A very pressing matter!

Advantages: Easy to set up and use, generally good results
Disadvantages: Slight "show through" of side seams

...Having been used to the luxury of a trouser press when I lived with my parents (and I don't mean Mum doing the ironing for me!), it is something I have been meaning to purchase for some time but, until now, there have been other demands on my finances. I have always been the kinda guy who likes to have my trousers neatly pressed, but also the kinda guy that manages to get "tram lines" instead of a single crease when I attack them with an iron! Also, all that fuss of ironing them through a handkerchief so that they don?t go shiny ? urgghhh! Enough! So, I finally got round to making the purchasing decision a few weeks ago and opted for the 4400 model which is the second model in the range and was retailing at £99.00. The main difference between the different available models falls into two areas... the type of timer and the finish...

No Pressing Problems

Advantages: Presses trousers with minimal effort and produces a sharp crease.
Disadvantages: If the trousers are not put in perfectly you get a 'tramline' effect.

...I remember my father coming home from work each evening and beginning the ritual of ?changing out of his suit?. This was the 1950s and memories of clothes rationing were still strong, so clothes, any clothes, were looked after and made to last. I think this is why I?ve always been unable to dispose of any clothes until they actually fall off my back! My father?s suit would be removed, brushed and checked for any marks or necessary repairs and the jacket would be hung up to air. The trousers would be carefully straightened and laid between the mattress and the bed base to be ?pressed? overnight. The system worked well and cost nothing, but had its drawbacks, not least of which was the certainty of a row if there was someone in the bed at the time. A trouser press could have saved a lot of trouble. The principle of the press is...

Morphy Richards Trouser Press

Advantages: Quick and easy
Disadvantages: Too short for 36' leg trousers by around 1-2 inches

...The is a very sturdy trouser press. Once turned on, it has a self timer and will turn itself off after a certain length of time. One downside is that i am a very tall - 6ft 5 and so my trousers do not fully fit into the press by about 2 inches. But that is the best i can get, apart from getting the iron out. On the rear of the device is a hanger to put your jacket on which is also detachable. On the top of the machine are 2 trays to put your loose change and keys from your pockets of your trousers before you put them in the press. The metal bar you use to release the arm that presses the trousers is easy to use and presses the trousers well onto the heated other side. Overall, i rate this item 8/10 I hope this helps....

Don't laugh - the Corby is quite useful actually

Advantages: keeps your suits tidy and puts the creases back in your clothes
Disadvantages: can put creases in the wrong place if you don't put trousers in carefully

...No-one who has ever stayed in a British hotel can surely be unaware of the Corby trouser press. I do wonder if there are any other manufacturers apart from Corby who make trouser presses. The three words are synonymous. The Company John Corby Limited is the company that makes the Corby trouser press. It was established in 1930 by John Corby in Windsor, England and originally made valet stands. A valet stand is wooden frame for putting a jacket on and hanging trousers overnight, so you could put them back on again in the morning. That'll be an over-engineered bedroom chair then, basically! But John Corby took them to a new level by adding a pressing area and lo! The first Corby trouser press was invented. They stuck a plug on them during the 1960s, so they were electrically heated. In 1977 John Corby Limited became part of what...

Press on ........

Advantages: Quicker, easier and no aching back!
Disadvantages: Takes up more room than an iron

...I was in need of a new iron. Not something for which I really wanted to shop as I had been perfectly satisfied with the one I had. The problem was that the cable had become rather worn and I was beginning to feel that it was dangerous. Apart from this I was never comfortable with the ironing board and consequently the ironing became a chore to be put off as long as possible! In fact, not ALL of the ironing was a chore - some I quite enjoyed - some got put back time and again until desperation set in and I HAD to get it done. This was usually bed-linen. Whilst I realise that a lot of people don't bother ironing bed-linen these days, I was brought up to expect smooth well ironed sheets so they HAD to be ironed! I had often looked at presses and thought it would be nice to be able to afford one of those. However, they...

PURE PRESSED PERFECTION

Advantages: even flawless perfect coverage
Disadvantages: price

...Some foundations which I wear really do play havoc with my skin; some of them are too oily and look really bad when I apply them, some give me dry skin and others block my pores and give me spots. I have lost count on the amount of money which I have wasted on foundations over the years, if I don't like the look of it when I apply it or I find that it dries or irritates my skin them I'll throw it in the bin straight away regardless of the amount of money which it cost me. On one occasion I spent £30 on a foundation which I only bought because I had heard that it was really good, only to throw it in the bin after three uses because it made my skin look all dry and blotchy. I had almost given up hope of finding the perfect foundation for my skin until my mums friend recommended Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Base to me. Albeit it is...

Review of Jane Iredale PurePressed Base

disappointing results

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: poor result

...I used the press on a pair of lightweight man-made fibre trousers. Although I found it very easy to use the the results were disappointing. It left an embossed effect which then required ironing in the traditional way.(which kind of misses the point! I feel the press would have benefited from a temperature control device for different fabrics as I also used the press on my husbands suit trousers which again I had to iron although the embossed effect wasn't quite so noticable. I found the press was easy to use although sometimes getting the creases in the correct alignment was awkward. The press was very easy to clean and maintain but I did find finding a suitable area to put the press in my bedroom was awkward due to the postion of my electric sockets and the problem of trailing flex and wardrobe doors.Overall I think I will stick to...

Perfect Pressed Powder!!

Advantages: Inexpensive and really works
Disadvantages: No powder puff included

...As you can probably tell by my previous reviews that I am a Clinique fan! Everyday I use their liquid foundation finishing off with a dusting of loose translucent powder! Now despite the Clinique powder being so fantastic I have discovered that this is not suitable for transporting in ones handbag! Much too big and also rather messy if it was to open. Then I had a brainwave (bit unusual for me that one!) - why don?t I buy a pressed powder compact for touching up my shiny patches in the afternoons! Call me tight or a skinflint if you want ( I am Scottish!!), but there was no way that I was forking out another £17 for a Clinique powder albeit a pressed compact one. So whilst in Superdrug one day I had a browse at the make up. My goodness what a selection they had. There were six or seven sections of well known brands...

Review of Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

A cheap and not so cheerful pressed powder!

Advantages: Cheao and it does make the skin feel soft
Disadvantages: No visible results apart from a powdery look

...The other week when out on a date I got totally drunk! Hence to say the date didn't go at all well (the main reason I reckon I got drunk actually lol) but worse than that I lost my No7 brand new pressed powder! The following morning I woke up with the hangover from hell and missing my powder cursing saying I'd go out with someone in the first place! lol. So what I did was buy my favourite Max Factor pressed powder to make up for the loss but at the same time knowing I'm prone to losing things when I'm out and about that I'd buy myself a cheaper one. So the idea was to use my favourite in the house to complete my look but if I took a cheapo one out with me and lost it...well no harm really done! So that's why I bought this one! It's usually a mere £1.99 a compact but it's currently on offer that if you buy any 3 items from the range...
