Dover Priory Train Station
Review of Dover Priory Train Station by
Jamie73
Advantages: recently refurbished, nice cafe
Disadvantages: in a grotty area of Dover town
...History
Dover Priory Train Station was first opened on 22 July 1861. It was originally called Dover Town but was renamed Dover Priory in 1863. The name Dover Priory was taken from the remains of St Martins Priory which was situated close to the station. Dover Priory Train Station suffered greatly during the war and was actually the first place in Dover that was bombed.
Dover Priory
Dover Priory is the only train station in Dover and is located about a 5 minute walk from the town centre of Dover. There is a free shuttle bus which runs from the train station to Dover Docks.
In August 2006 Dover Priory train station was renovated. These renovations included the refurbishment of the station building itself, the booking hall and the toilet facilities. CCTV cameras were installed which now cover the platforms, waiting areas and ticket...

A view from the train-ed eye
Review of Arriva Trains Northern by
m.lyon
Advantages: Improving steadily
Disadvantages: Prone to employee problems, poor standard regional trains
...At 26 years old, I am one of the few people my age that can't drive. I rely heavily on public transport and have done ever since I went to university. That's when my experiences with Arriva Trains Northern started - all of 6 years ago this summer. Here is my competition entry opinion, starting with a bit of company background
---Background---
Arriva Trains Northern (ATN) secured their franchise from Northern Spirit in 1997 and run local and transpennine services across Yorkshire and the North of England. They claim to operate around 1,400 services every day, 1,000 of which pass through Leeds City Station. They claim to cover around 80,000 miles every day on a network which stretches from Hull and Scarborough on the East Coast across to Blackpool, Liverpool, and Manchester on the West Coast, and from Carlisle and Sunderland...

This train dont stop here anymore
Review of South West Trains by
Modena
Advantages: Acceptable when the service is running properly, new trains soon, new information system soon, frequency
Disadvantages: Delays, dated trains, peak hours, patronising, see stories section
...times, which isn’t bad, but when waiting on the platform at Waterloo, I have heard of far many more cancellations. The latest it has made me is (whether because of cancellations or delays etc, has been one and a half hours.). Why is it so bad? I shall tackle this later…
The average big station on the Reading line has about 6/8 trains towards London Waterloo an hour, the small suburban ones (like Chiswick or Barnes Bridge) will have about 2. This is not that much, but acceptable given that the off peak trains are empty and there seems to be a lot of traffic once we near central London.
•Price
These are just like for any other part of the railway network, because performance isn’t that good (it’s one of the worse performers in the UK), SWT aren’t allowed to raise fares by too much, I think the prices...

Arriva trains Wales - There must be another way!
Review of Arriva Trains Wales by
donnabroom
Advantages: You eventually get to your destination.
Disadvantages: Over crowding, often late, difficult staff.
...I have recently had a VERY bad experience with Arriva trains Wales, so I am sorry if this review sounds a little "ranting". I will try and deliver a fair and balanced review of their services.
Firstly a little information about Arriva trains Wales. Arriva trains Wales took control of the franchise previously operated by Wales & Borders Trains on 7 December 2003. They have a fleet of aprox. 116 trains. Their route covers over 2,600 miles and they employ 1,860 members of staff. They also operate around 780 services a day on weekdays.
Their website states that they are trying to achieve reliable train services, clean, attractive stations, good quality levels of information, local, effective, caring management and helpful, friendly employees.
The URL of their website is: http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk. The website is in both Welsh...

A train Firm undeserving of a review
Review of Arriva Trains Northern by
DC-DanielColeflax
Advantages: errrr...
Disadvantages: northern trains, everything about them really
...stop at stations that do dot require any trains at the time they stop whereas others do not stop at stations that require frequent services. My local station in Swinton Interchange in south Yorkshire.and despite its interchange status services are not frequent, all are local stopping, and many will not take you out of the county. They go as far north as Newcastle and Carslisle, and as far south as Sheffield and Crewe.
The staff...
Staff are generally acceptable, but not much better than this. The majority of staff do not check tickets. Ticket office staff are often unfriendly and have seemingly never herd of a smile, or good customer service. Do not expect much from the staff as most simply aren't bothered. There are however, i should say, some acceptions who simply cannot do enough to help a customer. There is a conductor on the trains...

Get your act together SW Trains...
Review of South West Trains by
TYoung
Advantages: Good Staff, Gets you from A to B
Disadvantages: poor facilities and conditions. Very old fashioned and needs improving fast!
...After reading many opinions from other people regarding South West Trains, i have to agree with the people who havent given the SW Trains a good rating because they are very poor at the moment.
From when i was a small kid (about 10 yrs ago) i hardly ever went on trains but when i did i used to love it and always wanted to be a train driver. Well havent those years changed my opinion drastically.
Having been to a number of stations i feel that many train stations such as Southampton Central are becoming rather old fashioned and are really in need of a make over. With Southampton offering very few seating places for the public (such as around 2/3 benches for each platform) i feel that with many delays etc it would be better for the train users to have more seating facilities. Also the prices for coffee, food at several stations...

Stop the train , then let it go again.
Review of Brio Stop & Go Station by
mumsymary
Advantages: Adds play opportunities to the brio train set
Disadvantages: none
...Adrian was 4 years old in November and he was given a brio stop and go station. Adrian already has several brio trains and some wooden train track. .The Tesco wooden trains and track are compatible with the brio system I am led to believe the early learning wooden train set is also compatible.
What this station looks like what it does?
This stop and go station is a wooden station building a red central tower with two seats for toy people (brio does some, but Lego figures, plan family or play people figures fit well). It is | | |
