Ciao Bella! - The Best of Rome
Advantages: A lifetime of sights to see, excellent transport, amazing ice cream
Disadvantages: Very busy
...Virgin Mary worthy of Father Ted, to a huge range of serious religious books, and icons. I bought a St. Christopher pendent for just 20p.
After leaving the museum, we were in desparate need of ice cream. Aspying a small stall opposite the exit, packed with nuns, who are a good indicator of quality gelati, we headed over to discover the best ice-cream in Rome. We picked a £1.50 cone and the vendor kept piling on flavours of our choice, until we were wielding huge clubs of the stuff, and it was delicious.
Night time ice cream by the Trevi Fountain: Ice cream featured heavily in my holiday, and generally revolved around this beautiful square after dinner where there are several parlours to chose from. The tiny square is packed at night, but not just by tourists. The Italians eat, drink and sleep late, and everyone seems to congregate...

Rome, a wonder of the ancient world, ...and very expensive
Advantages: Beautiful City, lots of English speaking Italians, good food and excellent wine
Disadvantages: Highly overpriced and expensive, not good with the current economic climate
...love art, history and good food and wine, Italy is a wondeful place to visit on holiday. I give Rome on a four day visit 4 out of 5.

Amazing Rome
Advantages: History, lots of things too see and so, food, amazing museums, Gelato
Disadvantages: Too much to see, crowded around major sight, fear of being pickpocketed
...into the Trevi fountain to ensure my return to Rome one day because Rome is certainly worth a second and third visit. The Norwegian author Henrik Ibsen wrote some of his pieces in Rome and he said that you need at least three lifetimes to see Rome :-) The next time we visit I hope that we will get time to take the Scavi tour (excavations of the Necropolis (City of the Dead) beneath St. Peter's), look at the view from the dome of St. Peter's, maybe go to Ostia near the coast etc. So my final recommendation: if you are going to Italy stay as long as you can in Rome?you won't run out of things to see and do :-)
I hope that you found this trip report useful please give me feedback if I have made mistakes or if you just have comments or questions. I can be reached on gardkarlsen@hotmail.com....

Keep Rome Tidy. Kill A Tourist.
Advantages: It's Bella Roma. Lots to do, great food, fantastic weather.
Disadvantages: Tons of tourists, the loos everywhere and the money "problems"
...was time to head south, to Bella Roma. Rome has two airports, and we used the less-interesting of the two, Ciampino. Still, when you only pay 1 cent plus taxes for a flight, you can?t be picky. Both airports have shuttle busses and taxis available (typical fare 50 Euros one way to/from the city centre), so getting into town?s not a problem. Neither?s getting around once you?re there. Head to a metro station, and buy a B.I.G ticket. Less than 2 quid, and it gives you unlimited travel on busses, trams and the underground for 24 hours. Bargain. The guide books tell you not to use the Metro (Metropolitan Roma) because it?s more for getting people into the city than across it, but give it a go, especially if your hotel?s near a stop. Quicker than busses, and simpler to navigate, plus you ALWAYS know where you are because they announce it ? none...

Rome-The Eternal City
Advantages: Beautiful city.Wonderful architecture and monuments
Disadvantages: So much to see and do. Expensive
...There is so much to see and do in Rome that knowing where to start becomes something of a real Roman dilemma. In this fascinating city you can stumble across history at every step and major attractions are so many and so widely dispersed that it is not possible to see them all, if you are on a short visit. It is best to focus your attention on a limited aspect - say the prime attractions in the Vatican, Archaeological Rome and Monumental Rome - and allow at least a day for each. If you have time to spare after that a trip to the leafy areas of northern Rome such as the Villa Borghese, the largest park in Rome, is an interesting foray, as would be a brief visit to the spa town of Fiuggi, about one hour's journey from the city centre.
The Vatican area across the Tiber, directly west of downtown Rome, is reached by subway A line, get...

