A Tuba Concerto - not a common sight
Review of British Tuba Concertos by  SScott764

Advantages: Good tuba muisc
Disadvantages: None

...The tuba has generally been ignored as a solo instrument, and although it enjoyed some success in Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and the operas of Wagner, it didnt really emerge as a solo instrument until the 20th century. However, recently the tuba's potential as a soloist has been realised through the children's tale, Tubby the Tuba, where the whole point of the story is to highlight the fact that most peoploe would not think the tuba of being capable in taking a soloistic role, but the fact that it can take this role, and take it extremely successfully is shown here in this CD with these four Tuba Concerti, that were all written in the years after Tubby the Tuba. The first Tuba Concerto on the CD is Tuba Concerto (1978) by Edward Gregson. 1 - Allegro deciso 2 - Lento e mesto 3 - Allegro giocoso This concerto begins... Read review

Yamaha 4C Clarinet Mouthpiece
Review of Yamaha 4C Clarinet Mouthpiece by  gsdlover

Advantages: Very smooth sound
Disadvantages: None

...After losing my previous mouthpiece in an accident, i can only comment well on the smooth sound i get with this mouthpiece. It has been very useful for getting to the high notes and allows a wide range of expressions i was not able to play before, this may have been down to me getting better at the instrument. It was very easy to break in and it is now moulded to my mouth perfectly, im sure the clarinet players out there will know of the common whtie marks seen at the top of a mouthpiece. It is very high quality and was expensive but well worth the money. Reeds fit beautifully with it and a high quality cork was used. I can only say that occasionally when my mouth is tired after playing for extended periods, it sometimes lets out a squeak, but this is a combination of reed, mouthpiece, and facial muscle tiredness.... Put it in your mouth and blow, not suck...
Review of Van Doren Clarinet Mouthpieces by  CareBear

Advantages: Good quality and reliable brand
Disadvantages: Can be more pricey

...Play around with it in your hands. Is it a good weight? Is it symetrical with a good curvature? Give it a good blow. Put it right in your mouth. Does it feel good? As your lips curl around do you contact in the right places? Now for the cap. .......wondering what I am on about? Why, clarinet mouthpieces of course! If you are a beginner then unless you are in the extremely rare position of owning an instrument without a mouthpiece stick with the basic mouthpiece that comes with the clarinet. As you progress, as with reeds, and instruments, it is quality that counts. I have found vandoren reeds and mouthpieces to be about the best around for a good, but amateur player. I use a B45 mouthpiece and it took me right up to performance diploma level with my pair of Buffet R13s. However, there really is no hard and fast rule... Read review

Tubas, Mullets and Government Conspiracy Theories
Review of Hitler Bad Vandals Good - Vandals (The) by  eca99ajm

Advantages: Some INCREDIBLEY catchy tracks and very funny vocals
Disadvantages: Whiney voices and some bellow par tracks

...The Vandals. What can you say about a band who cover such diverse topics as mullets, dead girlfriends, government conspiracy theories and Tubas? Well, you can say that The Vandals were formed in the early 80’s in Orange County and are perhaps the biggest ‘comedy’ punk group around. By ‘comedy’ I don’t mean the music – The Vandals play full on punk music – they just have very bizarre lyrics covering a vast range of topics…. At the time of this album, the line was: Dave Quackenbush (Vocals), Joe Escalante (Bass, backing vocals), Warren Fitzgerald (Guitars, backing vocals, Keyboards) and Josh Freese (Drums and backing vocals). The cover is pretty boring with a picture of the good ole USA with a nuclear family in the middle. The notes do get a big thumbs up from me because... Read review

Silberfischchen will have the wonderful smile
Review of Colgate Dental Floss by  Silberfischchen

Advantages: tube, price, taste..
Disadvantages: none

...on the packaging with a simple slogan: "Tastes and works!" And this also is, really, the case. It surely tastes mint, however, not too strongly. Therefore this is an ideal combination for each. How is the packaging formed? This sort is sold in two filling amounts, once to 75 and 100ml. The packaging is held wide in red, and near the real firm and enblem the content materials, service numbers and how on almost every other packaging still are also praises. The tube stands on its head and is by pressure very easy to empty. (no annoying one roll up like with the smaller, lying paste tubas ...) The content materials? I will specify here now simply not the content materials, because they do not interest most anyway. I can only say which my dear brother and I the paste use now since approx. 2 months and up to now no side effects have appeared... Read review

Again again! Play it again Mummy and Daddy.
Review of Children's Favourites - Funtastic DVD by  garleon

