The Train to Damnation, Death and Destruction
Advantages: An outstanding book of great historical importance
Disadvantages: Not easy to get hold of
...I hate packing. I hate it with a passion beyond all logic. Despite packing my bags to go away from home every week, I still am rubbish at it.
So try to imagine a knock on your door. You go to answer and find a policeman with a gun who tells you that you have just 30 minutes to pack your things, leave your home, say goodbye to your friends and neighbours and leave - possibly to never return. You can only take what you can carry.
It's a nightmare isn't it? But for millions of people 60 years ago it was a harsh reality and the start of either a new life, or a quick route to death and damnation. I'm talking about the Partition of India - the topic of 'The Train to Pakistan' which is one of the finest books I've read in a long time.
Historical Background

Living in LIVINGSTON
Advantages: I live there
Disadvantages: That's an advantage?
...I was born in Leith and brought up in Edinburgh though I consider Livingston to be my hometown. But, since I've lived here for 27 years now, I suppose that isn't a huge surprise.
LIVINGSTON, or LIVI as it's more commonly known, has come a long way since it's inception way back in 1962. Until that time, it had been not much more than open farmland surrounding a small, ancient village on the road from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Now, with a population of over 50,000, it is the second largest settlement in the Lothians, after Edinburgh.
A popular misconception is that the name of the town is in honour of the Scottish explorer, David Livingstone. It's not - although there are connections. He was a regular visitor to the area when he stayed with his close friend and financial backer, James 'Paraffin' Young at his mansion, Limefield House...

A training day to remember
Advantages: Terrific acting, great plot, dark, compelling but intelligent
Disadvantages: Cop films might not suit all
...Training Day was a film that instantly stood out to me as a must watch film due through the fact that Denzel Washington had been nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the film. Having always admired Denzel's talent as an actor, I was greatly anticipating this film.
The central plot of the film is a young, slightly naive, wet behind the ears Ethan Hawke has joined the narcotics department he wants to make a difference and climb the ladder. Before he can hold these goals in my mind however, he will subject to a first day evaluation by Alonso a decorated, respected and equally feared narcotics officer.
Today is indeed going to be Ethan's training day, but this is no ordinary training day and while first perceiving his officer's tactics as being unorthodox, he begins to realise that there is a much darker side to him. Jake...

In the night garden ninky nonk train set
Advantages: strong, versatile, compact, nice bright colours, fun to play with
Disadvantages: none so far
...I decided to buy the in the night garden ninky nonk train set from Amazon as my young daughter is a big fan of in the night garden and whenever it comes on TV she gets really excited. So as my daughter already had some of the other characters from the show I wanted her to have the whole set and since buying it the train set the ninky nonk train set has become one of her favourite toys to play with on a daily basis.
The train set can come apart and be attached on many different ways and my daughter enjoys looking at the nice bright colours and putting some of the other in the night garden characters onto the train set even though it keeps falling of now and again it keeps her busy and sometimes I hear her in fits of giggles. The train set is very cute and versatile and its great as children such as mine can have hours of fun with it...

Livingstone - Zambia
Advantages: interesting with a huge amount of activities
Disadvantages: can be unwise to go out at night.
...If travelling to Zambia it is well worth your while to go down to livingstone. Buses travel very regularly from lusaka and many other places for a fare fee (around $20/k100000).
The journey takes about 6 hours.
Obviously the main attraction is Victoria Falls, and when going I highly recommend picking up a guide and walking about the falls and visiting the 'Angel's Armchair'. This is a once in a lifetime experience and one in which you can go right to the edge of the falls and look into the famous 'mosi-o-tunya'. To get around while there there is a plentiful supply of taxis and you shuold not pay more than K30000 (one-way) to get to and from the falls
Livingstone offers a diverse nightlife (by Zambian standards, which is pretty poor if your used to Westernized going out) but there are many bars with music that will go on till the very...

Virgin to Virgin Trains
Advantages: more efficient, clean and cost effective
Disadvantages: bit uncomfortable
...I hate public transport, always try to avoid it as much as possible and to be honest I have only ever caught a train once in my life and that was many years ago. I always tend to drive if I am going away on business or pleasure however this week I needed to take a trip to Worthing, Sussex and driving from Stoke to Worthing is a little bit of a trek or should I say getting on for 6 or 7 hours if you get stuck on the M25.
I decided the easiest option would be to go by train which would reduce my travelling time by almost half. The journey on the train to Worthing is just under 4 hours, and that includes three changes so you get plenty of time to stop, stretch you legs and get something to eat.
As you can probably appreciate this actually turned into a little adventure for me as trains are a completely new things to me, especialy...

Join on the Choo-choo train....
Advantages: cheap, lots of add-ons
Disadvantages: pieces do not stay attached
...My son is train mad. Anything to do with trains will catch his attention. So, as it was approaching his second birthday, I went looking for a suitable train set.
Browsing round the toy section in Tesco, I noticed they had a small selection of wooden train sets. Usually priced at £24.95 for a 70 piece set, the sale price was £9.24. Perfect. The other set available was a 50 piece set usually priced £19.97 but in the sale at £8.87.
As well as train sets, Tesco also has a wide range of wooden accessories for the set. You can buy an extra train carriage for less than a pound, a whole train and animals for £3.75, a signal box for around the same price and many other things. You can buy additional track to add on to your railway in various sized boxes, mostly costing under £10. These are ideal presents for children who already...

Imagine a little boy kneeling on the floor his head down and his fair hair shining he is saying chooo choo brrrrrrrrrmmmmmm . He reaches into the plastic tub we store the train set in for another piece of track it is wooden track this piece is a straight section. All aboard the Tesco train
Advantages: Cheap, well made, compatible with other brands
Disadvantages: none i can see
...I have 6 young nephews all are train mad and the all have the ELC train sets. You know the ones I mean wooden tracks and engines that cost a fortune.
Well come Chritmas and birthdays buying for them all is a nightmare so i usually end up getting them additions to their trainsets but find the early learning ones a bit pricy, a single engine is around £5 and a set of 4 wooden people will se you back £4.
So while doing me grocery shopping I decided to stop off at the toy secion in Tesco to see if there was anything suitable for nephew who was turning 3 years old. It was here I discovered that Tesco do a wooden train set which is compatible with other brands. After very close inspection I decided it looked just as good quality as the ELC and for a fraction of the price. On this occasion I bought a zoo train which included an engine, 3...

To Train or not to Train
Advantages: Good training programme and a variety of levels and unlockables
Disadvantages: Not for everyone
...This is a good game, certainly different and unique. I would say that it is not for everyone, I feel that some people may not like/can't be bothered to play the games on it.
If you are willing to compete with yourself and spend about 10+ Minutes each day training then go ahead and buy it. But if you don't have the attention span to be doing the same thing over and over I would give this a miss.
It has some exercises on it which are challenging and very addictive and some which are more of a 'do once' kind of thing.
Daily Training : Get a stamp each day you train so it records your progress - the more you do the larger the stamp.
Brain Age Calculations : To try and figure out your age based on many different aspects including speed and accuracy which can make the game quite addictive to lower your age (min. 21).
Some funny...
