train set, a little bridge, wooden animals, trees, tunnels, trains, carriages, sign and mountains all for £24...

All aboard the Tesco train
Review of Tesco Wooden Train Set by
tarara
Advantages: Cheap, well made, compatible with other brands
Disadvantages: none i can see
...I have 6 young nephews all are train mad and the all have the ELC train sets. You know the ones I mean wooden tracks and engines that cost a fortune.
Well come Chritmas and birthdays buying for them all is a nightmare so i usually end up getting them additions to their trainsets but find the early learning ones a bit pricy, a single engine is around £5 and a set of 4 wooden people will se you back £4.
So while doing me grocery shopping I decided to stop off at the toy secion in Tesco to see if there was anything suitable for nephew who was turning 3 years old. It was here I discovered that Tesco do a wooden train set which is compatible with other brands. After very close inspection I decided it looked just as good quality as the ELC and for a fraction of the price. On this occasion I bought a zoo train which included an engine, 3...

Train your Brain!
Review of More Brain Training (NDS) by
bluejules
Advantages: Great fun, good for your brain
Disadvantages: Time consuming and addictive!
...as giving a health warning - e.g. if your eyes hurt or you get a headache etc, stop using the device.
Daily Training
There are various training exercises, which can be completed everyday. You get a stamp on your on-screen calendar when you complete a daily training exercise. Each time a certain number of stamps are collected you get access to more training exercises and settings etc. If you do at least 3 training sessions per day you get a larger stamp on your calendar. This does not affect the number of stamps you get though as you can only gain one per day. I have now opened all the training exercises, and so has my dad.
Sometimes when you turn the DS on and go into Daily training, there is a little activity for you to do before you start the training. For example, it asks you to think of three acrostics for the words it gives...

.... Lego baby can be used alongside other Lego bricks. To fit these bricks to duplo, adapter bricks are available from LEGO Direct (set 5022).
This baby train wieghs: 422 g boxed
I can not find this train for sale on line anywhere Amazon uk say it is not available but http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0007LXVNU/ref=dpolp2/002-6275501- 8547268 it is available at $24 plus postage of £7. I am not sure the train came from that I played with maybe someone had it as a pressie from the U S?
This train consists of an engine and two trucks/carriages. First the engine it's a dark green engine which is rounded to look like the boiler of an old steam train. There is a funnel of an orange ball this if depressed will toot like an engine. Behind the boiler is the driver's carriage this has a large rounded knobbly bit that another brick can...

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training
Review of Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? by
IzzyS
Advantages: Lots of different types of training
Disadvantages: Speech recognition/microphone isnt great, Dr Kawashimas comments can get a bit annoying
...you to draw a few pictures, using the stylus pen. The picture task is all about using your brain to picture things and then use that to draw the item and the random questions I've discovered are asked so that he can then ask you the same question but much later on, for example a month or so later, so a month later you put the cartridge back in and he asks 'what did you do when you first got up in June 23rd 2007?', so again thats to do with memory.
Its a pretty fun game to start with, once you've got it all set up and you start the training, you can feel pretty determined (well at least I certainly did!) to prove to Dr Kawashima that you have a nice, young brain! however, after a while the novelty did run a bit | | |
