Royal Tunbridge Wells

Advantages: nice place to visit
Disadvantages: none

...Tunbridge Wells- A Nice Town to visit The official name is Royal Tunbridge Wells and it is in the West part of the county of Kent. You will find Tunbridge Wells along the northern part of the High Weald and it borders on to Surrey,West Sussex and East Sussex .Tunbridge Wells is graced with woodlands and parkland. The larger area of woodland is the Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall Common that is 250 acres in size and it has wood and heathland and is situated near the town centre. This area is very popular with people and in the summer there are many who go there to picnic. Near by is the cricket ground which you will find near Wellington Rocks Calvery Grounds which is a historic park where there you find a bandstand and ornamental gardens. This park was part of the Mount Pleasant Estate where there was a house there which in...

Tunbridge Wells:Royal Spa

Advantages: Varied architecture.Elegant shops. Green open spaces
Disadvantages: Lack of night life

.... The latter,in particular, should not be missed for it provides some of the finest rock climbing grounds in the South East of England. This elegant spa town is a first class place to stay and is very much in the first rank of best hotel towns in Kent. It is also a good town for eating out and has a large number of good restaurants, including ethnic eateries. Royal Tunbridge Wells is very well situated for seeing a number of fine historical houses, castles and gardens. There is,eg,Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Penshurst Palace, Scotney Castle and Sissinghurst Castle Garden ,all within easy reach. Do not expect vibrant night life in Royal Tunbridge Wells but if its charmingly varied architecture, green open spaces and elegant shops you are after, this is the place !...

The Wells on the Bus

Advantages: Pleasant surroundings, the best part of the country
Disadvantages: Hustle and bustle, traffic

...Sorry about the title. I have just been singing this to my two-year old daughter, and a slight perversion of the title is fitting for this opinion. Okay, here we go. I was born in the picturesque town of Royal Tunbridge Wells (hereafter referred to as RTW) 33 years ago. I was born in a village on the north-western edge called Rusthall. When I was two I moved (well, my parents moved and I went with them) to a village on the eastern edge called High Brooms, where my father had grown up. I spent the next 24 years, more or less, living in that village. So where should I start... Well, why not at the beginning? THE BEGINNING The town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is a spa town resort located in the middle of the High Weald of the South East of England. It has been around as a settlement since around 1620, when Lord North, a fabled...

Things to Do In Tunbridge Wells

Advantages: lively picturesque town with wide range of activities
Disadvantages: expensive

...As a 18 year old resident of Tunbridge Wells since 1996, I have a wide knowledge of the attractions and facilities available to young people in the town. The Chalybeate spring from which the town was born was discovered in 1606, thus, in comparison to the surrounding towns, Tunbridge Wells is quite a newly developed community. The older part of the town is the most historically interesting and beautiful, with the pantiles, an area of mostly Tudor townhouses running along the bottom of the common. In 1630, the town was christened 'Royal Tunbridge Wells' following a visit from the Queen Henrietta Maria, mother of Charles 1. In 1678 the Chapel of King Charles the Martyr was built. But Tunbridge Wells did not start to develop as a town until about 1680. From then on houses were built at Mount Ephraim. In 1682 land near the common was sold...

The Royal Wells Inn- "The Royal"

Advantages: 24 hr bar, luxury, well presented rooms, Affordable!!
Disadvantages: Having to leave!

...Firstly the Royal Wells Inn/Hotel/"the Royal" are the same things, a beautiful hotel in Tunbridge Wells. The Royal Wells Hotel Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN4 8BE I was lucky enough to attend a wedding this weekend very near Tunbridge Wells, and of course we had to look for accomodation. It was a complete surprise, that my boyfriend had already booked a hotel when the bride announced the date and place nearly a year and a half ago. Apparently she had recommended this hotel as an excellent place to stay to all of her guests. The Royal Wells Hotel got its name from Queen Victoria, who often visited as a young princess in the early nineteenth century. Later through her rein, she allowed the use of her Coat of Arms, which are prominently displayed at the entrance. Today the hotel still retains much of its Victorian...

