...As I prepare for my trip to New York this upcoming week I decided to review the previous hotel that I stayed in for a long weekend in November back in 2003, The Travel Inn. I was not originally meant to be staying at the Travel Inn as I had booked the four of us into the Hotel Newton which was located on 2528 Broadway and had a 1 star rating and at the time I did not realise how far this hotel was located from the Times Square area, and on arrival we were all beginning to worry about the distance to all the tourist facilities. On this occasion we were lucky, due to problems with existing guests we arrived at the hotel to check-in only to be told that there was no room and we were being transferred to a better hotel in a better location......BRILLIANT!! .... This is a service from Amtrak and I think the ticket costs about 11$ per person for a one way ticket. To catch the train to NYC we took the airtrain at Newark Airport.. We had already picked up train tickets from a machine in one of the terminals but I don't think we would have known about this unless we had read about this in the guidebook. The tickets we bought were to Penn Station - the only problem is that there is one Penn Station in Newark and one Penn Station in New York. We managed to get tickets to the wrong Penn Station of course but it was not a big problem. I guess the air con on the train was out of order because it felt like we were in a sauna. And the train isn't really made for travellers with big suitcases so we had to stand with our bags on the trip to Penn Station. The trip doesn't take that long. All of sudden we were standing... Advantages: Friendly, quirky, excellent bars and restaurants and attractions that will suit everyone.
Disadvantages: Other people know this too and come in their hundreds

...bars now have a late licence and venue bars often go on until early hours with many bars having musicians on. - Notable pubs and bars incldue the Kings Arms which gets flooded at least twice a year, the Stone Roses which was once a rock bar playing mainly Britpop, Fibbers an excellent bar for hosting new bands, the Star which is the oldest pub in York and the Pitcher and Piano which has a balcony right on the river. Travel ---------- In comparison with Leeds or Manchester the actual city of York is quite small with most of the locals living in the surrounding villages and suburbs. ...I went to New York for three days as part of a longer trip around the States recently. It was my first visit, and I want to share with you what a great place it is. I flew American Airlines into JFK airport, landing at about 8 pm, knowing that I had at least an hours journey on the subway to where I was staying. This was a bit scary, as I was travelling alone. You hear plenty of horroh stories about the subway, and I have to admit to feeling a bit intimidated as I stood on the platform waiting for the train. When it arrived, however, I felt much more at ease, as there were other people on the train, who were just going about their normal lives. We had originally booked into the York Ibis but I decided to book this hotel as a surprise for him and cancel the Ibis - and I'm glad I did. I researched quite a few hotels in York but this one seemed to have the grandeur, facilities and central location I was looking for - and it had a spa! Originally named the Royal Station Hotel, the hotel was opened in the 1878 and was owned by the Northeastern Railway Company, the purpose of the hotel being to disguise the train station which is behind it. Although named the Royal Hotel, no member of royalty has actually stayed here. ...expensive. The underground system in New York is relatively similar to the one in London. As long as you follow the map and make sure you get on the train going the right direction its fairly simple to get around. You can buy a week pass for the underground, or just pay for each journey. If you intend to use his as your main method of travel, it’s cheaper to buy the week pass. The underground is quite reliable. There are several different lines that stop at most destinations, so even if one is out of action, you can always find another route. It does get very crowded at peak times though, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re claustrophobic. And hold on to your valuables- pick pockets are always at work! ..., even if it was only for 5 days. I would definitely go back and me and my boyfriend are even considering moving there when we are older. Everybody is so friendly and everyone says hello, unlike the sometimes hostile English. Walking around is a little scary as there seem to be cars everywhere but it doesn't take long to get used to it! Overall, I think this is a fantastic place to be. If you don't like city life then this may not be for you but I think it is at least worth a visit if you are in America, just to say you've had the New York Experience. ...First York is the Main bus operator for the city of York, They operate 100 vehicles with the majority being under 3 years old, with three different types of route. The routes The Metro routes which are colour coded and "should" run on a set frequency depending on which route you're on it can be anything from every 10mins to every 30mins (Mon- Sat daytime) which there are 8 services that come into this category.
