London Docklands- Very High standards
Review of Travel Lodge, Docklands Hotel, London by  CRAFTYDONNA

Advantages: Tube station 1 min walk away
Disadvantages: Difficult to find

...---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel: This Travel lodge is very handy for exploring the city of London as its only 4 minutes away by car or a short train trip. The hotel is very isolated as your surrounded by mostly office buildings. So very limited if you fancy a night time stroll. The hotel has a bar cafe, we used this in the evenings and had plenty of choice. The light snack meals are a good deal, see tables for latest deals. We had the nachos and cheese for £3.99 and this was plenty enough for 2 people. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rooms: The bedrooms are very clean and provided plenty of room for a family. All rooms come with a TV/SAT , TEA/COFFEE MAKING, HAIRDRYER, PHONE, ROOM SERVICE. Ask for room... Read review

Premier Travel Inn Southwark - London
Review of Premier Travel Inn London - Southwark, London by  inycon2

Advantages: Excellent value, location
Disadvantages: Basic hotel

...featuring Southwark Cathedral - Shakespearean times. The Globe theatre is five minutes walk from the hotel and the Golden Hind nearby and Vinopolis - wine tasting and restaurant - opposite. The whole area, which includes the well-known Borough Market, is very atmospheric and you can easily imagine yourself back in old London. The Anchor Inn adjacent to the hotel is where Samuel Peeps sat to watch the Great Fire of London. It's one of the oldest pubs in the area and is used to serve breakfast to hotel guests in the morning. We had a full cooked breakfast, which was delicious and set us up for the day - didn't need lunch! The hotel itself was pretty standard with 56 rooms, perhaps one step up from a Travel Lodge. The rooms here were large, clean and had a kingsize bed. We had a quiet room on the top floor which had air conditioning... Read review

Travel Lodge, Slough
Review of Travel Lodge, Slough by  Yelena

Advantages: location
Disadvantages: basic

...Staying at the Travel Lodge in Slough is a good option if you have to stay overnight after a long flight and don’t want to pay through the nose for hotels in the Heathrow airport area. Slough is also close to Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures. We stayed at the Travel Lodge in June, 2002. The double room we had was basic, but we didn’t expect anything else for 50 pounds a night. Our room wasn’t facing a busy road so that was a bonus. What we had was a double bed (with a duvet), a desk and chair, telephone, hairdryer, tea/coffee-making facilities, TV without a remote control for some reason. The bathroom with shower was fairly clean. Breakfast was OK, full English or continental. There’s a bar with a TV next to the dining-room, so we could enjoy our breakfast and watch the recent football match at the same time. We... Read review

Arebbusch Travel Lodge
Review of Arebbusch Travel Lodge , Windhoek by  artebeest

Advantages: Ideal base in Windhoek, very easy access to the centre of town, lovely chalets and friendly service. Campsites can be dusty, but plenty of shade.
Disadvantages: Busy road outside the gates, but you can't have everything!

...South of the city, but within easy distance to the centre of Windhoek, this charming travel lodge is an ideal base for both families and independent travellers. We much preferred here to anywhere in the centre of town, mainly due to being able to come through the manned gates and shut ourselves away in our lovely chalet. These are clean, spacious and quiet, the kitchens are moderate, but the showers are a godsend. And a double bed goes down a treat after weeks of camping! The staff are friendly and professional in reception and the restaurant . Be patient with Namibian time however - it's far slower than anywhere back in the UK and anyway, why rush in a country of such awesome landscapes - things will get done and happen....eventually! I have also camped here and found the sites lovely, as anywhere in Namibia they can get... Read review

Let Me Lodge A Complaint, Mr Lodge!
Review of Out of the Shelter - David Lodge by  MALU

Advantages: the story proper
Disadvantages: the afterword

...that the differences aren't really so great, but know that there's the one insurmountable difference between the culprits and the victims. As I've said, I don't know war, but I remember the post-war years vividly, I lived in Dresden for a year, my playground were the ruins surrounding our house, so I am touched. The book was first published in 1970, then 'Coming Out' didn't have the meaning it has today. 16-year-old Timothy leaves his lower-middle-class-London-suburban (Lodge's words), Catholic, prudish home for Germany to visit his aunt in Heidelberg. He's frightened out of his wits, so far he's spent all his holidays with his parents in a place called Worthing. The description of the journey is a good read; my first trip to England comes to my mind, I was 18 and didn't know the language well, I was afraid, too, but not as much as Timothy, I had... Vaguely London Without Vaguely London Prices
Review of Premier Travel Inn Enfield, London by  zoe_page