Castle Museum in Kent

Advantages: Eclectic Museum set in pleasant grounds
Disadvantages: Not as good as nearby Hever Castle.

... Visitor Information Chiddingstone Castle is 5 miles from Edenbridge in Kent, between the two more famous historic attractions of the area, Hever Castle and Penshurst Place. Travelling by car, without a sat nav, we found it best to follow the signs to nearby Hever Castle on the major roads. As we got nearer, on the B2027, we followed the Chiddingstone signs. If you have a sat nav, you will need the postcode TN8 7AD. They are open Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from Easter until the last Sunday of September. Information about additional open days can be found in the What?s On Section of their website, which includes Halloween and Christmas events. Prices are £6 adults, £4 children aged 5-13, under 5s are free. There are also family and season tickets. History Exhibition rooms in the current...

SOMEONE HAD A VERY DIRTY WEEKEND HERE

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: See review

...On a recent business trip to Tunbridge Wells in Kent, I was rather hard pressed to find a decent hotel. The town is very popular with tourists, but modern, well-equipped hotels are still quite few and far between in the town centre. My corporate booking agency finally came up with The Swan so that’s where I ended up. The hotel is situated approximately ten minutes walk from the train station, right in the middle of The Pantiles – the main shopping/tourist attraction in the town. One side of the hotel (the side where the main entrance is) faces directly onto the main road through the town centre – the other side looks out onto the pedestrianised Pantiles. Needless to say, the roadside is infinitely less attractive than the other, so I was a little bit dubious as I made my way into the building. The Swan is not...

Gym'll fix it

Advantages: Light and welcoming to get you motivated
Disadvantages: An expensive luxury if you don't attend often!

...When I moved out of London, finding a new gym was pretty high on the list of things to do. For me, easy parking is essential and the Esporta Tunbridge Wells is in a purpose built entertainment park, Knight's Way, at the northern Tunbridge Wells turning off the A21. The staff who first show you round are predictably very friendly and can be a little pushy in trying to get you to sign up, but I was impressed by the facilities and managed to negotiate a good deal. If you pick your moment well, there is bound to be some kind of promotion on and expect a small reduction in the monthly fee or waive of the joining fee. I paid a very reduced joining fee of about £30 (this is 2 years ago) and pay 52 pounds per month. If you can pursuade a partner or friend to join too you can save money with joint membership. On the ground level there is...

Some fields in Kent

Advantages: Commonplace
Disadvantages: Rare

...that. It would also be a safer place - safer for the diversity of nature, and safer from our reliance on monoculture, on chemicals and on high energy inputs for our food production. We as a species are taking a gamble that all these things will be sustainable, even in the face of the changing climate that our numbers and activities engender, and it is a gamble that may well be lost. One of the values of places like Marden Meadow is that they remind us we should think about such things. What's more, there's no charge for entry, which makes it especially good value for money. If you feel you ought to be giving something back for your enjoyment of the place, you can always make a donation to Kent Wildlife Trust, which owns it. * Who's in charge * Kent Wildlife Trust is an independent charity dedicated to nature conservation in...

A - Z of Kent

Advantages: Totally comprehensive guide to Kent
Disadvantages: Although navigation is easy, the volume of information is enormous and to fully explore the whole site could take days

...www.kent.gov.uk is the official Kent County Council website. Not the sort of site you’d pick to browse if you’re looking for thrill a minute fun and excitement, but if you have an interest in Kent for any reason, be it from the point of view as a current or perspective resident, business person, or visitor, it is well worth a look..... “Welcome to Kent, the Gateway between the UK and Europe, and to Kent County Council's website. This is a new site and content will be regularly added and updated. We hope it gives you lots of information about Kent, Kent County Council and its services.” The home page is visually plain and simple, displaying the short greeting message (above), in basic black arial font on a crisp white background. The main category headings of the site are displayed, in bold red font...