Advantages: This can keep the kids quiet ALL day and night.
Disadvantages: This will annoy you ALL day and night

...have included a brief description of each episode so you can check if your little one has already seen it a million times on TV already. Fireman Sam-Mummie's little pumpkin Stop motion models No I have not "spelled" the title incorrectly. "Witch" is because this is a halloween episode.Norman accidentally burns down his Mum's shop by knocking over a pumpkin lantern. The Little scamp.Sam and friends come to the rescue and the great fire of Pondypandy is averted again Thomas and friends-Thomas and the tuba Model railway Thomas accidentally steams off from Knapford station without the Tuba Player. Which is rather unfortunate because the rest of the brass band are waiting for him to play at Lady Hatt's birthday party. While Thomas races all over the island looking for the wayward tuba player, said musician gets a ride on Trevor... Selmer Serie II Tenor Sax
Review of Selmer 54 Paris model Bb series II Tenor Saxophone by  poooookie

Advantages: Nice Dark tone, good intonation, and smooth engraving
Disadvantages: This horn is quite expensive and the positioning of the palm keys doesn't quite suit my hands - the price is the only real disadvantage though!

...comfortable, and the mechanism on these keys, tilting them according to which keys are pressed, to facilitate use of the rollers is very effective. As with all selmers, this sax is supplied with a C* ebonite mouthpiece, which is a very good mouthpiece, used by both professionals and beginners alike, however I do not particularly like this mouthpiece on this horn, and I prefer using a more open mouthpiece, and also a more jazzy mouthpiece (as I am mainly a jazz player), such as a meyer 7. Also, like all Selmer's, this sax is not normally supplied with a case, so be prepared to shell out around £100 for a decent case (the selmer cases are closer to £200, but you can get a good enough case for £100) Overall, this sax is well built, and easy to play, with a nice rich tone. It is also finished neatly with lovely engraving. I personally like... Read review

Great for grade 7+ or university/college student
Review of Yamaha YAS62 Eb Alto Saxophone by  saxappealct

Advantages: Lovely rich tone, redesigned more comfrotable playing position
Disadvantages: None

...to spend, this sax is also available in Silver laquer and Matt gold. The sax is provided with a stylish material covered hard case in black, yamaha custom 4C mouthpiece and sling. The YAS62 is of a medium weight and weighs roughly 2.5KG. It has a superb, smooth key action owing to the Blue needle steel springs which provide a much faster response than other competitors. This particular sax has a slightly unusual low Bb key action which I found hard to get used to at first, but now find it a lot easier to make the transition down from B/C# to Bb compared to other saxes. In general, the key shape on the 62 takes a little getting used to as Yamaha have recently totally redesigned the shape to allow player to hold the sax in a more natural and comfortable position. When I bought the sax it came provided with a 4C Custom mouthpiece... Read review

What more could you ask for
Review of Nokia 7110 by  grahamgibson

Advantages: Large screen, easy use, protected keypad, built in modem.
Disadvantages: Trouble getting a hold of accessories.

...My Nokia 7110 is the second mobile phone that I have owned having very quickly outgrown the first model that I had (a Motorola c520). I knew that I was beginning to demand more from my phone and although I wanted one that was rich in features I also required that it be uncomplicated and easy to use. Having shopped around and weighed up the decisions I opted for the 7110 and, believe me, I'll be hanging onto this one for quite a while. First of all it's a nice looking phone that, although still relatively big compared to some models, it's still quite compact when it's sliding mouthpiece is closed (the mouthpiece also protects the number buttons when in this position). A slight press of a recessed button on the rear of the phone and the mouthpiece snaps down ready for you to talk into (automatically answering an incoming call as you... Read review

Great all round instrument
Review of Bach Stradivarius Bb trumpet by  Terigoche

Advantages: Versatility - useful in classical and lead work, big sound, reliable
Disadvantages: 3rd valve spit valve awkward, bulky case

...This has been my main instrument for 5 years -not once regretted buying it. I use this trumpet for playing in orchestras as well as doing a lot of lead stuff, some solo work, and it seems to perform very well in all areas. I use a warburton mouthpiece (10* backbore 4D cup) so can't comment on the mouthpiece that came with the instrument. My spec: ML Bore with reverse lead pipe and size 43 bell. Response: One of the best things about this trumpet is its fast response in tonguing and running up and down the whole register. Playing you can really feel how the notes are going to come out and they do instantly as soon as you hit them, in contrast to small delays I've found with other makes. Sound Quality: The sound quality of this model is really top class too. A really open aperture can provide more benefit than it would on other... Read review
