Advantages: Convenient Location, Reasonable Costs, Clean
Disadvantages: No in house restaurant

...As I prepare for my trip to New York this upcoming week I decided to review the previous hotel that I stayed in for a long weekend in November back in 2003, The Travel Inn. I was not originally meant to be staying at the Travel Inn as I had booked the four of us into the Hotel Newton which was located on 2528 Broadway and had a 1 star rating and at the time I did not realise how far this hotel was located from the Times Square area, and on arrival we were all beginning to worry about the distance to all the tourist facilities. On this occasion we were lucky, due to problems with existing guests we arrived at the hotel to check-in only to be told that there was no room and we were being transferred to a better hotel in a better location......BRILLIANT!! The Travel Inn was our next location and the Hotel Newton even paid for us...

York Minster-the heart and soul of York

Advantages: magnificent architecture reflecting over a thousand years of history and religion.
Disadvantages: none that I can see.

...impressed with the beauty of the Minster, in particular the windows I mentioned earlier, the Screen and the Nave. In my inexperienced opinion York Minster and Westminster Abbey are of equal magnificence. However when I was there in the late night I came across the visit of the Relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux. Mingling with the thousand visitors and pilgrims in the spacious and bright palace I was really fascinated by the power of religion. It became the clearest memory of my trip to the Minster and the city of York. Summary: A vital medieval cathedral strongly impressed me. PS. York Minster

Advantages: Size And Amazing Architecture
Disadvantages: Foundations where a bit scary for me

...I love york and whenever possible go for a weekend. Whilst there I always visit York Minster and usually stay in an Inn a few feet away directly facing the Minster. The first thing that strikes you is the size of it and the fabulous architecture (it's over 500 feet wide and has a central tower almost 200 feet high). Visitors come from all over the world to admire York Minster Cathedral. Whilst you are looking around the Minster bear in mind it took over 250 years to complete and the only devices they had then were simple levers, pulleys and hoists. Lots of Masons and Carpenters spent their entire working lives just helping to construct York Minster. In the year 306A.D. Constantine was proclaimed Emperor in a ceremony which took place on the sight of the future Minister, there is a statue of him looking very Imperial outside...

5 stars for the 4 star Royal York hotel

Advantages: Great location, every need taken care of
Disadvantages: Price!

...I recently had a chance to stay at this rather lovely 4 star hotel in York. My husband is involved with a medical company and for their AGM this year they stayed at The Royal York with a meal at the nearby (if you call 40 minuets on a coach) Castle Howard. All very posh and normally way above my means of expense (for the general person attending this function think doctor, surgeon, well paid researcher), however as hubby does work for them they paid for most of the trip (we had to pay £26 in total, what a great deal!). Arrival -------- The hotel is situated next to York train station and has a large car park so it?s convenient to drive too. Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, leisure faclities
Disadvantages: slightly expensive

...My partner and I stayed in this hotel for two nights very recently. We had originally booked into the York Ibis but I decided to book this hotel as a surprise for him and cancel the Ibis - and I'm glad I did. I researched quite a few hotels in York but this one seemed to have the grandeur, facilities and central location I was looking for - and it had a spa! Originally named the Royal Station Hotel, the hotel was opened in the 1878 and was owned by the Northeastern Railway Company, the purpose of the hotel being to disguise the train station which is behind it. Although named the Royal Hotel, no member of royalty has actually stayed here. York Minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, which is the second most prominent seat within the Church of England, after the Archbishop of Canterbury. Jorvik centre: York

Advantages: Very good attraction!!
Disadvantages: Expensive!

...child, but it is well worth the trip! It gives you something just that little bit extra than just the same old museum. And it really gives you a new view on York itself. The museum itself was "found" around 1984, when a new building was been built on the site, when the builders stumbled upon an old town beneath the new city of York, with Viking remains, a whole new York was found, and the museum was put on top of it, so that it could be preserved and so that tourists could see their findings. The Jorvik centre is open 7 days a week. In summer the opening times are 10am-5pm and in winter, 10am til 4pm. The only days the Jorvik centre is fully closed in Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day. So whenever you visit York, it is a well worth trip!   Yay for York

Advantages: Brilliant societies, great teaching
Disadvantages: 60's concrete block buildings

Discover York's Viking past

Advantages: Lots to see
Disadvantages: Expensive, the queues

...above. Each tour consists of about 30 people and tours take place about every 10 minutes throughout the day. After a wait of only a few minutes we were greeted by a chap dressed as a Viking who invited us to follow him on a journey into the past to the year 975AD and more intriguingly to a specific date within that year. We all followed like sheep and were seated inside a small room, this room was referred to as "the time machine" and this is from where our journey began. I won't describe what happened in detail for feel of spoiling it for others but it was an interesting start to the tour. Having travelled back in time over a thousand years we were then greeted by another authentically dressed character who loaded us all into carriages which would take us on our tour of York as it would have looked all those years ago. The York Dungeon - A Fantastic Day Out

Advantages: Enthusiastic cast; special effects; lasted a long time; small queues
Disadvantages: 'Ride' was poor; closes early; it is scary, makes you jump

...I had always been interested in 'The Dungeons'; I'd seen several TV advertisements for the dungeon in York, and after visiting their website and tapping into my sat nav how long it'd take to drive there, my partner and I discovered it'd only take us around an hour and about 20 minutes, so we decided to make the trip and go. The best part was that being a 'SKY+' subscriber, I had received a 2-for-1 voucher, so when we realised it was going to be cheaper than what we'd previously expected, it was an added bonus. GETTING TO YORK DUNGEON, AND PARKING The trusty Sat Nav got us all the way to York Dungeons, although it was quite well sign posted from the main roads. Parking was a bit of a nightmare - I had only bought cash along with me, with about £7 in change, assuming that the carpark would cost around £6 or £7 to stay...
