Palm Tungsten vs Ipaq, sayonara Ipaq
Review of Palm Tungsten T by
thijsj
Advantages: small, fast, sexy, best palm ever
Disadvantages: relatively high price
...I never thought I would make the case for a palm handheld from 3com. I used to be a dedicated Ipaq fan but got increasingly disappointed with it. So I decided to take a bold step and try out the new Palm Tungsten. In one word: AMAZING! I will compare, wherever possible the Tungsten with the Ipaq. Note that I am comparing the new Tungsten with my previously owned Ipaq 3850.
For exact specifications of both PDA's I refer you to the www.palm.com and www.compaq.com
Look and feel
I always found the Ipaq sexy, but it is still a bit bulky. The Palm is not much lighter (6.2 oz vs 5.6 oz for the palm), but much smaller (length 4'' vs 5'' for the Ipaq). This is due to the fact that the bottom slides open to reveal the grafiti writing area. The garfite colored aluminium casing feels much more sturdy than the aluminium looking, though plastic...

Tungsten E2, my first PDA
Review of Palm Tungsten E2 by
monsieur.Joda
Advantages: easy to use, long battery life, great screen, read the review
Disadvantages: read the review goddammit!
...BACKGROUND
********************
I am a bit of a gadget nerd. I love gadgets. When I see one I don't need, I'll find excuses to need one.
I started a new job few months back, and I saw one of my workmate pluggin a PDA to a craddle everyday, until the day I asked him about it.
When he showed me, I thought that was really cool, and I wanted one. I bloody hardly knew about PDAs!!!
Anyway, I searched for the same as his, a Palm Tungsten T3, but it was apparently discontinued... SO I started a painstaking search for the new gadget of my dreams (needs): A PDA. Ta da da...
After a few weeks browsing around, I came to the conclusion that the cheapest and apparently most suitable for my needs was the Tungsten E2, that I bought from Pixmania.com (reviewed by me in previous episodes, check it out...).
LOOKS

It is a PDA...

Dont stick your Tungsten at me, I Palm you up!
Review of Palm Tungsten E by
china_wolf
Advantages: Slim, large screen, portable, sexy, like a super model turned into a PDA
Disadvantages: Battery life, ugly interface, sounds like a dying giraffe sometimes
...hours, that's very dissapointing since the Palm is not that fast. I am glad it's not a pacemaker.
So flaws aside what can this piece of technology do? Well you can view your pictures with it, you can edit your Office Word/Excel/Powerpoint files on it, listen to MP3s, watch videos, take quick notes, organise your day, surf the internet (when it has internet access) and read ebooks with it. All this straight out of the box without purchasing extra software. There are also games on the device and emulators that let you play console games i.e. Gameboy Advance, so that's very tempting (you must own game to be legally allowed to play it on the Palm) but they will need downloading or purchasing. This device really is a mini box of tricks, I actually wrote this review on my Tungsten E before uploading it here. Not to shabby don't you think...

What a machine!!!!
Review of Palm Tungsten T2 by
gpk115
Advantages: Great new pda!!!
Disadvantages: none!!!
...On the outside, the Tungsten T2 is nearly identical to its predecessor, the Tungsten T. The only noticeable differences are its new color -- silver rather than gunmetal -- and its noticeably brighter display. Otherwise, nothing's changed, including its innovative "slider" design
For those unfamiliar with the "slider" design, here's how it works. The device starts out in "compact" mode, only four inches tall. But pull down on the bottom of the unit and it grows to a full 4.8", revealing its dedicated Graffiti 2 text entry area. And to go along with it, Palm includes a stylus that also changes size. It fits compactly inside its silo, but press down on its spring-loaded top and up it pops, full length and ready to go. Nice touch.
Why the metamorphosis? Palm realized that consumers want as compact a device as possible, and its research also revealed...

A powerhouse of a PDA with lots of features
Review of Palm Tungsten T3 by
Vicster1784
Advantages: Amazing screen, easy to use, lots of features
Disadvantages: No Wi-Fi, quite expensive
...I got into PDAs a while ago and after owning a couple of them, as well as test-driving quite a few, I settled down with a Toshiba e750 (see my review). The downside of that machine is that it’s geared up to sync with Microsoft Outlook, and at my new job I have to use Lotus Notes. I then heard from some of my co-workers that Palm machines handle the sync with Notes better, so I decided to try out my friend’s Tungsten T3. This is the second time I’ve ever used a Palm device since I had my m130 (see my review) and I was quite impressed at how far Palm have come in their OS and features in the last couple of years.
Design:
The T-series Tungsten’s share a similar design and feature the slider that usually covers the writing area. It looks very similar to a T2 or a T Tungsten and in fact the devices are the same size. The main difference...

2YsUR 2YsUB ICURaT34Me!
Review of Palm Tungsten T3 by
Kirsty1
Advantages: A sexy toy, erm which does lots of important things too!
Disadvantages: Can only use some of the functionality with people with compatible devices.
...PDA’s have come a long long way since I used a Palm 100 in the early 90’s – they had rather dodgy software and hot synch connections, a black and white screen and minimal applications. Still, it was a little revolution in its own right back then. The one I upgraded to was the Palm V which was really quite similar, but more robust and reliable; but still reliant on the cumbersome “grafitti” stylus-writing unless you bought a little keyboard to go with it.
So when I came to buy a new PDA late last year my thoughts immediately turned to Palm once again. I did research my options on the internet but really found very little honest comparisons of the various machines out there and very many praise-filled opinions which were really nothing more than justifying purchasing decisions already made.

Fast, functional, and packed with features!
Review of Palm Tungsten C by
t0m101
Advantages: Fast, huge storage capabilities, wireless internet, great software, easy to use....
Disadvantages: Mono audio
...I have been using the Palm Tungsten C for 6 months with exceptional performance and quality. I will convey to you, in my opinion, what I believe are the most important features of the device.
-> Design
To look at the Tungsten C is very sleek. To accomodate the full qwerty keyboard the screen is not the full size of the device but roughly two thirds. The screen is cystal clear and provides exceptional colour even with high definition digital photos. The device is very slim at only just over 1cm thick. There is a slot down one side to keep your included metal stylus, and the other side has a slot for the removable screen protector. At the top of the device is a SD card slot, the infa-red port and a mono (small scale) headphone/microphone aperture. To the bottom is the universal connector which is used for charging and connecting...

A new way to interact - The Wacom Graphire 3
Review of Wacom Graphire3 Classic - mouse, digitizer, stylus by
pmcrannog
Advantages: Comfortable stylus, not bottom range but not top range either
Disadvantages: Slight scratches on the surface of the tablet are visible after a lot of use
...The Wacom Graphire 3 (Classic)
If you have a look at prices of graphics tablets you'll find they vary dramatically, and the reason for this isn't just the size (or more importantly the active size/area) of the tablet but how the stylus actually works.
Cheaper tablets usually require batteries and some even have the stylus attached to a cable. Yes, they are very tempting with their low prices but you'll most probably regret it after using a 20mm (diameter) extruded piece of plastic that the manufacture tells you is a stylus. Many people overlook how important HIDs (Human Input Devices) actually are, and yet they are the only way to interact with your computer. What use is a high spec computer if you cannot interact with it efficiently?
All of Wacoms tablets use an EMR (Electro Magnet Resonance) technology so they get their power...
