Tulip Inn Amsterdam West - Cheep & Cheerful
Review of Tulip Inn City West, Amsterdam by
Paula_23_uk
Advantages: Cheap, Cheerful and Clean
Disadvantages: Bit far out from centre and good 15 mins walk to tram stop down dark canal path
...If you want a cheep but cheerful hotel for a great weekend in a fabulous place then Tulip Inn Amsterdam West is for you.
The Tulip Inn Amsterdam West is a 3 star hotel situated in the western area of Amsterdam (3 stars indicates that the hotel has a quality rating). There are 162 rooms, which are reasonably priced and during my stay there, the room was clean and had maid service every day.
I stayed at the Tulip Inn Amsterdam West in December 2005 with 3 friends and we booked 2 twin rooms. The trip was extremely good value and was booked through Expedia at a price of £116 each including flights and 2 nights (3 days) stay at the hotel.
The hotel states that it's facilities include; airport transportation (at extra cost), breakfast room (at extra cost), Wireless Internet access, Free Parking, Conference Rooms, a Restaurant...

Tulips From Amsterdam
Review of Tulips by
chattell
Advantages: Satisfaction and Colour
Disadvantages: Not To Everyone's Liking
...century they were brought from Turkey to Holland. They became more popular in the 17th century for the use as a decorative plant and for medicinal purposes.
As everyone is aware Holland is well known for its vast array of Tulips, with hundreds flocking there in the spring months, this I would love to see and visit.
Amsterdam is the home of the worlds' biggest flower auction, but apparently more and more are know grown in the U.K
So, for the planting
The bulb will thrive in almost any type of soil but obviously where there is some drainage and with some light and water the soil after you have planted them.
When purchasing the bulbs if they do not look too great then don't buy them, a good looking bulb means it look great when in flower.
Planting times are October until the end of November ideally, before the hard frosts set in.
I...

The gilt has long faded on the Golden Tulip
Review of Golden Tulip Amsterdam Zaandam, Zaandam by
koshkha
Advantages: At least I wasn't spending my own money
Disadvantages: Plenty - just book a proper hotel somewhere more sensible
...nearly missed the aiport the second time because our boss was pushing the wrong button.
Do I recommend?
What do you think? Of course I don't. This was a ridiculous hotel that was poor even by Dutch standards. The price of Euro134 per night (about £105 for B&B) was far too high for the standard of rooms available and the location would have been less of an issue if the person who booked the hotel had actually explained how to get there. This hotel needs a major refurb and update to drag it up to date but even that won't make the rooms bigger or the location quieter. If you could get a really good price and there was NOTHING available in Amsterdam that you could afford then it's not a bad commute in daylight but a bit freaky after dark. I really can't see any reason to choose to stay in Zaandam and certainly not at the Golden Tulip...

Golden Tulip
Review of Golden Tulip Amsterdam Centre, Amsterdam by
robhatfield81
Advantages: Location, Good Deals
Disadvantages: Over starred in my opinion
...I booked a long weekend for myself and my girlfriend in Amsterdam Just before Christmas 2006. I had a look on laterooms.com (if you haven't used this site before, do it is excellent value) and found the Golden Tulip in Amsterdam offering us a room for 3 nights in their 4* hotel including breakfast for a little under 300 euros.
I was sold on the executive sounding nature of the rooms, its central location, traffic free area and of course the included breakfast.
We arrived at central stn a little early for our check in time of 2pm, probably somewhere near 11.30, but we turned up at the hotel anyway and asked to check in. The staff were very friendly, took our payment upfront (rather than on check out) and added on the 5% city tax for foreigners (keep this in mind). They were more than helpful in storing our bags for us and suggesting...

Amsterdam - A tourists guide
Review of Amsterdam in general by
Jennyrose
Advantages: Easily accessible from UK, Cheap flights/coach transport.
Disadvantages: Small city and not many maps so you get easily lost
...'t rely on the Dutch to learn and speak English.
Description of Amsterdam
Topography
Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, or The Kingdom of The Netherlands is the name of the country, which holds one of the most visited capital cities in the world. The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch, which is spoken throughout the country.
In the northern area of Friesland, however, a large percentage of the population speaks another Germanic language, Frisian, as its first language. Do not confuse this with Flemish which the Belgians speak.
With flat countryside ideal for those who enjoy cycling, The Netherlands is a compact country with a rich culture. The countryside is scattered with windmills and Tulip fields, and the coast lined with sand dunes and dykes. The river Amstel runs through Amsterdam. Its many beautiful towns and cities...

