...A day spent horse riding in the Gambia, West Africa. During my first visit to the Gambia, about five years or so ago, a fellow tourist and I arranged (with the help of my Gambian friend, Dudu) to witness the sights, sounds and smells of the West African beaches and countryside on horseback. As this category suggests (well, it was me who suggested it!) this opinion is purely about trekking on horseback in the Gambia. Review of Pony trekking in the Gambia

Indoor trekking

Advantages: Excellent cardio workout

...Have just come back from a trekking class at our local Health and Fitness club. For those of you who have yet to try this excellent form of exercise let me explain what is involved. Trekking indoors involves running on a treadmill at various speeds and inclines for about 45 minutes. It provides a structured yet fun work out that you can adapt to differing levels of fitness. Our gym instructor leads you through the programme which starts with stretching and a 5 minute gentle warm up. You then establish what is called your set pace, a pace at which you can run comfortably running at zero percent incline for 3 minutes. You then increase the incline to 2 percent for 2 minutes before coming back to zero percent incline again. Trekking in the Isalo National Park

Advantages: Great weather, lovely people, good food, spectacular views
Disadvantages: None!

...I thoughroughly enjoyed the three days we spend in the Isalo National Park, we had an excellent guide and the weather was very good, especially as it was the rainy season (Jan-March), the hotel we stayed in was very nice, all the rooms were based around a courtyard at the back of the hotel and each evening the gates were locked by the owner, making the hotel very secure, the owner (who I believe was Dutch) was very friendly and put us in touch with our guide. There are I believe two restaurants in the village, both of which were excellent and very good value for money, the modern restaurant in the middle of the village however was a little slow with the service, but it was nice to enjoy more luxurious surroundings. I hunger for a better movie

An army officer who has been involved in a big battle which was a blood bath is proclaimed a hero but then mysteriously sent off to a tiny fort where he can't get into trouble. He doesn't eat meat and is haunted by bad dreams and some very troubling images. Sounds interesting eh? Yeah, I thought so too but they do manage to f*ck it up so read on gentle reader! The soldiers at the fort find a man who claims he has trekked through miles of snow to escape from a maniac who was eating a traveling party.
