Essex Triumph dealer.
Review of Ongar Motorcycles Ltd by wildtinsey

Advantages: Fully stocked spares department.
Disadvantages: Long wait for services.

...This is the dealership for Triumph in the Essex area. It has a showroom on the ground floor with a further showroom and parts shop upstairs. They have a fully equiped workshop on the premises and all the staff are friendly. The local RAT pack is based here too, (RAT = Riders Association of Triumph), they organise rides out and also excursions to the Triumph factory. I bought my Triumph Trophy from them and shortly after i bought it from them it wasnt running correctly so took it straight there and they looked at it for me there and then. I couldnt have asked for better service. As they are a good dealers you will find that there is quite a long wait to be fitted in to the service department especially during peak riding seasons, or just before. They carry the most commonly requested spares for all the Triumph models and the prices arent... Read review

Traditional Motorcycle.
Review of Triumph Legend TT by Ballacraine

Advantages: Classic styling, budget price, low seat height.
Disadvantages: No frills, not much chrome (for me that is an advantage!)

...On first sight this bike looked to me like a sixties Triumph twin on steroids. It uses a tasteful satin black finished T3 series triple engine housed in a frame that enables shorties like me to easily reach terra firma (a definite plus point). It is a traditional bike that will commute, tour (saddle my be a little firm for some), & it has enough ability to scratch too. It definitely isn't a sport bike. The suspension is firm at the rear & softish at the front. The single disc is adequate rather than stunning. I used it as a starting block to build my own idea of what a Triumph should be. The support from the manufacturer was less than impressive. The standard seat fixing is something worthy of a backyard special. It is agony to get the screws in & out. The access is very poorly designed. I complained forcefully at the time (Mine was one... Read review

Slow steads.
Review of Stead's Scooters by wildtinsey

Advantages: Good range
Disadvantages: Poor service

...This is a small family owned business in Romford, Essex. It specialises in selling scooters but also sells Royal Enfield motorcycles and may still sell Moto Guzzi's too. I bought my Royal Enfield from there in 2003 and the purchase went well. But when i took the bike there for service they would make me wait for around a week until it was ready without providing me with a courtesy bike. It was the same when i took it for a puncture repair. I always had to contact them to find out what was happening or when it would be ready even they kept saying they would phone me. I have since replaced the Enfield with a Triumph Trophy. The shop also sells spares, clothing and accessories and is fairly well stocked and things are reasonably priced. I wouldnt use them again due to the reasons I have mentioned.... Read review

T509 Speed Tripple
Review of Triumph Speed Triple by shadrak

Advantages: Fun, fast, quality paintwork, unique, handeling
Disadvantages: back brake, price

...I have been biking now for over 20 years, since 1976 actualy. That does not mean however I am an old fart who goes for the old style bikes. Far from it I have owned and ridden some really modern sports machines, ZZR1100, YZF100R etc. Unfortunatly my knees gave out first so radical riding positions are not desirable. Also increased police presence was taking the fun out of motorcycling, so time for a complete change. I have just brough a Triumph T509 speed tripple in Roulette Green, or as I have come to know it Snot green. Great colour and great bike, it makes you think you are going faster than you are, and its suits my biking nature. Best described in looks as a thugs bike, meant to be ridden and sod the law. Lukerly you annot remain at high speed for long unless you develope a neck like Arnold. Which is what I needed to slow down a bit... Read review

My Favourite Thing is A Motorcycle called Bessie
Review of Everything that starts with B ... by Night_Rider

Advantages: She is a stunner
Disadvantages: She leaks oil

...To celebrate a four-year cancer free period for Jill Murphy I would like to tell you about the love of my life. My favourite thing I know here I should choose my Wife, children or animals they all know I love them but the real love of my life has to be my motorcycles. Over the years I have owned and ridden many types(still do)but will tell you about one in particular. My favourite called Bessie Triumph 3TA I was working away from home doing some building work and it was whilst I was renovating a building that I met the owner of Bessie. The first time I ever saw her she was delegated to the back of an old mans garage in Cornwall. She had seen better days, as she was very old and decrepit. The old man had decided to restore her eventually. After two years of visiting both my friend and of course the bike he found out he... Read review

The Hinckley Island Hotel
Review of Island Hotel, Hinckley by PMuzzy1986

Advantages: Great Service and made to feel special!
Disadvantages: Brasserie isn't the best

