Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) ~ has many guises and causes, but in particular this review is intended to make women who use tampons aware of the possible risk; although dog owners, in general, may find this of interest (surf to the end). TSS, for those of you who have never heard of it, is quite a rare, serious and potentially, if contracted and left undetected, fatal type of blood poisoning. ...about 10cm (Regular – I don’t know about the other absorbencies), although the tampon itself is much smaller. The wrapper and the applicator are apparently biodegradable, meaning that if there is no bin available then it should be safe to flush down the toilet. They are available in Mini, Regular, Super and Super Plus – the whole range. The box which they come in is 3 tone blue (what is it with me and 2/3 tone blue things!) and the boxes which I buy contain 12 tampons. However, they are also available in larger boxes of 32. On the outside of the box is some basic information about absorbency, telling you that you should change every 4-8hrs and to use the lowest absorbency for your flow. ...-compak, cheaper, ones for storage. As I just mentioned, each tampon comes individually wrapped in a plastic outer. These used to be paper in the older tampax packages. Now they are 'handbag proof', but are less environmentally friendly. The wrapper is bright yellow (not all that discrete!) with pretty pink flowers on them. For some reason they seem to feel the need to make this feminine product even more feminine! They come in two absorbencies - regular and super. There are other absorbencies in the other tampax varieties. According to the packet, Regular will absorb 6-9g and Super will absorb 9-12g. I don't know about you, but I can't visualise (and don't particularly want to!) exactly how much that is! One side shows the special opening of the tampon, the back gives a little description of the product and a warning for TSS, and the third side shows more products in the Kotex range. The box front is square and only 1.5" in dimension so it seemed pretty unlikely that something so small would be effective. Tampons and towels both don't allow all the nasty stuff to get out completely, and tampons in particular can dry the vagina. Mooncups get rid of all the bad stuff, whilst leaving behind the natural moisture. 3. They help you not to get Toxic Shock Syndrome TSS is one of those illnesses that kills people and yet no one ever seems to really know what it is, and some people have never even heard of it. As I'm writing this review, I'm trying to remember everything I've ever heard about it, and all I can come up with is the leaflet inside tampon boxes telling you not to leave them in longer than 8 hours.
