A Fishy Day Out In The Lake District.

Advantages: Interesting and interactive displays, fab outdoor facilities, good ticket prices
Disadvantages: Can get a bit squished. Won't be able to spend the whole day here

...I'm always on the lookout for days out in my local area, that aren't going to break the bank. I have 2 children with an 8 year age gap, so finding something that appeals to both has become increasingly difficult! The Lake District Coast Aquarium has become a favourite attraction, and one we have visited annually for the last 4 years. Situated on the West Cumbrian Coast, the Solway Estuary and with the Lake district just a stones throw away, Maryport is home to the Lake District Coast Aquarium. The aquarium, now 12 years old, houses a wide and varied exhibition of river and marine life from the local area and is easily accessible from Keswick, Penrith, and Carlisle by car, train or bus. Best holiday accommodation in the Lake District

Advantages: Location and scenery and activities
Disadvantages: Having to take your own towels

...camp shop selling a few items and tins, although for food, I would suggest going to a local supermarket - when I say local the nearest one is about 10 miles away, although there is a local village shop and post office at Patterdale which is approximately 3 miles away. The nearest petrol station is 3 miles away, and the nearest servicetill is roughly 9 miles away. Basically, the area is ideal for walking, but if you want to go to any shops or other attractions, you need a car. The campsite however, does have a Lake District pub called the Brotherswater Inn, which is open all day every day, catering mainly for climbers, ramblers and passing trade. I believe that the Inn has been recently refurbished and the seating is comfortable and is ideal to sit outside with a pint taking in the breath taking scenery before walking back to the cottage...

Furzton Lake Premier Travel Inn

Advantages: Value for money, romantic scenery
Disadvantages: Service in the pub

...a lovely view of Furzton Lake (which you can walk around) and a nice little water feature just outside of the hotel itself. We also discovered that we had a balcony on our room! The door was locked, but presumably you could contact reception to open it. There was also information about room service from the adjoining pub, which had a two for one offer on. We opted to go to the pub and take advantage of the good prices. £15 for two side orders and 2 main courses. The service wasn't brilliant, but they were busy. The pub had a nice outdoor decking area to sit and eat, which would be lovely in the summer - especially with the views of the lake and all the lovely grassy areas surrounding it too. All in all the hotel was very good for value, decent sized and clean rooms. If you want a romantic hotel with a short taxi journey to some where to go out...

Lake Louise Inn

Advantages: Beautiful Location, Amazing skiing!
Disadvantages: Mayhem, Absolute mayhem

...When we first arrived at Lake Louise Inn we immediately got an impression of the mayhem that would follow... We arrived late at night, and due to some confusion with an upgrade we had made were sent to the wrong room by a bemused night porter. There were five of us- the room we were sent to had only two beds...? Two of our party returned to reception to try to sort out the problem whilst the other three of us huddled in the doorway of the wrong room trying to escape the freezing conditions. Whilst waiting we got talking to a young Canadian man who had got locked out of his room in just a t-shirt and trousers. He was on a business trip and his door lock (card-reader) had malfunctioned and all his work was locked inside. The night security guards attempt to solve the problem did not fill us with confidence about our own problems...

Why the Lake District is the place to go...

Advantages: Great mountains, great scenery...
Disadvantages: Rains quite a bit

...with other mountains they make one hell of a day out. Another advantage that the Lake District has over Scotland is that Scotland, one often feels, is too remote and you feel like your lost in a wilderness with civilization millions of miles away (some people though like that feeling and all credit too them), but at least with the Lake District it is a more homely and comforting environment, especially as you look out over the lights of Keswick as you descend the mountain tops in darkness after a long day's walk. The place to stay for accomodation if you love mountain grandeur all around you is therefore Wasdale Head, whether you choose to camp or to stay in the Wasdale Head inn is up to you, but I've never stayed at that inn so I can't recommend it - although the food is quite good. Very big portions which are good after a long and ardous day...

...The Lake District, for those with no sense of geography, is in the far North-West of England. It is home to the highest mountain in England, Scafell, several thousand lakes, a further 3 mountains over 3,000 feet, several high passes, and several million sheep (though this number is declining somewhat). It is a National Park, and there are several National Trust properties and areas within the park. What To Do Amazingly, the most common pastime in the Lake District is walking. There must be several million miles of footpaths around the Lakes, and are serviced by a good selection of car parks (for circular routes) and public transport in the form of boats and buses, or taxis,(for non-circular routes). These are inexpensive. I recommend routes around Derwentwater in Borrowdale, as access is good, and there is Keswick to look around...

Fairfield Inn, Lake Buena Vista - Bring your ear plugs!

Advantages: Clean, tidy hotel with excellent service from staff
Disadvantages: Noisy hotel near a busy motorway, not enough seats at breakfast

...Having previously stayed at The Farifield Inn near International Drive in Orlando, we had hoped that this hotel would be as equally as good. We stayed this time at the 'Fairfield Inn' at Lake Buena Vista. On first impressions things were fine, staff were extremely helpful, polite and friendly, the reception area was large, welcoming and well decorated. The pool area was nice, clean and towels supplied. Rooms were equally well decorated. Then came time to sleep!! After 2 days I surrendered and went and bought ear plugs to drown out the all night noise from the near by motorway. Windows were single glazed and the motorway extremely busy. Granted it was a busy time of year during the holidays but the motorway caused even more problems - each day we would jump in the car eager to visit one of the many fantastic florida attractions...
