...If you want a cheep but cheerful hotel for a great weekend in a fabulous place then Tulip Inn Amsterdam West is for you. The Tulip Inn Amsterdam West is a 3 star hotel situated in the western area of Amsterdam (3 stars indicates that the hotel has a quality rating). There are 162 rooms, which are reasonably priced and during my stay there, the room was clean and had maid service every day. I stayed at the Tulip Inn Amsterdam West in December 2005 with 3 friends and we booked 2 twin rooms. The trip was extremely good value and was booked through Expedia at a price of £116 each including flights and 2 nights (3 days) stay at the hotel. Advantages: Close to the heart of Glasgow

Advantages: A beautiful Spring bloom

...As we head into the Spring months it is good to realise that we have the beauty of the spring bulbs to look forward to. Many of the supermarkets and florists have potted bulbs on sale already which are fairly inexpensive. Tulips have to be a favourite with many, there are so many varieties which offer a wonderfully attractive display of colour. Last year I planted some dwarf tulips in pots and although I had a good colourful show I have chosen to revert back to filling my tubs with the normal bulbs which provide stems at around 15 inches high. A few days ago I was walking around Lidl`s discount store and came across large bunches of healthy looking single tulips which were marked at £2.92 a bunch, considering these had been grown abroad and had been picked bunched and wrapped before importing they were such a bargain. The gilt has long faded on the Golden Tulip

Disadvantages: Plenty - just book a proper hotel somewhere more sensible

...nearly missed the aiport the second time because our boss was pushing the wrong button. Do I recommend? What do you think? Of course I don't. This was a ridiculous hotel that was poor even by Dutch standards. The price of Euro134 per night (about £105 for B&B) was far too high for the standard of rooms available and the location would have been less of an issue if the person who booked the hotel had actually explained how to get there. This hotel needs a major refurb and update to drag it up to date but even that won't make the rooms bigger or the location quieter. If you could get a really good price and there was NOTHING available in Amsterdam that you could afford then it's not a bad commute in daylight but a bit freaky after dark. I really can't see any reason to choose to stay in Zaandam and certainly not at the Golden Tulip...

Not bad for a 5* hotel near a city centre. ...OK so there is another review, I know. Here's mine. The hotel is very conveniently located about a 10 minute walk from Amsterdam CS (central station), just off the SE corner of Dam Square. Just look up as you enter the square - you cannot miss the Rho sign. Our room was on the second floor and as a result somewhat noisy at night. (It was locals too, not tourists, making the noise!!) Our friends were on the top floor and had a much nicer and quieter room. Try to get top floor when you check in! The rooms were clean and light. Of reasonable size (our friends room was actually very large) and really quite comfortable. The staff were very friendly and of course (this being The Netherlands) English was spoken perfectly. ...I went on holiday recently with a bunch of lads to celebrate our 21st Birthday....what we did in Amsterdam though for that is a different story xD However on browsing the internet we originally settled on a hotel which was said to be literally 1 minute walk away from the city centre. However due to some stairs being described as the 'Stairs of Death' We decided to upgrade to a 2* Hotel instead! On arrival in Amsterdam, we found a booth at the train station where you typed in the address of your hotel, and it located it for you and printed it along with tram lines and numbers to get, So we printed and thought with our luggage, oh that doesn't look far, we'll walk there. ...If you are ever considering a short break in Amsterdam I would highly recommend staying at Hotel MISC. My girlfriend and I stayed here in March for 4 nights and it was excellent! It is a 2 star hotel but I prefer this to a number of 4/5 star hotels I have stayed in. It is very homely and the owners Rachel and Pepijn are very accomadating and friendly. It was my birthday on one of the days we were there and Pepijn put a bottle of lovely sparkling wine outside our door as a surprise! When you book with hotel MISC they offer a taxi service that picks you up from Schipol airport and takes you to the hotel for 37.50EUR. This is a fixed price and cheaper than trying to get a taxi outside the airport. The taxi was an immaculate mercedes driven by a very friendly and helpful dutch guy.
