A previous host back in Havana had kindly made arrangements for a friend of his, another casa particular owner, to put us up in Trinidad and Pedro took us straight to his house on the edge of Trinidad?s quaint and colourful colonial old town, taking short cuts down narrow alleyways while we tried to remember landmarks. We were hungry, tired and somewhat taken aback by all the hustle and bustle going on around us. Pedro seemed to know everyone in Trinidad and shook hands with the men he met and pointed out things of interest along the short walk up the hill to the house he shares with his wife, Carmen. Trinidad has few big tourist hotels, the few there are in the area are mainly situated on the beach a few miles away at Playa Ancon and so locals have been given more or less free reign in letting out their spare rooms. Great holiday at the Sol Trinidad

Advantages: Location, location, location
Disadvantages: Noisy for some guests

...We went on holiday to Majorca for 10 days in July and stayed at the Sol Trinidad hotel in Magaluf. We have been to Magaluf in the past and stayed at a Sol hotel which we really liked and so decided to give this one a go. We booked it off teletext and stayed half-board. The hotel has 375 rooms spread over 9 floors, we had a pool view room on the forth floor which was quite handy as the two (very small!) lifts were out of action a few times and I was grateful for only having to climb four flights of stairs. It is situated a 2 minute walk across the road to the beach, and the road along the front of the hotel has lots of shops (clothes, souvenirs, booze, fags etc) and the road behind mainly bars and BCM the major nightclub where Radio 1 were doing there live weekend while we were there. A package of maps worth having

...Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet. Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either by credit or debit card, and the down load commenced. Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer. Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest....

All Maps Welcome

Advantages: McRaes usual thought-provoking lyrics
Disadvantages: Not as easy to get absrobed into as previous albums

...All Maps Welcome is the third album from Tom McRae, after his self-titled album, Tom McRe, and then Just Like Blood. I first heard this album when I was given a free taster to it, which played about 30 seconds of each song; this then led me to buy the full album. I was already a fan, and was looking forward to seeing him when he toured last year. His dark lyrics and melancholy melodies really blew me away, and I wanted to hear more. In this album, he uses assistance from members of Beck?s backing band. It took only three weeks to record, and the album itself deals with the break up of a long term relationship. His lyrics are just as deep as in other albums, but with hints of self-pity never seen before. ...TomTom Map of the USA and Canada Maps TomTom Maps are a 2gb SD card with route maps stored on them that are made to work with the TomTom satellite navigation system. They originally come with UK/Europe maps so these are a brilliant upgrade if you are considering taking your car abroad or hiring a car and driving over there. These are a lot easier than using a standard map when you are visiting another country and make getting around easy. We have just bought one of these as we are planning a trip to the USA and decided one of these would be useful. I have never been abroad so certainly wont know my way around.
