Like being in a tropical wonderland
Review of Tropical World (Leeds) by  Kuma2000

Advantages: Cheap and great for kids
Disadvantages: Abit hot, need more animals

...a different experience. Each area has plenty of information boards and are suitable for kids to look at too... Tropical Island -Land on the white sandy beach; discover beach huts and lush planting. Here you will find a swamp, humid rainforests, tumbling waterfalls, swirling pools of tropical fish and many exotic plants and flowers. Butterfly house - yes you guessed it, this area contains butterflies. Contains around 40 - 50 spiecies of butterfly. Also surrounded by exotic plants and citrus trees. Personally though I hate it when a butterfly comes too near (not so keen on them). Amazon Tank - The largest fish in tropical world live here, including the Niga Catfish from South America. This part is really amazing, you can sit and watch them for hours. Kids love to tease them on the window. Has the wow factor. Austalasia House - A calm... Read review

Totally Tropical
Review of Tropical World (Leeds) by  fizzytom

Advantages: Educational, unusal, great value for money
Disadvantages: Not great for younger kids

...Tropical World is situated at the Roundhay Village end of Leeds Roundhay Park. It is an intriguing combination of winter gardens and zoo with a series of expertly created landscapes such as Amazonian rainforest, Australasian desert and swamps for the visitor to explore. Curiously - sine the theme is short-lived, you embark on your trip via the "HMS Tropical World" - not a ship at all just a concept - and the first stop is a tropical beach scene; rather disappointingly there is not much to see here, just a mock up of a tropical beach. It's at this point that everyone takes off their hats and coats in preparation for the heat and humidity that lies ahead. Each ecosystem is home to the birds, fish, insects, plants and trees that would live there; obviously there are some limitations - this is not a zoo and it is all indoors so... Read review

Journey to the Tropical Forest
Review of Tropical World (Leeds) by  hinasif76

Advantages: Felt like visiting a real life tropical forest
Disadvantages: Hot and humid atmosphere

...A Little About Leeds…….. It takes just an hour drive from my hometown, Manchester to reach this alive and vibrant city called Leeds. Leeds is situated in the West Yorkshire, in the North of England. According to the recent population estimations, Leeds is the third largest city of England. It is a beautiful and historical place to visit as it has a huge range of attractions. The main attraction for us this weekend was the famous Tropical World of Leeds. One thing I must add is that if you have kids then do visit this wonderful place because my kids probably had their best outing this weekend when we all tasted the tropical experience. So I will try to portray the expressions and experience from my son's point of view as well. The Tropical World…….. This fabulous place is located 3 miles from Leeds city centre in Princes Avenue... A Taste of the totally Tropical
Review of Tropical World (Leeds) by  Paid.Ark.Man

Advantages: Good selection of animals to view
Disadvantages: Repeating areas you've already visited

...I first visited this attraction way back on a school when I was in short trousers and my top lip was marmite. Only recently did I darken its doors again and I felt like I was back in my school days and half expecting Miss Richards to shout "STOP TEASING THOSE MONKEYS!" I did expect a lot of natural evolution over the twenty years plus since my last visit and there have been an improvement but sadly no, apart from the lick of paint and shift round of the gift shop it seemed almost the same. Open every day excluding Xmas and Boxing Day, Tropical World attracts 1 million visitors a year to the 'Home of the largest collection of tropical plants outside of Kew Gardens'. At the staring point of the tour, Coronation house, you see a display of seasonal flowers as you past the small teashop on your right to head thorough an archway... Read review

Best place for tropical plants
Review of Urban Jungle by  lrhhart

Advantages: quick, professional, well-packed, well-designed website
Disadvantages: may occasionally be out of stock

...www.urbanjunglenursery.co.uk www.urbanjungle.uk.com I passed by this small Garden Centre in Norfolk once and was very impressed with the range of weird and wonderful mostly tropical plants. The greenhouses were beautifully laid out and the prices were very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, full of advice and tips. I was sad to find how quickly I filled up the boot of my car! Living in London though, I was very pleased to see they had started an online mail order service. The website is clear and very well-presented. It is very easy to find if they stock the particular plants you're after, but it's even more entertaining to browse through their entire range! The site is full of advice on how to look after the plants, and the prices are often far below other garden centres/mail order services... Read review