A short guide to Rome
Advantages: Sites, food and culture
Disadvantages: Noise, crime and its too busy
...lunch as you get a good view of modern Roman life. You must watch out for street hawkers who will pester you if you seem like a tourist with more money then sense ( your reviewer was hounded by them). Also you should aim to visit the room that Keats rented before he died, if you are into poetry. The Trevi fountains should really be viewed at night over dinner. The lights come on and the atmosphere is incredible. There is a restraunt right next to it, but be warned of the high cost, 65 Euros for two. But deffinetly worth it.
Top tips
Travel: Rome is serviced by an extensive network of buses and trains. Most convient is their tube which is incredibly cheap. Only 1 Euro will buy you 75 minuets of traveling, making it far cheaper then London. Also most major sites are located within walking distance of the metro. But you should deffinetly...

Beautiful Rome
Advantages: History, sites, weather, food, culture
Disadvantages: Fear of pickpockets, busy, traffic
...I have just returned from a trip to Rome. The weather was lovely - cool and sunny. It was due to needing a good breat! My travels are kept to a minimum right now, for financial reasons. I simply can't afford to gallivant all over the world right now. Therefore, I get very comfy in my little town.
I want to see the world. It is one of my biggest passions, the ability to travel and see the world. So last month, utterly fed up of my hometown, my current life and situation, my friend and I decided to take a trip. The thought of escaping for a week was a fantastic though.
On the day of departure, however, my friend got sick - a nasty chest infection rendered her incapable to travel. The trip would now take on a new meaning. There would be no hilarity, no laughs at the new culture, and no companionship. I would be hurtled into the bosom...

Roman Holiday
Advantages: It has everything!
Disadvantages: Can get stuffy and full of tourists in the summer!
...Everyone has preconceptions of Rome before they see her. Maybe visions of ancient Rome, or the Catholic Church, maybe the whizzing vespas around the Colosseum, but through whatever means, she is a city which has made her mark on the consciousness of Western Civilisation, through fair means or foul, and for all the expectations one has of Rome, she doesn't disappoint.
I am lucky to be able to visit Rome both frequently and regularly, but each time I return, I find something new, something surprising and even something magical about Italy's capital city.
There are so many things to see and do, and this isn't an attempt to list them all. A guidebook is able to do that much better, and a guidebook is vital for Rome, because she is her history, to a large extent.
As Florence is the epicentre of renaissance culture, so Rome...

Rome, Venice and Elba Diary
Advantages: So much to see, beautiful weather, lovely food
Disadvantages: not much lush green grash in the summer!
...This review will take the form of the diary/journal of my trip to Rome, Venice and Elba Island. Hopefully, it can provide you with both an idea for a trip and some useful information about the city.
Day 1
Flight from Luton to Rome. With Ryanair, pretty good value, came to about £30 including taxes, although it did leave at 7 in the morning, which is a pretty ungodly hour to have to get to the airport for. Arrival at Rome Ciampino, the airport is pretty small but the arrivals hall has enough of the usual car rental stands and bus stands to be useful. I got to Rome Termini, the main station, with the Teravision coach service. It costs 8euros one way and leaves every 15mins. Its very convienent and, if its summer, the airconditioning is welcome! Upon arrival at Termini, I caught the Metro line B to Piazza Bologna where I was staying...

Early February Spent Wrapped up in Rome.
Advantages: So many amazing sights to discover, a truly wonderful city.
Disadvantages: Tired feet and too much traffic
...of Rome.
As we were flying Ryan Air, this wasn?t as easy as it may sound because they only allow you to check in 15kg of luggage (and 10kg of hand luggage), which is a bit of a problem for a person who likes to pack for every eventuality, but after a bit of careful rearranging, I headed for the airport feeling confident that I was prepared for the most common holiday problems, and, more importantly, would actually be allowed to board the plane.
Getting Around
We touched down at Ciampino Airport (the smaller of the two airports in Rome) several hours later, and as it was late, decided to get a taxi to our hotel, which was situated close to the Termini in central Rome. This cost us just over ?40, which was expensive but at that time of night was well worth it. During the day however, it is far more reasonable to get the bus to the metro...
