Lovely Liverpool Lodgings!

Advantages: Clean comfortable, cheap, good location
Disadvantages: poor selection of drinks in bar, low standard of service

...Hotel Campanile (a French chain) is now well established as a chain throughout the United Kingdom so when I was looking for a room at quite short notice in Liverpool I did not hesitate to reserve one here despite the fact that I had never stayed in one before. Of the chain hotels which came up when I searched on the internet, this was the cheapest and the excellent location meant that I did not have to compromise. The main shopping area is just a few minutes away and tourist attractions such as The Beatles Story, the Tate Liverpool and The Albert Dock are practically on the door-step. The Liverpool hotel is situated well-back from the main road which stretches along the rejuvenated docks area of the city. This means that you have the convenience of the location without any of the traffic noise. We arrived in the city by train...

A Pleasent Stay at Travel Inn, Liverpool.

Advantages: None that were great
Disadvantages: Not everyone got a bed.

...We booked to stay at this hotel as we were going to Liverpool to catch a ferry very early in the morning. We had heard about how popular and how many of these hotels there were so we chose this hotel because of this. Like everything nowadays, we booked online. We found their website easy to navigate and booking a room was simple. We had no problems when booking. We did call up the hotel a few days before our journey, to make sure our booking had gone through, and it did. On our arrival, we parked our car in the free car park which was very close to the hotel. There were plenty of car spaces, so we had nothing to worry about there. On arrival at the hotel entrance, we were at the reception desk with a member of staff and the desk. We told her who we were and showed her a print out of our booking that we had printed at home. She...

Travel Lodge, Slough

Advantages: location
Disadvantages: basic

...Staying at the Travel Lodge in Slough is a good option if you have to stay overnight after a long flight and don?t want to pay through the nose for hotels in the Heathrow airport area. Slough is also close to Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures. We stayed at the Travel Lodge in June, 2002. The double room we had was basic, but we didn?t expect anything else for 50 pounds a night. Our room wasn?t facing a busy road so that was a bonus. What we had was a double bed (with a duvet), a desk and chair, telephone, hairdryer, tea/coffee-making facilities, TV without a remote control for some reason. The bathroom with shower was fairly clean. Breakfast was OK, full English or continental. There?s a bar with a TV next to the dining-room, so we could enjoy our breakfast and watch the recent football match at the same time. We...

Arebbusch Travel Lodge

Advantages: Ideal base in Windhoek, very easy access to the centre of town, lovely chalets and friendly service. Campsites can be dusty, but plenty of shade.
Disadvantages: Busy road outside the gates, but you can't have everything!

...South of the city, but within easy distance to the centre of Windhoek, this charming travel lodge is an ideal base for both families and independent travellers. We much preferred here to anywhere in the centre of town, mainly due to being able to come through the manned gates and shut ourselves away in our lovely chalet. These are clean, spacious and quiet, the kitchens are moderate, but the showers are a godsend. And a double bed goes down a treat after weeks of camping! The staff are friendly and professional in reception and the restaurant . Be patient with Namibian time however - it's far slower than anywhere back in the UK and anyway, why rush in a country of such awesome landscapes - things will get done and happen....eventually! I have also camped here and found the sites lovely, as anywhere in Namibia they can get...

Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

...CASTLE LODGE It was a family day out in Ludlow and whilst I was sitting resting on the bench, waiting for my hubby to return from checking the car and the parking fees, I noticed this really old Tudor style house opposite and on closer inspection discovered that it was open to the public. We didn?t go in straight away, but I did drop a big hint like, ?I want to go in there before we go home? to the family, so that they would not be surprised after the visit to the castle that we went in here. After we had a lovely lunch in the café situated next door to the lodge after a amazing trip around the castle. We were all in high spirits and enjoying our food and refreshments, I dropped the bombshell that I wanted to see the house, they did try to dissuade me as they were now getting slightly tired and wanted to do a little retail...