.... The brasserie isn't the best restaurant I've been to, but they do provide a good service. However I would recommend the room service. Fast, efficient service and good food. Unfortunately they don't serve chips but they actually do a great Pizza. As long as you're prepared to pay the £4 Tray Charge. As you enter the hotel to check in, you are greeted by the lovely reception staff who offer to take your bags to your room. The Triumph bar is a recent addition to the hotel as the former bar was old fashioned looking, but the Triumph Bar looks racy and hot as its kitted out with Triumph Motorcycles and Gas Fireplace that is really cosy to sit in front of. They also have a great Piazza Bar which is good in the daytime if you want to sit and have a coffee whilst you're in a meeting or even if you want to relax and read the morning paper. I don... How much can three men take?
Review of Freebird DVD by wildtinsey

Advantages: Great british biker movie.
Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste.

...This DVD came out in June 2008, it is the story of 3 motorcycle couriers based in London. It stars Fred, Grouch and Tyg, who head to the welsh countryside one weekend to find an elusive hippy and his cannabis farm. But this ends up as a mission rather than a pleasant ride to Wales. The weekend is fuelled by booze, drugs, air guitaring and a run in with a bike gang. Fred is played by Gary Stretch who is an ex boxer, Grouch by Phil Daniels who you may know from Eastenders and finally Tyg is played by Geoff Bell. The bikes featured in the film are a Moto Guzzi ridden by Phil Daniels, a Triumph ridden by Gary Stretch and a Kawasaki ridden by Geoff Bell. The highlight of the film to me is the standoff of the rival bike gang against our three hapless heroes. This features over 200 assorted motorbikes on top of a welsh hillside, a spectacular... MI2 - The best action film this year (so far)
Review of Mission: Impossible 2 (Wide Screen) by TimothyC

Advantages: Good all action film
Disadvantages: storyline a bit weak

...angle, you want it you got it in MI2. The film starts gently, but builds most of the way. What sort of gadgets have we got, well we have helicopters flying, cars crashing, flipping and blowing up and (for me) the Triumph (British) motorcycles, which take part in a rather daft game of chicken towards the end. ---Note watch this bit and see if it doesn’t remind you of the 70’s program Monkey Magic just a bit---. Look at some of the scenery as well as the majority of the film is set in Australia around Sydney, it’s a bonza area. All in all a top film which is sure to be one of the big blockbusters of the year. I can assure you that you might come out of the cinema with Da Da DaDa Da Da DaDa going through your head as the MI tune is there in the background of some of the soundtrack.... Read review

I'm back
Review of Suzuki GS500E by dobieg

Advantages: Cheap (second hand) - few vices
Disadvantages: Unsophisticated

.... The motorcycle test was frankly a joke, you drove round a couple of blocks, the examiner used to pop out behind a parked car every now and again, and make you do an emergency stop - first time, you nearly always failed, second time, you nearly always passed. But what about the bike? - hang on, I'm coming to that! In spite of my lack of formal training, I considered myself a reasonably proficient rider, six years constant use, with only one minor accident - I put this down to having a reasonably cautious driving style, and 'sensible' choice of motorcycles. Back to the bike I got the chance of a GS500e from my best mate, who after using it for a couple of years upgraded to a Triumph speed four (which, if he ever stops polishing it, and lets me have a go, I'll write a review on!) The GS500e is basically a sheep in sheep's clothing. Not that there... Read review

The neighbours will hear you coming...
Review of Triumph Daytona T595 by peteshone

Advantages: Fast, British, Monstrous Noise, Character, Reliability, Looks
Disadvantages: Too fast for road, committed handling, lots of yellow ones

... Triumph Daytona T595 is useless. In the same way an oil painting is useless. I would argue that there is art in both, but I guess that sounds more than a bit pretentious huh? It's art Jim, but not as we know it... By way of an explanation... many motorcycles serve a purpose, whether it's transport, touring holidays, or racing for instance. They are designed with a purpose in mind, and many of their features are adapted to better fit their purpose. The Daytona simply wasn't designed this way. It was designed for no particular purpose at all other than to be itself. It's impractical as transport as you can't ride it slowly, it's too uncomfortable and thirsty for touring, plus there is nowhere convenient to store any luggage. There are even faster bikes for racing (but... Read review
