A Trifle worth trifling with!
Review of Tesco Healthy Living Strawberry trifle triple pack by
brittle1906
Advantages: Tasty, smooth and creamy
Disadvantages: Sugar & calorie content high
...Review of Tesco Healthy Living Strawberry Trifle Triple Pack
Tesco supermarket are well known for their range of own branded goods, some are excellent, some not so good. This particular product falls into the excellent category!
**The Product**
As the name implies, this is a triple pack of individual strawberry trifles.
The product packaging describes the trifles as "12% Strawberries in a fruit jelly, sponge, custard and whipped cream". The trifles are presented in a clear plastic pot with a clear perspex lid. The whipped cream is clearly visible through this and looks very pretty and tempting with it's rosette pattern!
On opening the lid, there is a faint fruity scent, but other than that there is no discernable aroma.
**Taste and texture**
The trifle texture is soft and light. The spoon slides through the whipped...

A trifle too sweet for my liking!
Review of Bird's Trifle - Strawberry Flavour by
Liney_1973
Advantages: Kids and husbands love it!
Disadvantages: I don't and it takes a while to make
...A trifle too sweet for my liking!
Don't ask me why, but I decided to make a Bird's Strawberry Trifle last weekend. I have had a couple of boxes sitting in the cupboard for a few weeks now - I don't even know why I bought them from the supermarket, must have been an impulse buy. You see I am not a lover of cold custard - one of the main ingredients of trifle. Cold custard was called blancmange when I was a kid and I detested it then and I still do now.
Anyway on to my Bird’s Trifle...
I opened one of my Trifle boxes up to be confronted by several packets…
1) Strawberry Jelly Crystals
2) Bird's Custard Powder
3) Dream Topping
4) Chocolate flavour hundreds and thousands
Then I realised that the box didn't contain any sponge fingers as it should have – oh no, you can’t have a trifle without any sponge fingers!
It...

Trifling around with Luxury
Review of ASDA Chocolate Trifle by
Lizard_Lover
Advantages: Full of chocolate
Disadvantages: None
...Trifles are a bit of a favourite in our house. At Christmas I tend to make one each year, using a recipe passed down from my grandmother, and we all enjoy them immensely. I have always been averse to purchasing any ready made trifles from supermarkets, due to their unappetising taste, and the extortionate prices, but this week I was traipsing the aisles of ASDA when I espied a chocolate one. Not being able to resist much that contains chocolate, I ummed and ahhed a little, before putting the trifle into the basket to bring home.
The trifle is packaged in a recyclable transparent plastic container, which is fluted, and can be utilised for a jelly or blancmange mould after use. A 650g trifle will cost £1.78, and will easily serve four people, so the trifle is a very economical dessert for a family. I will happily admit that the main...

No Trifling Matter
Review of Iceland Fruit Cocktail Trifles by
gardenguru1
Advantages: Ideal midweek dessert
Disadvantages: not for dieters
...Always tempted by special offers, I saw Iceland were selling 4 for the price of 3 fruit cocktail trifles and decided that I’d buy them and see how they compared to my usual home-made efforts.
The packaging is attractive and eye-catching with a bright purple background against which the four fruit cocktail varieties are pictured. These are peach, pear, grapes and pineapple. A spoon complete with sample of trifle is also shown. This looks very realistic and tempting. The trifles are packaged in a line rather than the usual 2 by 2 square shape.
It's good to know that Iceland products do not contain any genetically modified ingredients, artificial colours or flavours and this note is shown on the front of the box in a turquoise circle. The side of the box gives the ingredients of which the main ones are concentrated skimmed...

Very Nice But A Trifle Sweet!
Review of Marks & Spencer Strawberry Trifle by
micksheff
Advantages: Tastes Delicious
Disadvantages: Very Sweet, Lots Of Sugar, Quite A Few E numbers
...Anyone who has read any of my previous reviews will know that I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I love my Chocolate, Snacks and Biscuits, but I have another weakness too, and one which until tonight I hadn't indulged in for quite some time - I am talking about Strawberry Trifle, and when it comes to trifle it has to be Marks & Spencers.
THE PRODUCT
The product I purchased which is the one used in this review was a 500g Marks & Spencer's Strawberry Trifle which cost £2.35.
This product is packaged in a clear plastic container which is round in shape and narrow at the base and wide at the top giving it a funnel shape. In fact according to the bottom of this plastic container this is a registered design, but let's face it's what inside that really matters isn't it.
Anyway just before I get on to reviewing the actual product I...

