London Transport Museum
Advantages: Great place to take kids
Disadvantages: Not very big and a bit pricey for adults.
...The London Transport Museum recently completed a large scale root and branch refurbishment and reopened towards the end of 2007. I know this because I walk past it every day on the way to work and could witness the inch by inch progress being made over the last year.
The LT Museum always had a reputation as a good place to visit. One of the first museums to offer a wide range of interactive exhibits it has always been a popular attraction, enhanced by its excellent location. However, despite again working on its doorstep a dozen years ago I have never previously been tempted to visit. I mean, it's just a bunch of trains and buses isn't it and I see enough of those commuting. Having children has changed my attitude though, and when the opportunity came recently to have a family day out this was near the top of the list.

The South Yorkshire Transport Museum
Advantages: Nostalgic, Historical
Disadvantages: Admission Charges, Limited Opening Hours
...The South Yorkshire Transport Museum can be found at Aldwarke, near Rotherham in South Yorkshire. Until recently this Transport Museum was located in the former Tinsley Tram Sheds between Sheffield and Rotherham. I visited here about 4 years ago and it was then called the Sheffield Bus Museum. Now it has relocated, it has been given a new name, the South Yorkshire Transport Museum.
The former Sheffield Bus Museum first opened its doors to the Public ten years ago, in 1997. In December 2006 this Museum closed, re-opening at its present location a few weeks ago, in the Spring of 2007.
This Museum has a collection of Trams and Buses that were once in use in Sheffield and the surrounding area. All of these have been fully restored and are in pristine condition. Almost all of them are also in full working order and when the weather is...

A history of transport which failed to move me
Advantages: Great location, good gift shop, well-prepared but limited exhibits
Disadvantages: Quite small, limited range, expensive for adult travellers without children
...The London Transport Museum occupies a prime space in the heart of Covent Garden and is an attractive building that manages to remain true to the historical architecture of the surroundings, while achieving a certain degree of modern and functional design.
We decided to pay a visit as my girlfriend was able to track down free corporate passes to visit this attraction that seemed like a good idea for an afternoon out in one of our favourite parts of London.
Ticket prices were: adults £10; senior citizens £8; students £6.00 and children under 16 get in for free. This is a nice touch, as it means that this is obviously a perennially popular destination for families and rightly so, as the chance to experience the 'olde worlde' charm of London's historic mediums of transport will largely appeal to the little 'uns and adults...

Transport yourself back in time
Advantages: child friendly, something for most people
Disadvantages: fairly static collection, a few pointless audio visuals
...Transport is in my blood. My father was a bus driver and is obsessed by most things that have wheels and moves. Trains, buses, cars, and lorries, you name it he has videos, books and models of them. I've caught the bug and become a bit of a London Underground junkie being fascinated by the history and development of this much maligned transport system. I have become such a geek I recently took a one day course on the Art and Architecture of London Transport. This was held in the subject for this review, the newly reopened London Transport Museum in Covent Garden.
I have been to a number of Transport museum such as the tram museum at Critch and the Glasgow Transport Museum but the London one had so far eluded me. Housed in the old Victorian Ffower market the museum has had a 22.5 million face lift and relaunch. The museum is...

The London Transport Museum, good or bad?
Advantages: Educational. Find out loads about london transport history.
Disadvantages: Boring if your not interested in transport.
...Well i think the museum is very good, it focuses on how transport has developed over the years. The parts of the collection involve history of the tube, buses, trams and taxi's. It also shows in most of those topics how they are probably going to progress even further into the future.
..: Where Is It? :..
The museum is located in Central London in Covent Garden. It is missable though cos i didn't see it, but there is an underground sign outside with Museum written on it so you should find it quite easily.
..: What Are The Contents Of The Collection? :..
The museum is home to an old district line tube train which has got over a million miles on the milometer. A few trams from the early 90's which used to run on the Kingsway Underpass. Some buses that were pulled by horses in the 1800's and war-period. There is also a brand new...

