Its a good train to ride on.
Advantages: Good route to The Jardins Artigus
Disadvantages: None
...the train onto the cement museum.
We got to the end of the line at the museum but discovered we had got there at the beginning of the 2 hour lunch break ?????????.. We should have checked before we began our journey. The train turns round here and returns back to Pobla ten minutes later. We had got off the train and walked away so had to catch the next train back an hour later. There is a café at the station here so we had a drink and we could have had something to eat but I had a picnic with us so we walked of and found somewhere to eat. Returning to Pobla de lillet we looked around the small railway museum by the side of the station
The timetable is quite good trains run hourly check the timetable at http://www.fgc.net/accesible/eng/ociturisme/trenturistic.htm as they differ depending on the season. The hour between trains was ideal...

The Spanish are definitely better at this
Advantages: Great service...
Disadvantages: Make sure you're at the station on time because they do run early at times!
...are automatic to keep you in, so forget slam-door! The trains are very modern and extremely wheelchair-friendly.
RENFE has an extensive route network covering most of Spain. They have been running many years and have great services running very frequently on their modern network.
There have been next to no acccidents in Spain, if any, as their system is very organised to run smoothly and on-time, which is great for the passenger. They also have a 'BonoTren' - a but like a Travelcard, which gives you lots of train travel for very low prices!
They also have their website, www.renfe.es, which is very useful and tells you they have about 65 main stations, a bit like Waterloo, except much more modern!
You can also book tickets online, which is useful if you're travelling from the UK, because although the staff may be very helpful in...

The Floating Gardens of Mexico City
Advantages: Unique day or half day trip
Disadvantages: A fair distance out of town
...Having lived in Mexico City since the start of July, I can't believe it's taken me over 3 months to visit this place, since it's one of the most famous attractions in the city and has been since the 1920s. Xochimilco (soch-ee-milk-oh) is an area located to the south of the city, known for its series of canals, the remains of old Lake Xochimilco. Quick trivia here, this was home to canoeing and rowing competitions when Mexico hosted the Olympics back in 1968.
~ Getting There and When To Go ~
Xochimilco isn't just a bit south of the city, it's a long way away, so much so that it took me over an hour to get there and I already live south of the centre. Metros only run as far as Tasqueña (end of Line 2, the blue one) and from there you can either catch the Tren Ligero ("electric train" or as I would call it...a tram) or take...

Under the Spell of PortAventua at Halloween
Advantages: A park that really gets into the 'spirit'!
Disadvantages: Many of the special attractions and events only run on weekends
...? wow, it?s been a while since a guy looked at me like that! The actual attraction is fairly scary, the child in front of me had his head buried in his parent?s clothing the entire time!
Banquet of Fear This is a themed dinner with a show at Emmas House at the Iron Horse. Believe it is held on Saturdays only, it is not recommended for under 14?s and costs 43? a head. Apparently this is where ?The Cadaver Bride and the Head Chopper celebrate their love?!
La Mina del Diablo (The Devils Mine) 3 pumpkin rating
Another horror walk-through attraction with more actors jumping out at you, situated at the El Diabolo-Tren de la Mina ride, the theme being an abandoned mine.
Los No Muertos de Penitence (The Undead of Penitance) 1 pumpkin rating
The Old Steak House, every day. Live band plays for about 20 minutes.

Not For Thrill Seekers
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
...the other lands.
~~~ Far West ~~~
Ah the Far West when men were Cowboys, and Native Americans were Indians! Although there are a host of rides advertised in this area they include several funfair rides like bumper cars and junior bumper cars! There were two rollercoasters, Stampida and Tommahawk, Stampida gives you a choice of red or blue cars which race each other round and Tomahawk is a junior roller coaster. The main attraction in this land was Grand Canyon Rapids which is one of those water rides where you sit in a round boat and get very wet.
~~~ Mexico ~~~
Ah that South American feeling, in the Spanish heat you could almost believe you are really in Mexico. The attractions are El Diable-Tren de la Mina, Serpiente Emplumada, Los Potrillos, Armadillos and the Temlpo Del Fuego. El Diablo-Tren de La Mina is a roller coaster (tame...

Save the best til last...
Advantages: Dry off quickly from the water rides with the heat
Disadvantages: HOT
...ride - close your eyes and its over in a splash, sorry flash. There is two drops, one not too big, the other huge, and again almost vertical, even wetter. A tip is to get all these rides out of the way in one go, giving yourself a chance to dry off and try out the rest of the park, although be warned most other people seemed to have the same idea. Queue under cover and definitely worth a second go.
SEA ODYSSEY - POLYNESIA
This is a simulator of superb proportions, and I won't go into too much detail for fear of spoiling the surprise, absolutely brilliant and well worth a ride.
EL-DIABLO-TREN DE LA MINA - MEXICO
In a nut-shell a wooden roller coaster just like Jakes Runaway mine train at Alton Towers - short queues and well worth a go. Little thrills and spills and not too fast, very good for drying off.
Also in this quarter is...

A vastly under-rated destination
Advantages: Very cheap, and not overrun with tourists
Disadvantages: Language barrier, unscrupulous money changers
...another alternative is visiting the Turkish bathhouse in the town centre. By train it is a two hour trip from Bratislava, with a change in Trenčianska Teplá, and the trip costs SKK132 single.
As a rough guide Slovak cooking very typical of Eastern European cooking, and it is easy to eat out very cheaply (£6 will get you a very good dinner) so you will find it very hard to spend an arm and a leg whilst in Slovakia. Slovakia is very under-rated. I have been twice now and thoroughly intend to go back, and not just because of the incredibly cheap duty free gin at the border (£7 for a litre of Bombay Blue Sapphire). I hope to explore Eastern Slovakia this autumn and will then be able to add to this opinion....

WHAT A VENTURA IN SPAIN !! (Hopefully in the right place now!!)
Advantages: Endless, a wonderfulexperience for all ages.
Disadvantages: A little hilly if you are bad on your feet
...at the top before riders are sent to free fall to the bottom of the ride. This ride is one of the tallest in the world at 330 ft. The view from the top is incredible - quite scary and very high! It shootsdown so fast that I could hardly scream! Templo Del Fuego is a walkthrough attraction which runs every 30 minutes - we didn't get to go in because of Jack's experiences in El Diablo of which I shall tell you in a moment. But it is basically a Mayan temple which an Indiana Jones type character raids in search of treasure with a high level of pyrotechnics - I would have loved to have seen it but my poor son was in no fit state!!!
El Diablo-Tren de la Mina - well here lies a story!!!!
I loved this ride, it is mine train very much like Disney's Thunder Mountain. Oh yes ,Jack loved the ride - it was the bit before that caused the trouble...

Una Ciudad Muy Bonita
Advantages: Easy and cheap to fly to. Great place when you get there.
Disadvantages: Maybe the Guggenheim doesn't quite do it for me.
.... Bilbao seems to have won the lottery in the form of regional grants to uplift its transportation system. In addition to very frequent buses (Bilbobus ? I liked that for some reason), there is a brand-spanking new underground metro designed by Norman Foster. The entrances, which are frequently in the form of a glazed hood appearing out of the pavement, have become known affectionately as Fosteritas. A single ride costs 1?, but a day pass costs a mere 3?. Before you start making comparisons with the London Underground?s £5 for a Travelcard, bear in mind that Bilbao?s not that big a place. The metro line heads north to the river estuary where it splits and runs along each bank for a few miles. Oh yes, and joy of joys, mobile phones work down there (Ola, estoy en el tren)
In addition, the city now has a tram network ? well, it will be a network...
