...First off what an easy to use laptop full of built in features for a very reasonable price ( £349.99 upwards) was £380 when i purchased mine but is worth every penny. Why people pay in excess of £500 for machines with a lower spec is beyond me. Acer have come a long way in providing great quality laptops at a lower price. on first run you follow the setup options and then it recommends you create a restore disc i did this using 2 blank dvd's with ease just following the on screen instructions. once this was complete i did the windows updates to get it fully upto date. The inbuilt wireless adapter (Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter) connects so easy to my wireless network with a reasonable range even in the garden. ...So what's it got and is it worth it. My 530 come with Vista Home Basic 32 pre-installed with the option of the Business 32 version for a little extra. It's powered by an IntelCore Due T2050 processor at 1.6GHz with 2MB level 2 cache and 533MHz FSB. The memory let's it down at only 512Mb, which struggles to keep up woth the demand of Vista. The good news is that the memory can be upgraded to up to 2Gb, however we opted to trash Vista in favour of our ol favourite Windows XP Home. Storage is a reasonable 80Gb SATA Hard Disk Drive and a combi DVD/CD RW drive wth double layer capability allows for essential backups, and writing speeds that won't keep you waiting. Since I work with multimedia and am very impressed with the software delivered with iLife (disk included with the Apple products) I was disappointed to see that most of the items which are of use, do not work using Leopard. So I returned to the older Tiger and this is the system that I am presently testing. With only 1GB of memory I believed that the applications may be a little slow but actually everything seems to be operating as usual. My old Titanium runs at 400MHz and so with the present speed of 2.16GHz I expected an increase in speed but should have known that there would be no change. Manufacturers use these numbers in an attempt to impress you, to make you part with more money than necessary. I tell you this because Apple try to "screw you over" somewhat, as they offer three different models of the MBP. Let me explain. There are two versions of the 15.4" model, the second one having a 2.5GHz processor and a 250GB hard drive. The other difference you might notice if you look closely is that the processor cache size is 6MB not 3MB. Six is a bigger number than three, so the smaller one must be rubbish... Read review

...had researched a number of machines before I settled on this one. I had been looking for a mid-range machine with enough power for Office applications and Internet, email and just possibly Championship Manager - if I ever have the time! I felt that the N200 offered a good screen (15.4in) with reasonable processing power from the Centrino 1.5Ghz (Santa Rosa chipset) web camera, card reader and I liked the idea of the fingerprint reader for security. I had not seen Vista before and was initially surprised to see how quickly the machine booted, however, I soon realized that this was smoke and mirrors on Microsoft's part, arriving quickly at the log-in screen but in truth much was still going on behind the scenes. ...295XP is more than capable. I mentioned before that this was beyond what I expected since the FS295XP comes installed with an nVidia GeForce Go 6200. This nVidia graphics card uses dynamic shared memory, which means it shares up to 128MB of the laptop RAM for its video memory. For the performance hungry, this can be a detrimental factor, but in my experience of the FS295XP, it is more than capable in this respect. DVD playback is smooth, and 3D graphics are generally stable. The display on the FS295XP is truly a massive selling point. The display is a 15.4 inch widescreen 1280x800 capable Sony X-Black2 LCD panel. If you are deliberating between this FS295XP and another laptop, make sure you pop to a local stockist to see the FS295XP display - it will win you over! ...You might not have thought of Dell as being your initial choice for gaming laptops, but well in my view, you should convert after this. On paper, the Inspiron 8500 looks like a bargain, but it's unlikely that first glipses will leave you in awe and wonder. It is grey and blue, there is no match, which puts it in the same league as an executive machine, not a power gaming laptop. All this is quite relative, so the real power is shown on boot up. It has everything you will ever need: DVD vurner, 15.4" widescreen monitor, ATi Raedon 9600 Pro graphics and it kills 3D platformer games. The 15.4" monitor is made even better with a ultra fast response time, and ultra-sharp pixel graphics, this just shows off to the rest of the pack.