A Complete History Of London Transport
Advantages: An evocative history of London Transport, some beautifully renovated vehicles
Disadvantages: Restricted access on the upper level
...scratch with comparitively primtive tools and methods, was necessarily gradual and problematic.
In an age now where the current Government cannot even construct a firm pedestrain bridge without farce, the concept of creating an entire subterranean transport network - covering the entire city and later reaching out beyond Central London - in the course of 20-30 years would be extremely remote to say the least. Yet that is precisely what was achieved in the first quarter of the 1900s.
The story of London Transport is retold and brought to life at its Museum in Covent Garden. An interactive exhibition featuring stunningly restored original vehicles and paraphenalia captures the essence of bygone eras and technology, while simultaneously looking at the role public transport will have in London's future.
From a personal point of view...

Transport Heaven
Advantages: Wide Variety Of Transport To Choose From
Disadvantages: Space Available
...The East Anglia Transport Museum is situated in Carlton Colville, Suffolk. It is a company limited by guarantee and all of the staff are volunteers (except contractors etc). The membership is very successful and there are a large number of members. Now for some specific information...

******************************************************
The East Anglia Transport Museum is the only museum in the country where you have the oppurtunity to travel on Trams, Trolleybuses and the Railway at the same time. On special events an external motorbus service is in operation. You can use this to travel to/from the museum or just to go for a ride!
Trams-There are three working trams at the moment - 159 from Blackpool, 474 from Amsterdam and 1858 from good old London (London is best!).
Trolleybuses-I am not really interested in...

Night at the Museum
Advantages: Great comedy and pure entertainment
Disadvantages: a little slow to begin.. but not for long though.
...Director: Shawn Levy
Producers: Shawn Levy and Stephen Sommers.
Writer: Milan Trenc, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon.
Stars: Ben Stiller, Carla Gugino, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, Jake Cherry, Charlie MurphyRami Malek, Pierfrancesco Favino,Ricky Gervais, Patrick Gallagher, Robin Williams and Kim Raver
Released in Late 2006 this comedy, (I believe is based on a 1993 novel by Milan Trenc), revolved around a Museum and its mystical effects on a night watchman.
**BRIEF PLOT**
In New York city's Museum of Natural History Lawrence 'Larry' Daley, (played by Ben Stiller) begins a job as a night watchman, mainly to gain the respect of his son Nick, (played by Jake Cherry).
Larry has had many dead end jobs in the passed, failing at all he tries, and is so terrified that Nick will prefer spending time with his...

Sometimes you don't have to grow up
Advantages: Free and fascinating
Disadvantages: Parking is a nuisance (ironically enough)
...Ah, the Transport Museum. As someone who grew up just outside Glasgow, this has always held special significance for my family. For me, it was because there was nowhere more fascinating for a car-daft kid to go than a museum stuffed full of them. For my parents, it was because the promise of a visit to the Transport Museum was a stick-on certainty to make me behave myself.
Back in those days (and we're talking 20+ years now), we would visit the museum a couple of times a year. It was located about oh, half a mile from its current home at the Kelvin Hall, in a long, low building that in hindsight didn't really have enough room to show off the various cars, motorbikes, bicycles, trains etc properly. But that didn't matter, as there was always plenty to see, and always something you'd forgotten about from your last visit and were...

Excellent free day out.
Advantages: Free, kids and adults love it.
Disadvantages: never found any yet
...This is one of my favourite places to take the kids and they love it even though we must have visited it at least 30 times. Watch your kids faes fall when you say MUSEUM watch their faces gleam when they are there.
GETTING THERE
The transport museum is very accessable and is located across the road from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery (which is closed until June2006 for refurbishment) and is located directly behind the Kelvin Hall Sports Arena. If coming by car there is a huge amount of parking space with designated disabled spaces but note that there are hospitals and a university close by and a lot of the parking spaces are taken up by these people so it can get extremely busy. There is a cycle route that goes straight pass the main doors of the museum and a cycle parking place. Frequent bus services to and from the city centre...
