Tri band, tri-light
Review of Motorola Timeport L7089 by
al.humbie
Advantages: light, tri=band
Disadvantages: no games
...The Motorola L7089 was the first tri band phone that was made available to us here in the UK, now its also available as the P7389 which is the same as the L7089 but with WAP features. These phones do have a good solid feel to them! which you don't get in many of the Motorola phones. That doesn't mean they are too heavy either, they weigh only 108g. This includes the Li-ion battery which delivers a good battery life of either 120 hours of standby or 200 minutes of talk time. The phone also has a built in infrared modem that can be connected to PDA and laptops directly via the IR modem or the optional serial cable. Motorola performs very well on the screen quality and the size, the screen is super clear and crisp. The user interface (menu system) is not the best but one of the better in the Motorola's makings (we recently seen a cheap...

Tri Band Terrific
Review of Samsung V200 by
andycharger
Advantages: Great quality sounds and pictures
Disadvantages: Fiddly to use. Texting is a pain
...if it is operating wireless itself. Luckily my laptop is so I can take pictures with my phone and send them to people via the computer.
This can be a bit awkward sometimes as the infa red connection can play up. You have to make sure you line the infa red sensors on both devices up exactly too.
Picture Messaging.
You can send pictures via the MMS system that this phone supports. However, make sure your provider supports this too. I am with Virgin Pay as you Go and they do not allow media Messaging, hence why I send pictures via email!
Tri Band Technology.
No longer do I require an additional Phone to use in USA. This phone has pretty much worldwide coverage. So no matter where I go in the world, I can always phone home.
Texting?
Hmm...I end up pulling my hair out with this one. It has predictive text and this can cause a problem. I have...

Tri band functionality, but clunky user interface
Review of Motorola Timeport L7089 by
ESpy
Advantages: Tri band
Disadvantages: Where's that command again?
...I had one of these for work, ostensibly so that it could be used easily whilst in the US on business travel.
Yes, the tri band aspect worked seamlessly; yes, the modem worked (pity the laptop died, but that is another story), but I never could like it.
The user interface is, in a word, pathetic. Completely non-intuitive. The handset guys had a set of legacy code, and it was more important to them to reuse it than actually pay attention to the market. The battery life was never that great (even with the flashing LED turned off...), and I had to resort to using the extended battery. The plastic clip was a nightmare - I couldn't trust it to retain the phone on my belt, so usually had it in a pocket instead.
The biggest issue with a tri band phone is GSM coverage in the US... Around Chicago in particular, coverage was patchy...

Possibly the perfect mobile phone
Review of Ericsson T68 by
kurowski
Advantages: Amazing features, technical wizardry and fancy gimmicks
Disadvantages: Slow handling of text messages; very, very nickable
...can be set from whisperingly quiet to deafeningly loud, call quality is among the best I've experienced, and the display is clear with a bright white backlight; the keys are lit by yellow LEDs. The keys are pleasing to use, being plastic rather than rubber and having a positive action - you know when you've pressed a key. The phone vibrates, too.
In terms of technical merit, the T68 has HSCSD (fast data transfer), GPRS (even faster data transfer), infra-red (wireless connectability with PCs, palmtops and other phones), Bluetooth (wireless connectability with just about anything), and it's tri-band, so you can take the phone to the USA and roam there. If you're feeling decidedly old-fashioned, you could connect it to your PC with a data cable too. But hey, that's just not flash enough for this phone.
Ericsson's decision to depart...

One of the tiniest phones!
Review of Panasonic GD55 by
pinkpoodle
Advantages: Tiny! One of the cheapest tri-band phones
Disadvantages: Small key pad, has crashed on me twice
...As the title suggests, I was attracted to this phone first and foremost because of the size. I'd had my loyal "brick" phone for the best part of four years, and although my previous phone had given me good service, quite frankly I was fed up with carting a large and heavy phone around.
The GD55 is max 65g, and (h x w x d)77 x 43 x 17mm. I can slip in in my pocket or hang it around my neck on the cord and hardly be aware of it.
I originally intended to by the cheapest phone on the market, bit cheapskate but I wanted a basic functional phone. However, the shop assistant changed my mind and I am glad!
The GD55, as far as I am aware is the cheapest tri-band phone (can use in more countries than dual-band, including the United States). Not only that, but Vodafone shops seem unaware of this. On buying my phone and then failing to see...

HOW TO MAKE CASH FROM YOUR MOBILE
Review of Member Advice on Choosing a mobile phone by
moose
Advantages: There are some GREAT deals out there
Disadvantages: Can be extremely confusing
...amongst us! At the time of writing this opinion an Ericsson T68 is around £160 to buy on most contracts but give it a couple of months and I expect we will see it in the shops for less than £50, maybe even free!
What features do you want your phone to have? If you regularly travel abroad you may want to consider a tri-band phone which will work in the US and most other major countries (a dual band will work in most European countries and a few others). Are you an avid text-er?? If so you may want to consider phones with bigger buttons and screens (smaller buttons make it quite difficult to text, especially if you have big hands!).
Weight, dimensions (size IS important guys!), colour, screen size, radiation levels are all very important considerations. Games, vibrating alerts, WAP, calculators etc… are all added value features...

The Best Mobile Phone Ever .... Part 6427
Review of Sony Ericsson T610 by
rayliu
Advantages: Brilliant phone customisation, Good size screen with 65K colours (STN screen technology aside), Navigation system, Downloadable Games/Apps, Range of connectivity options
Disadvantages: Casing attracts fingerprints and smudges, Hard to view in sunny outdoor conditions, 2MB memory maybe too little, Back and Cancel buttons maybe confusing, Quick Access to WAP services can be costly if accidently pressed.
...Mobile phones have jumped leaps and bounds in the last year and a half since I last purchased a mobile phone. The phone in question was the T68 from Ericsson and at the time it was nothing short of a miracle in terms of what it offered. It featured a full colour phone sporting a 256 colour display, tri band (which meant it could be used in the US/Canada as well as the rest of the world) and the infamous Bluetooth wireless technology. Not many phones at the time had those features and even if they did, they didn’t have all of them. The T68 quickly became Ericsson’s best selling phone and helped revived the brand against long-term rivals Nokia and Motorola. One facelift later, in the form of the revised T68i and after a re-branding/merger exercise between Sony and Ericsson, Sony Ericsson has recently released the T610.
Sony Ericsson...

Good little phone
Review of Nokia 5210 by
ampuk2000
Advantages: Size, Weight, Durability
Disadvantages: Menu can be slow at times especially when you turn it on.
...and Yorkshire and have not had many problems in getting a signal. (This does depend on your network support though.) I have also used it abroad in Spain and Malta (again with no problems.) However it is worth remembering that this phone is not Tri-band so if you are going to a country such as the USA then you will not be able to use this phone, because they use different settings to us.
- Text messaging (SMS) This has become a more popular method of communicating in recent years, especially with the younger generation. Basically using the letters assigned to the various keys you can write a short message to someone else who has a mobile phone. This phone has a predictive dictionary so theoretically if you are typing a message it predicts what you are writing to try and save you time. I find this function completely useless and so disable...
