Found Translation
Advantages: The setting was great; Characters were good; Director is also good;
Disadvantages: Ending
...Guys I hope that this translation is right, I might be wrong.
When I first bought my DVD, I was excited especially the cost was down from its normal value of around 20£. The excitement was a product of good insight of well known people and institution. I said to myself then is why not try it. So I had my first copy. Generally I found the movie in the level of satisfactory to very satisfactory.
You might be wondering how on earth did I come to that rating.
Here is how I objectively translated the movie.
Characters: Scarlett's role was outstanding. Well do not get me wrong I was not after the scene where she was on her knickers. Her performance was outstanding. I think she related well to the character that it was an effortless way of depicting the character. She played a young and as I look at it carefree attitude kind...

Translating as a second income
Advantages: well-paid and calm
Disadvantages: see opinion
...Judging by my clumsy style, you won’t be surprised to know that the degree I have reads: Artistic Translation from Spanish to Russian, prose and poetry.
Living outside Russia (and Spain), I certainly have very little future in particularly this profession. Notwithstanding, I have spent almost all my weekends for the last seven years translating restaurant menus, brochures, catalogues, contracts, private letters and all the other interminable stuff.
There are essentially two good things about translating: it’s considerably well-paid, and you are never out of work.
As in any job, some initial contacts are very useful, but even if you don’t have them, it’s quite easy to get employed via the Internet, in virtually any country.
The third good thing is a total lack of stress. Once you have learnt to...

I Think I Got Lost In Translation
Advantages: Superb Direction, Bill Murray
Disadvantages: The Script/story really lets it down
...Going to the cinema to see newly released films isn't something I generally do. The expense and effort never seem worth it. Something has to really capture my interest to make me want to see it. Lost in Translation did exactly that. I had read so many favourable reviews and had my friends urging me to see it. After my initial trepidation I finally gave in and paid my money.
When an actor’s career is over he’ll start to do desperate things for money. That’s where actor Bob Harris (Bill Murray) finds himself. He’s travelled to Japan for a couple of adverts but leaving his wife and Kids at home. He’s depressed, lonely and jetlagged, not exactly a winning combination for a happy stay. Meanwhile in another room Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) is in a similar state. Despite being in Japan with her husband...

Lost in Translation isn't lost on me
Advantages: Great script, acting, cinematography...
Disadvantages: ...
...With the free arrival of Film Four on the 23rd, I eagerly sat down to watch Lost in Translation, a film I have meant to see since it was in the cinema.
I am a fan of Bill Murray both as an actor and from what I know of him on a personal level and expected great things. I was right.
I am not a fan of Scarlett Johansson and although I had not seen her in any films but only in L'Oreal ads I was expecting a dull and wooden performance that would rely on Bill to pull her through. I was wrong.
Having read and then seen the Virgin Suicides which was directed by Sophia Coppola, I was expecting an edgy and emotional film that played heavily on the lives of the characters in a challenging and thought provoking way. I was right.
Genre: A hard one to pin point. A sarcastic drama with the tinniest hint of romance
Date of Release: 2003...

Lost in Translation - A beautiful, romantic drama
Advantages: Great characters, beautiful soundtrack, fantastic scenery
Disadvantages: None in my opinion
...I can't think of many films that I have seen in my lifetime that affected me as much as Lost in Translation did when I first saw it in cinemas way back when. I'm not sure exactly what aspect of the film it was that grabbed me, but Lost in Translation is a film with many beautiful qualities.
I also can't think of many films that have divided people so. If ever there was a Love/Hate film, it is this one. I remember the conversations clearly after seeing this film. "What did you make of it?", I would say. And each time I would either hear that the person had loved it, or despised it. I think it depends very much on what you look for in a film.
Lost in Translation isn't a quick fix film. It's not fast paced and it is not a typical Hollywood film. It is, however, a rewarding experience. Invest your time and attention in Lost in...

Lost in Translation
Advantages: Great direction & acting
Disadvantages: There aren't more films like it!
...Lost in Translation stars:
Bill Murray best known for his great comedy work (Groundhog Day, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Kingpin, Charlie?s Angels) as Bill Harris
Scarlet Johansson (Ghost World, Girl with a pearl earring) as Charlotte
and is both written and directed by Sofia Coppola (yes of THAT family pedigree).
The film is set completely in modern Tokyo, Japan and features an ageing American actor (Murray) going there to make a whisky ad for TV. His background is shown as a successful but flagging career of which he is visibly exhausted and a young wife left at home with their child who is obsessed with carpeting his study whilst he is away, but nowhere near obsessed with him. Johansson is the young bride of a rock photographer there snapping a Japanese band. He spends most of the time working whilst she sits bored in the hotel...

Not only and agency
Advantages: Great welcome, always happy to help, always only a call away, always there and on the case to find you work asap.
Disadvantages: none
...In my time I have tried all agencies, Adecco, Blue Arrow, Anne Jagger, Select, First Personal, the job centre and I have found out of all of them Brook Street have been the best, although I never got a placement through them the consultant I had was always trying his hardest to find me a joband whenever he arranged any interviews for me he always got me to come in so he could give me some interview advice and kind of interviewed me himself and gave me some feed back and really prepared me for my interviews. No other agency has gone this far for me. They all give you the details over the phone or via post.
Looking for work can be a stressful time and quite difficult, especially if you have to support yourself or a family. My tip is to register with as many agencies as possible let them know three important things which are the type...

Recruitment agencies
Advantages: Employers prefer them
Disadvantages: They lie
...I have tried most of them in my time, having had several periods of unemployment, and I cannot say I've ever encountered one I could trust.
They all come at you as the best, most caring, compassionate answer to your job-hunting prayers, and they are completely free to boot. Which ought to start alarm-bells ringing in these money-grubbing times. Of course they're free - to you, because you, the job-seeker (as we are expected to refer to ourselves now) are the fodder. The client is charged, though, and quite heavily, for your services, whereas you are paid at the minimum of - what is it now, following the latest Brownian orgasm of glad-handouts : £4.20 an hour? Agencies charge an average of £7.50 for you. Which most employers would rather pay than take you on full-time at £7 : because they can dump a temp in a moment, whereas there...

Translations
Advantages: Strong plot
Disadvantages: Too much for it's length
...Today I had an AS-Level English Literature, in which I had to write an essay on Brain Friel's "Translations", so I thought since it's still fresh in my mind, I should talk about the author and the book and share this.
The play "Translations" is set in 1833 Ireland in a village called Baile Beg, despite the fact it was written by Friel in 1980. This time gap allows the author to distance himself from the times and introduce humnour into what was a ominous time in Ireland with the continual threat of an oncoming potato blight, which audience will already be aware of, creating dramatic irony.
The play is set in a hedge school, an informal establishment which provides education for adults in Baile Beg. The schoolmaster, Hugh, appears to be the most authoritive figure here despite the fact his son, Manus, appears to be much more...