More than tulips in the Amsterdam Garden
Review of Bilderberg Garden Hotel, Amsterdam by
trevorbrock
Advantages: Luxury, comfort, and being treated like royalty - plus wonderful food.
Disadvantages: Makes other hotels seem ordinary
...A November holiday is not everyone's ideal - nor was it ours, but 'needs must.'... and it was our 30th wedding anniversary !
Since Easyjet were starting their Belfast to Amsterdam journey, it was decided that a break for a few days in Amsterdam was a possibility.... though for some reason colleagues in hospital and church kept teasing us like mad about coffee shops and red lights for some reason !!!??
1 LOCATION :
The Garden Hotel is part of the Bildeberg group, and this particular hotel is located in the Museum area of Amsterdam.
Basically that meant it was a pleasant walk in the crisp November air to get to the Van Gogh museum, and then a bit longer walk into the centre of the city.
There are the legendary trams and the service is so brilliant, we used them a fair bit too. O for public transport in UK like...

More to Amsterdam than Just Drugs & Sex
Review of Amsterdam (Netherlands) by
bunny711
Advantages: a variety of activities; English-speaking; friendly people; good museums; interesting night life
Disadvantages: not car-friendly; bicycles have right of way; changeable weather
...When you think of Amsterdam do you immediately conjure up an image of a hashish-filled hippie haven with hustlers lurking behind glass windows and sex shops everywhere? While this is, of course, all a reality, there is much more to Amsterdam.
Often tourists jet into Amsterdam for a weekend, stay in the expensive hotels and canal boats in the noisy city centre, and leave with the impression that Amsterdam is only a Red Light District - although an interesting one at that. But just a stone’s throw away lies an expanse of pastoral fields and villages.
If you stay in and around Amsterdam, like us, you can get to see and experience the city of Amsterdam and also easily explore other areas in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the perfect base to explore other areas close by, which makes for a holiday with a lot of different things to do...

Amsterdam - without the Sex and Drugs
Review of Amsterdam (Netherlands) by
Elanor
Advantages: beautiful architecture, loads to do, great food
Disadvantages: nearly run over by bicycles
...and Muntplein, the flower market had huge displays of tulips at ridiculously cheap prices. Sadly there was no point buying any, but I did buy some tulip bulbs. Again, the choice was huge, and the prices extremely low. The stall I bought mine from had an enormous range of pick'n'mix tulip bulbs, with 30 bulbs costing only 5 Euros. There were types I had never seen before in England, including a pure black tulip, bright blue ones, and frilly purple ones, as well as the more traditional colours.
Finding places to eat was easy - there are loads of restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes. We had some excellent meals, one very reasonably priced, one mid-range, and one that was wickedly expensive but worth every penny.
On thing I would recommend more than anything else, if you decide to go to Amsterdam in winter - take a scarf! When that wind...

Golden Stay in Amsterdam
Review of Golden Tulip Amsterdam Centre, Amsterdam by
Lyndsayep
Advantages: Close to Centre
Disadvantages: None!
...This was my first visit to Amsterdam and as a 25th pressie to my fiancee I thought I'd book us into 4star luxury in the centre.
I paid 235 euros off laterooms, and this was for 2 nights in an executive room without breakfast. I don't know what made the room executive because it seemed pretty standard to me, but was comfortable, clean and to a decent spec, ie reasonably modern and new. There were coffee & tea facilities, a mini bar and snacks which were of course very expensive, and complimentary toiletries. Be warned that there's a fair amount of free hard care porn on their pay per view TV so be warned if you have children as you'll have to ask staff to disenable the channel.
there was a phone, desk, hanging space etc in the room as you'd expect for 4 star, hairdrier, free safe, extra blankets and pillows, heater...

Heineken Experience, Amsterdam
Review of Heineken Brewery, Amsterdam by
ailuj34
Advantages: Free Heineken
Disadvantages: None
.... This is an actual bar with seating and standing tables. You hand in one of your orange disks here and receive in return half a pint of Heineken in a proper Heineken half pint glass.
The atmosphere is relaxed, chatty and there is music though not too load. The bar is formal looking though cosy.
The Heineken is ice cold, though it has a rather large head on it, unlike in England where we don't like our heads at all. (Nevermind!)
It is rather warm inside the museum, so the Heineken went down swiftly and we moved on.
This is 'right at the centre of the antique heart of the brewery'.
10 MAKE YOUR FRIENDS JEALOUS
This area you can send a photo or video mail to anyone you like. Friends, family anyone who has an email.
The video area which was a large white screen, stage and music (think it was Tulips from Amsterdam playing).