Advantages: Neat, clean, comfortable, basic place to stay. Good breakfasts.
Disadvantages: Breakfast extra from price, in the middle of nowhere

...and amenities. As a glorified motel it gets the job done well. There are no swimming pools or shops or room service offers, but it is certainly a clean, modern, solid hotel for when you just need somewhere to lay your head for the night, and comes complete with a huge free carpark which is just what you need when you have students driving big minibusses. At around £53 per room it is cheap for a family of 4 and not too bad for a couple given its proximity to London, but for that price, given it's location in England rather than America, I have to dock a star for them not including breakfast. I don't think you'd go out of your way to stop here, but if you were passing around bedtime, or knew you were needing an overnight in this area of the country, I would recommend it to you. Nicer than Days Inn and Travel Lodges, I'd say it probably does earn... Read review

The Innkeeper's Lodge, Slough
Review of Innkeepers Lodge, Slough/Windsor by  pmdunn

Advantages: Clean, comfortable, unfussy, economical
Disadvantages: Under the Heathrow flight path so can be a little noisy at times

...are dining alone so you are not left to feel isolated as in some establishments. Breakfast is provided in the main carvery and is a self-service affair with a good selection of fruit, juices, cereals, toast/croissants, yoghurts, tea and coffee. Complimentary newspapers are also available. The close proximity of the Innkeepers Lodge to both the M4 (you can see the roundabout on Junction 5 from the car park) and the M25 (one junction down on the M4) and to most forms of public transport (there is a bus stop outside the Carvery and Langley Train Station (on the mainline to Paddington) is only 1.5 miles down the road, though for quick access to London it is better to travel into Slough (only 2 miles or 15 minutes by bus) to catch the fast train from Slough Station (only 15 minutes to Paddington) There is a regular bus service to and from... London in Bits and Bobs
Review of London (England) by  BawBaw

Advantages: One of the world's great cosmopolitan centers
Disadvantages: So much city . . . so little time

...a nightmare, with even the buses sometimes held to a standstill. For Americans, add driving on "the wrong side of the road" and you have a ample incentive to stick to public transport. In addition, these days drivers of vehicles not registered to a London neighborhood will find themselves smacked with a hefty daily commuters' tax. •••Getting There••• Most international visitors traveling to London arrive by plane, though the train is also an option, especially for travelers from the Continent. Heathrow, just west of the city, and Gatwick, to the south, are the principal airports. Stansted, north of London, is mostly for travel within the UK, though it also facilitates international travel. From any of these airports, lodgings in London can be accessed by cab, airport shuttle, or public transportation... Read review

More of a Championship Travel Inn.
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Premier Lodge by  buzzard_cad

Advantages: Good sized rooms, available throughout the UK
Disadvantages: Variable service, you pay for the room and not the number of beds, poor heating and cooling controls in the rooms

...~Summary~ If you need somewhere to stay for a short period than you could try out Premier Travel Inn, they have a good coverage in the UK and rooms are available at short notice even in peak season. The service is sporadic throughout the country, but in my experience you will get better service the further north you go. The heating available in the hotels is okay, but the rooms can be cool in the winter and too warm in the summer. ~Introduction~ Premier Travel Inn (formerly known as 'Premier Lodge' and 'Travel Inn') is a chain of hotels across the UK normally based in and around metropolitan centres, but equally found in other places just off the nearest main road. There are currently 464 hotels available with 15 in Wales, 49 in Scotland and the rest in England. They are easily spotted as they have a big purple sign with 'Premier... Read review

Premier Travel Inn, London Docklands
Review of Premier Travel Inn London - Docklands (ExCel),, London by  hackerjack

Advantages: Good rooms and service
Disadvantages: Quite remote

...This is a step above most of the premier travell inns I have stayed at previously. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, dealing easily with around 20 of us arriving at once in less than half an hour. The rooms are fairly standar from PTIs, which on the whole is good all round. The bathrooms are especially nice with large baths (useful for us of the larger persuation) and everything laid out nicely. The cafe/resteraunt/bar area is nice and comfortable, definately better than most of them. the availability of a pool table and awell stoked bar was a nice addition over most hotels of this type. Breakfast was well stocked and of high quality all round. The hotel itself is quite remote to look at, but is within a few minutes walk of the Excel centre (which dominates the skyline), a very nice chinese resteraunt... Read review
