Becoming totally wrapped up in the moment that now I recal the memories as if they were pages from a book, all the words flowing to make a picture in my mind, not of how it actually was like, but instead seeing myself as a character complete with costume. We all raced around after the initial clue had been given, all trying to be the first, so that you could have a good look at the clue for the next, before you had to divulge the information. I look now at my Grandparents garden and wonder how on earth they managed to hide so many clues in so many places, without any being discovered too early. Advantages: Solid acting, fun storyline, interesting ideas, fast-paced action

...expect from a Jerry Bruckheimer film). However, while I might be justified in calling it clever in some places, subtle is one thing that "National Treasure" is certainly not. I think it is no coincidence that the villain of the piece is British, an obvious and simplistic attempt to reflect the opposition to colonialism that brought the Declaration of Independence about in the first place. Yet this idealistic stance is also something of a weakness. While most treasure hunt (or, in this case, history presented as treasure hunt) stories have a map that leads to great wealth, in this film the map is itself an item of great value that is worth at least as much as the horde to which it leads (at least to Ben, Abigail and Riley). Rather than have the courage of its convictions, though, Hollywood demands that there must be something at the end... Read review

Abigail Chase – played by Diane Kruger (Troy) is the Curator of the National Archives. In her role she is at least partly responsible for the safety of the Declaration of Independence. She is stubborn and dedicated and will do almost anything to protect the Declaration. Deep down she is intrigued by Ben’s story of a treasure and admires his motives for searching for it. Ian Howe - played by Sean Bean (Troy, Lord of the Rings) is a wealthy adventurer who starts out funding Ben’s search for the treasure. My last two year’s involvement with our local Community Association have meant I have been heavily involved in co-ordinating and/or participating in our annual event, which is getting busier and busier each year. Basically, a Car Treasure Hunt consists of a road route, with several clues on the way around, which need to be solved by the participants in the car. ...It seems that movie studios have suddenly caught up with the fact that Indiana Jones series were highly successful films. There now seems to be more and more ancient treasure hunting style movies being made. The two Tomb Raider movies lead the way and now we have the latest film from the Pirates of The Caribbean's producers, National Treasure. I seemed to miss this when it was out in the cinema but I decided to buy it on DVD, as I am quite a big fan of Nicholas Cage. Would it be any good or would I once again be left with that overwhelming sense of disappointment. ...I have seen this movie more times than i care to mention and still every time i watch it the film still comes across fresh to me. Mabey its the subject as American history is a passion of mine and Nicholas cage is catching my eye with his acting. The story is quite simple to follow and is based around the biggest treasure hunt you can imagine. The theme is set around clues using true American historical facts, so its educational as well as entertaining. Ben gates (Cage) is following the dreams of his family that go back as far as the reveloution.
