...I search the Internet a few weeks ago for on line travel insurance because I was on a business trip to Europe... I looked at at least half a dozen companies but www.endsleigh.co.uk came up trumps with comprehensive cover in Europe for 6 days at around £16...not bad at all considering all their ' extras' a policy worth paying for.. two weeks ago upon my return fromEurope I booked a flight to Florida with BA and decided to give Endsleigh an other chance for a quote..for 18 Days insurance Worldwide on a fully Comprehensive basis the price was £45 excllent really, considering the inferior insurance offered by some travel comapnies at nearly twice the price....it really does pay to shop around... I realise that I could have paid for an annual policy but I preferred to go for this one off World Wide Policy... I have no idea what...

...Direct Travel Insurance - Avoid! My wife, Jill, was diagnosed with breast cancer on August 29, 2008. We had our holiday booked for September 8 so I asked Direct Travel Insurance for a claim form. The form arrived from AIG around September 3. AIG are the company Direct Travel Use to process their claims. It had four pages of A4. Three to be filled in by me and one by Jill's doctor. OK so far. After lot's of ink and £25 for the doctor, I returned the forms a couple of days later. The form signed by the doctor stated that Jill had a hospital appointment for the day we were due to fly. Despite this, AIG continued to turn awful into horror. After about three weeks a letter arrived from AIG asking for the tickets. ...Travel insurance is one of those things to which most of us give little or any thought. A former colleague flew to America without travel insurance and contracted gastro-enteritis. He didn't seek medical assistance because it is so expensive in America and it really spoiled his holiday. Compared to some he was lucky. Essential Travel holiday insurance - don't buy

Advantages: They make it easy to buy Essential Travel insurance.
Disadvantages: They make it so difficult to claim that your insurance is as good as worthless.

...Essential Travel initially look good, its a competitive price and they make it very easy to puchase this on-line, however when you come to claim they make it so difficult that your insurance policy is practically worth less. First tactic - (if you ring up first) they tell you that you are not covered by the insurance policy you took out with them and will be unable to claim. This puts most people off - but for those that persevere and read the lengthy policy document properly, find that they can in fact claim. Second tactic, when you do put in a claim they keep demanding more and more documentation before they will pay up. Receipts are not enough, you then need letters from the companies as well. I even recommended this insurance to my in-laws who are in their 60's and 70's and were struggling to find an insurance that didnt cost as much or more than the cost of their trip to the USA, and they arranged insurance although because of their age was slighly higher but still only about £20-25 more than ours. I really believe that you would be hard pushed to find a better deal than this. The only drawback for us is that the kids are only covered if they travel with us - if they travel alone they would have to have insurance of their own. I have had the misfortune of trying to claim for cancellation of my holiday in August 08 due to the sudden death of my father who was fit and playing table tennis in a league match when he died. The trauma has been made worse by the company which deals with the NATWEST travel insurance - IGCS: Inter Group Claims Services. They have tried every avenue to find a way not to pay out and made things extremely difficult by demanding letters from my father's GP to give details of his medical condition. To cut long story short, they have turned down my claim since they state that he was in hospital within the last 12 months (in fact he was in hospital in June 07, 14 months before he died but they are saying from when we booked the hol. which was January 08). ...I have just booked our Travel Insurance over the Internet again this year and have found that Norwich Union Insurance have the cheapest in money and best cover. They cover you for 10 million Medical Cover etc as does every other company so they aren't skimping on anything by offering cheaper Insurance. By ordering the Insurance over the Internet you also save 10% and it is really easy. All you need is the amount of people travelling, dates of travel and whether it is Europe, UK etc. For myself, my husband and a 3 year old daughter it was priced up at £38.25 and that was a saving of around £25 off some Insurance quotes that I received. Direct Line were very expensive as were HSBC but the policy by HSBC was a very good one....
