...The London Transport Museum recently completed a large scale root and branch refurbishment and reopened towards the end of 2007. I know this because I walk past it every day on the way to work and could witness the inch by inch progress being made over the last year. The LT Museum always had a reputation as a good place to visit. One of the first museums to offer a wide range of interactive exhibits it has always been a popular attraction, enhanced by its excellent location. However, despite again working on its doorstep a dozen years ago I have never previously been tempted to visit. I mean, it's just a bunch of trains and buses isn't it and I see enough of those commuting. The South Yorkshire Transport Museum

Advantages: Nostalgic, Historical
Disadvantages: Admission Charges, Limited Opening Hours

...The South Yorkshire Transport Museum can be found at Aldwarke, near Rotherham in South Yorkshire. Until recently this Transport Museum was located in the former Tinsley Tram Sheds between Sheffield and Rotherham. I visited here about 4 years ago and it was then called the Sheffield Bus Museum. Now it has relocated, it has been given a new name, the South Yorkshire Transport Museum. The former Sheffield Bus Museum first opened its doors to the Public ten years ago, in 1997. In December 2006 this Museum closed, re-opening at its present location a few weeks ago, in the Spring of 2007. This Museum has a collection of Trams and Buses that were once in use in Sheffield and the surrounding area. All of these have been fully restored and are in pristine condition. A history of transport which failed to move me

Advantages: Great location, good gift shop, well-prepared but limited exhibits
Disadvantages: Quite small, limited range, expensive for adult travellers without children

...The London Transport Museum occupies a prime space in the heart of Covent Garden and is an attractive building that manages to remain true to the historical architecture of the surroundings, while achieving a certain degree of modern and functional design. We decided to pay a visit as my girlfriend was able to track down free corporate passes to visit this attraction that seemed like a good idea for an afternoon out in one of our favourite parts of London. Ticket prices were: adults £10; senior citizens £8; students £6.00 and children under 16 get in for free. This is a nice touch, as it means that this is obviously a perennially popular destination for families and rightly so, as the chance to experience the 'olde worlde' charm of London's historic mediums of transport will largely appeal to the little 'uns and adults...

Advantages: child friendly, something for most people
Disadvantages: fairly static collection, a few pointless audio visuals

For me, it was because there was nowhere more fascinating for a car-daft kid to go than a museum stuffed full of them. Excellent free day out.

Advantages: Free, kids and adults love it.
Disadvantages: never found any yet

...This is one of my favourite places to take the kids and they love it even though we must have visited it at least 30 times. Watch your kids faes fall when you say MUSEUM watch their faces gleam when they are there. GETTING THERE The transport museum is very accessable and is located across the road from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery (which is closed until June2006 for refurbishment) and is located directly behind the Kelvin Hall Sports Arena. If coming by car there is a huge amount of parking space with designated disabled spaces but note that there are hospitals and a university close by and a lot of the parking spaces are taken up by these people so it can get extremely busy. There is a cycle route that goes straight pass the main doors of the museum and a cycle parking place. Frequent bus services to and from the city centre...