Odeon - Liverpool's Number One

Advantages: Good sized screens, great auditoriums, caters for everyone,
Disadvantages: Popcorn sometimes cardboardy, expensive chocolate treats,

...I am a huge cinema fan, and living in the centre of Birmingham for the last couple of years has meant putting up with Odeon Birmingham. Needless to say, I was very happy to discover the brand spanking new Odeon in Liverpool One, Odeon Liverpool One Odeon is actually the largest cinema chain in the UK, created by Oscar Deutsch in 1928. Some say that the name comes from Ancient Greek, others say that it comes from the motto Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation. There are currently... a lot of Odeon cinemas across the UK (I tried to count, but it's a lot!). The website has a cinema finder to help you locate your nearest. For this review I shall be talking about Odeon, Liverpool ONE. When Liverpool ONE was redeveloped, the city centre Odeon branch was relocated here. The entrance can be found...

Lovely lodges and amazing hot tubs!

Advantages: Nice lodges, fantastic hot tubs!
Disadvantages: Surrounding area not so good

...at the supermarket and cooked it in the lodge. This was the only downside to our stay, as it is nice to stay somewhere where there are some nice pub-restaurants or places to eat which are not too far away or within walking distance, but to be honest it did look a little run down. So bear in mind you do have to travel a little further afield to Musselburgh to find some decent restaurants and bars. We did also drive to Edinburgh and had a lovely day there, but to be honest we were quite happy spending our evenings in the lodge, and the hot tub! I had to drag myself out of it as it was so relaxing! I would recommend Drummohr as a good place to visit for a short break to chill out and relax, and would go back again. It's just a shame the surrounding area isn't as nice, but it didn't bother us too much as we still had a lovely, quiet relaxing break...

Disney's Wilderness Lodge: Welcome Home

Advantages: A hotel brimming with personality and themed to perfection
Disadvantages: Expensive. But you get what you pay for.

...of staff in the hotel seems to have been touched by that famous Disney attitude. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and I cannot give them enough praise. The hotel oozes that unique mix of fun, imagination and sophistication that can only be found in a Disney hotel. THE ROOMS The facts will tell you that Wilderness Lodge has 728 rooms in total, including a separate building built in 2002 called the Wilderness Lodge Villas, offering studios and one and two bedroom apartments as part of the Disney Vacation Club Scheme. There is a good variety of different types of rooms depending on your individual needs (e.g. travelling as a couple or with a family), all decorated in the same charming Pacific Northwest theme as the rest of the hotel. All rooms offer the amenities that you would expect (television, hairdryer, safe, and so on...

Once upon a time, in Liverpool...

Advantages: An excellent museum dedicated to the Fab Four, suitable for all age groups
Disadvantages: Some of the headsets are a bit dodgy (it was just mine) and some displays not working

...This time during the month of Beatlemania, instead of just writing about the bands albums, films and death theories, I wanted to write about some of the ways in which Liverpool still celebrate the lives of their favourite sons (beside the football players!). Although Ringo made a few disparaging comments towards his hometown a year or two ago, the phrase ?everyone has to start somewhere? springs to mind and ? although I may be a little bias ? I would have to say that Liverpool is very much the land of opportunity compared to where I live! Right at the heart of the city is Albert Dock, a place now surrounded by various shops, museums and even a hotel with the Echo Arena mere feet away. When I was very little, perhaps six, I remember Mummy and Daddy, as they were affectionately called back then, taking my Brother and I right near...

For a bargain night !

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...As this week is half term we decided to drive to Manchester to visit relatives. Unfortunately our relatives don?t have space to allow us to stay overnight so I set about looking for somewhere reasonable to stay. I knew we wouldn?t be spending much time in our hotel so I really only wanted somewhere comfortable to sleep. Looking through my emails I was interested to read one from the Martin Lewis money saving site(see my earlier review for more info) telling me that Travel lodge would be offering rooms for just£10 the next day. I got up early to visit the Travel lodge site. The site was very easy to navigate and a selection of £10 rooms was indeed on offer in and around Manchester. I choose to stay at the Manchester airport Travel lodge as this was the most conveniently placed for our visit. The total cost for a family room sleeping...