Trifles!
Review of asda trifle sponges by
neenn
Advantages: Good consistency and texture once 'trifled'! Cheap
Disadvantages: None
...Before I begin I must ask you to disregard the photo ciao have offered, it would be enough to put any consumer off, they look gross. Unfortunately I used mine before looking at the photo, otherwise I would have taken a photo of them to show you that they are in fact edible! I'll add a photo of the box later.
I'm not renowned for my culinary talents, it's all a bit too technical for me but I was challenged to make a trifle. After the initial panic, I simply called upon the services of my Mum.
~ Price ~
These are a great bargain, only 50p from Asda.
I'm often wary of things that are so cheap as I wonder if they will do the job as well as the more expensive branded items but these did.
~ Packaging ~
Bog standard box, inside of which are 8 rectangular sponges, which are cellophane wrapped in 4s which is great if you only...

Tastebud Tingling Trifle!
Review of Danone Trifle by
Amy69
Advantages: tasty, low in fat, varied texture
Disadvantages: high in sugar
...Every day for the past few weeks, I had been enjoying Müller Light yoghurt as part of my lunch. Although I have a lot of praise for the brand and products, even I was beginning to get a bit bored with eating them daily, and fancied a change.
When I was at Asda, I browsed through the dairy section, trying to sift out a new yoghurt variety for me to sample. There were a few that caught my eye, but at closer inspection I decided they were not for me. Finally, I managed to find a few appealing desserts, and added them to the trolley.
Just as I was about to head into the next aisle, I spotted another dessert pot at the end of the shelf. It was not yoghurt as such, but a fruit trifle! This particular snack,, made by Danone, was in a strawberry flavour and the words 'Low Fat' standing out from the cardboard packaging. There were three...

LIGHT TRIFLES THAT HAS TO BE GOOD
Review of Cadbury Light Chocolate Trifles by
vicky27
Advantages: THEY ARE LIGHT
Disadvantages: N/A
...I bought a pack of these for my two nephews who as soon as they arrive dive straight to the fridge to see what goodies I might have.
I chose these particular ones as they are called light chocolate trifles, and not without reason. They are half the fat of the normal cadbury trifles and I thought their mothers may look upon me more as a caring auntie, than someone who just shovels any old junk in to there mouths.
Each trifle has 162 calories, and 6.8g of protein. They come in see through cartons with the usual purple cadbury logo quite visible. I paid £1-25 for four, but I believe you can buy single pots but not sure of the price.
The pots are quite small containing 100g, but then for a child thats more than enough, if it was for me, well that's another story. Of course I had to try one first after all I was giving them to my...

Insignificant? Definitely not!
Review of Bird's Trifle - Strawberry Flavour by
Kingseany
Advantages: Yummy, cheap
Disadvantages: Takes time to make, heavy on belly
...A rare treat these days for me is any typical British desert, things like custard, jelly and trifle aren't considered normal here, and I can't rush to the shops and buy them. Fortunately the internet age allows the purchase of anything, wherever you are. We also have an "English Shop", an hour from us in case of emergencies.
I happen to have just finished the last in the bottom of a bowl of Bird's Strawberry flavour trifle. It was made yesterday for a party, and it got mixed reactions by it's tasters who weren't familiar with it - hence me finishing it off today.
It's not something you can take out of a box and serve it up, you need to do a bit of work - so those with kitchen phobias, perhaps you should buy one ready made.
The packaging is red, yellow and blue, with a birds logo and a nice image of some trifle in a dish (it...

A better cream layer & they'd be perfect!
Review of Cadbury Light Chocolate Trifles by
liz1102
Advantages: Lower fat and cals than the other cadbury trifles, still taste like cadbury chocolate
Disadvantages: Cream lets them down, quite expensive, still more fat and cals than other products
...Cadbury's Light Trifle - less than half the fat of Cadbury Trifle.
"Reduced fat milk chocolate mousse, milk chocolate dessert and chocolate chip cookie, all topped with a layer of light creamy topping with sugar and sweetener"
°*°Price°*
To the best of my knowledge, these only come in packs of 3. I bought mine in Sainsbury's for £1.48, which works out at 49p per trifle pot. Similar sized dessert products retail at around the same price, although this is slightly higher than some. For what you get, it is a good price in comparison, but they do push my student budget if I were to buy them on a regular basis. The Cadbury's Light Trifles are 10g lighter per pot than their full fat alternatives (90g rather than 100g), which retail at the same price.
°*°Packaging°*°
Each 3 pack is wrapped in a cardboard sleeve to hold the pots...
