...This is the latest DVD release of the animated Transformers: the Movie. The film was released in cinemas in 1986 at the height of the Transformers popularity. If you grew up in the 80s and were a Transformers fan this film should bring back memories. When it was released in cinemas, critics dismissed the film as a feature-length toy advert. I think that's a bit unfair though. While it is clear that the main purpose of the film was to introduce a new wave of Transformer toys, the story is entertaining and the quality of the animation is impressive. The film is much darker and more violent that the TV series. Perhaps your enjoyment of the film depends on whether you were a small child who enjoyed the TV series and cared about the characters or not. Plus how can you not love the extremely 80s soundtrack? Advantages: It's just great
Disadvantages: Be careful which version you get. One of them has two incidences of swearing.

...This film will sit in the hearts of 80s and 90s kids for years to come. It combines everything you need for a cartoon series made into a movie, including the important characters, an easy to follow plot, and a super-cheesy soundtrack. The plot is set in 2005. Bearing in mind the film was made in 1986, this is quite futuristic. Autobots and Decepticons are still locked in struggle, good vs evil. A new danger comes about, a huge transformer floating in space called Unicron, voiced by Orson Welles. This threatens to wipe out moons and planets one by one, and nothing seems able to stop it. Enter Hot Rod, a young arrogant Autobot who thinks he can take on Megatron and the Decepticons by himself. Advantages: Brilliant movie, great effects!

...A few years ago now my husband and I were sat happily watching the television when the show broke for adverts, we sat in amazement as a Citroen car unfolded itself standing up and began to dance, we looked at each other "you know what this means" he said to me "Transformers" I replied excitedly "imagine if they could make a live action movie!" little did we know that at that moment the movie was actually in production, the technology used in the adverts had made it's way to the Hollywood world of movie making. Two years later and the movie that most 80's children have longed for was released, naturally there was some apprehension by the original fans worried that their iconic characters would be changed or the storylines distorted. It was greeted with the same furore as Power Rangers was and is probably one of the first children's films and animated series that was devised with marketing in mind. Advantages: thrilling, pleasing fun, easy viewing, good story, all the family

...Wow what can you say; this is a brilliant movie, and this coming from a fervent follower of the transformers. At 31 years of age I am the prime age (pardon the pun) to enjoy this comeback for the autobots and the decepticons. This film has been produced in a manor fitting the huge following the transformers have. I have spent the last year buying generation 1 toys I never had as a youngster. Back to the film though, the fact Optimus prime is a bull nosed truck was easier to take then expected, you also think how can they have made the film with the original cars and trucks when they would be 20 years out of date. This taken they do look magnificent, the story line lends itself well to the history of the transformers and not going of on a tangent makes for good viewing. ...Transformers the Movie follows the story set in the TV series of the same name between good robots (the autobots) and bad/evil robots (the decepticons). The previous battles waged had forced them away from their home planet of Cybertron to earth and back again. The movie settles on the year 2005, the decepticons have taken over the home planet and forced the autobots to remain either on moonbases established on cybertron's moon's or at Autobot City on Earth. During a routine shuttle trip between the moonbase and the city the decepticons attack killing the four autobots on board (as others have said I found this distressing to see certainly 3 of my favourite characters wiped out at the start) although at this point none of the new autobot characters had been seen so nobody would know what was coming next. ...Over the last year or so my little boy has become quite a fan of Transformers, he's only 4 years old but can already name all the characters and even work out how to change the toys from one form to another. It was for his 4th birthday earlier this year that he asked for some new transformer toys and among the selection he received was Voyager Ratchet from the Transformers movie. Voyager Ratchet is based on the classic transformers idea coming in the form of a vehicle, Ratchet is an American emergency services vehicle in green and red, but able to change into a robot with the help of a clever design that allows you to move around parts of the toy until it is completely "transformed" The toy is suitable for 5 years upwards and while this was too old for Christopher I didn't have the heart to tell his Great Granddad he was too young... ...Transformers was one of the best movies I have seen, and Actvision didn't make any delay in releasing the official game of the movie. This game never even comes close to the quality of the movie, but still manages to keep the gamers interested, especially the fans of the old Tramsformers.