Spider plant - the easy option
Review of Spider Plants by  Conicview

Advantages: Easy to grow and propagate
Disadvantages: Leaves can turn brown at the tips

...Although spider plants are incredibly easy to look after they can't tolerate total neglect. The tips of their leaves get brown if they lack water or nutrition for any length of time. However, they are happy to grow more leaves and the brown bits can be trimmed with scissors. They especially like bathrooms where its warm, light and steamy. I particularly like spider plants because they look so exotic, they look good in a hanging basket or on their own. They also grow baby spider plants very easily and look even more tropical when this happens. I have had up to twenty babies at one time on a plant and I am sure this is quite common. To propagate them I detach them from the parent plant and pop in some water for a while till they grow roots and then pot them up. There are other ways of propagating though - like put in potting... Aparthotel Tamiamo Tropical Tenerfie
Review of Aparthotel Tamaimo Tropical - Spain by  seraph

Advantages: clean, lovely pool/area,good bar, helpful room service and reception, gorgeous gardens
Disadvantages: current building work (may 2003) nearby, late dustbin collection service from dustmen

...I first went to Tamaimo Tropical as a teenager with my parents in 1995, and enjoyed the whole experience as the pool was gorgeous and huge, with a heated section and a freshwater section and as a teenager you love all that. I returned again in 1997 with my parents to have an equally excellent time. My third trip to Tamaimo Tropical was in May 2003, I went with wmy boyfriend, younger brother (18 yrs) and his friend, we had a two bedroom apartment, and my mother and stepfather had a one bedroom apartment. As neither me nor my mother like to travel by coach and after a 4 hour flight you don't need to be stopping off at 6 different places before getting to your apartment so we hired cars from the UK before we left to pick up from the airport on arrival. Both cars were excellent and served thei purpose to the maximum, it took us 25... Read review

5 Loaves and 2 fish, novice guide to tropical fish
Review of Tropical Fish Care by  skrg28

Advantages: Good fun, fish nice to look at, lots more fish to look at
Disadvantages: Gets expensive depending on how many fish you have

...INTRO I decided to offer my knowledge so far on tropical fish keeping and in particular on keeping Platy fish. Now my wife and I started keeping tropical fish about 18 months ago, really an effort to spice up the lounge with a tank that was the same colour as the TV….. NOVICE FISH KEEPING So we went out as a good fish novice does and purchased a nice little silver tank and stand for a small and reasonable £79 for the entire kit. Again as good novices we purchased as many fish of different types as we could get in to a small tank. Well a week went by, and we learnt our first lesson. When you buy a new tank you need to give it about a week, depending on the size for the water to settle and stabilise. Knowing everything we didn't bother and as a result our group of 4 zebra tetra fish decided to have a suicide pact and we were... Read review

Prickly Plants!
Review of Cactus by  SnowiestElf

Advantages: Low maintenance
Disadvantages: Spiny

...from becoming pot-bound. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Place cacti and other succulents in a position appropriate to their cultural needs. Most species need full sun, although some prefer dappled shade. The maximum daytime temperature in spring and summer should be 27 - 30 degrees celsius (81 - 86 degrees fahrenheit), and the night-time temperature 13 - 19 degrees celsius (55 - 66 degrees fahrenheit). During the dormant season, most plants should be kept at a temperature of at least 7 - 10 degrees celsius (45 - 50 degrees fahrenheit), although species from the tropics and equatorial regions may require a warmer environment, with a minimum temperature range of 13 - 19 degrees... A House Plant For Beginners!
Review of Spider Plants by  micksheff

Advantages: Very Litle Maintenance
Disadvantages: Can Quickly Take Over

...I have never been one to have to too many House Plants in my home, partly because I tend to forget to water them for weeks on end and also because my two Cats like to destroy them. One type of Plant that I have always had however are Spider Plants or to give them their correct Latin name Chlorophytum (or Chlorophyta in the plural). These Plants may not produce beautiful Flowers like many other House Plants but they do add a little bit of colour to my home and more importantly they seem to thrive on neglect. Spider Plants are Indoor Plants that need plenty of daylight but they shouldn't be placed in direct sunlight. I used to keep my oldest Plant on a Window ledge until I noticed that the tips of the edge of the leaves were beginning to get scorched and were turning brown. I now have it proudly displayed on top of a low Cabinet... Read review
