Palm Tungsten vs Ipaq, sayonara Ipaq
Review of Palm Tungsten T by
thijsj
Advantages: small, fast, sexy, best palm ever
Disadvantages: relatively high price
...I never thought I would make the case for a palm handheld from 3com. I used to be a dedicated Ipaq fan but got increasingly disappointed with it. So I decided to take a bold step and try out the new Palm Tungsten. In one word: AMAZING! I will compare, wherever possible the Tungsten with the Ipaq. Note that I am comparing the new Tungsten with my previously owned Ipaq 3850.
For exact specifications of both PDA's I refer you to the www.palm.com and www.compaq.com
Look and feel
I always found the Ipaq sexy, but it is still a bit bulky. The Palm is not much lighter (6.2 oz vs 5.6 oz for the palm), but much smaller (length 4'' vs 5'' for the Ipaq). This is due to the fact that the bottom slides open to reveal the grafiti writing area. The garfite colored aluminium casing feels much more sturdy than the aluminium looking, though plastic...

Tungsten E2, my first PDA
Review of Palm Tungsten E2 by
monsieur.Joda
Advantages: easy to use, long battery life, great screen, read the review
Disadvantages: read the review goddammit!
...BACKGROUND
********************
I am a bit of a gadget nerd. I love gadgets. When I see one I don't need, I'll find excuses to need one.
I started a new job few months back, and I saw one of my workmate pluggin a PDA to a craddle everyday, until the day I asked him about it.
When he showed me, I thought that was really cool, and I wanted one. I bloody hardly knew about PDAs!!!
Anyway, I searched for the same as his, a Palm Tungsten T3, but it was apparently discontinued... SO I started a painstaking search for the new gadget of my dreams (needs): A PDA. Ta da da...
After a few weeks browsing around, I came to the conclusion that the cheapest and apparently most suitable for my needs was the Tungsten E2, that I bought from Pixmania.com (reviewed by me in previous episodes, check it out...).
LOOKS
************
It is a PDA...

Dont stick your Tungsten at me, I Palm you up!
Review of Palm Tungsten E by
china_wolf
Advantages: Slim, large screen, portable, sexy, like a super model turned into a PDA
Disadvantages: Battery life, ugly interface, sounds like a dying giraffe sometimes
...hours, that's very dissapointing since the Palm is not that fast. I am glad it's not a pacemaker.
So flaws aside what can this piece of technology do? Well you can view your pictures with it, you can edit your Office Word/Excel/Powerpoint files on it, listen to MP3s, watch videos, take quick notes, organise your day, surf the internet (when it has internet access) and read ebooks with it. All this straight out of the box without purchasing extra software. There are also games on the device and emulators that let you play console games i.e. Gameboy Advance, so that's very tempting (you must own game to be legally allowed to play it on the Palm) but they will need downloading or purchasing. This device really is a mini box of tricks, I actually wrote this review on my Tungsten E before uploading it here. Not to shabby don't you think...

Fast, functional, and packed with features!
Review of Palm Tungsten C by
t0m101
Advantages: Fast, huge storage capabilities, wireless internet, great software, easy to use....
Disadvantages: Mono audio
...to your PC. The reverse has just the mono speaker, and two slots to allow it to be held in a special case. I personally purchased an aluminium hardcase to protect my Palm and this well worth the extra money.
-> Hardware
The specification for the Tungsten C speaks for itself. The 400MHz processor is more than capable of handling anything I have asked the device to do. My old laptop has a processor of this speed!! From the 64MB ram stated, you get 51MB of storage space as standard for all your applications and files
With respect to the PC requirements almost any PC from the last 5 years, with a USB port, should have no problems connecting to the PDA. The cradle included is easy to install and get you up and running.
-> Software
Included is not only the Palm OS but heaps more software to get you going. Particularly useful...

In you Palm
Review of Palm Tungsten E2 by
donf18
Advantages: A neat unit with lots of applications
Disadvantages: None
...The Palm Tungsten is a sleek cool looking handheld with a vast array of features that are going to suit the majority of users. It comes with most of these features pre-loaded, but there are more on the provided CD which also contains the software to enable synchronization with your PC or Mac. Also provided in the box are several power adaptors which will make in rechargeable almost worldwide. Although the unit comes with Bluetooth there is also an additional cable supplied which will link your Palm to your computer for the transfer of data. I have found through experience that the cable method is definitely significantly quicker compared with the Bluetooth, but again each to their own.
One thing I have noticed is that the lifespan of the internal rechargeable lithium battery is greatly improved from previous...

Its Fast and Furious!
Review of Palm Tungsten C by
anthmack
Advantages: Beautifully clear bright and sharp screen, WiFi Access without huge loss of battery, 51 MB ram And fantastic processor mean its FAST, Built in QWERTY Keyboard, A wide array of both downloadable and supplied (on disc) software
Disadvantages: Only comes with a mono speaker and headset, Cannot use the voice recorder without the optional! headset, very little or limited MAC support, Screen is very delicate and can easilly break, and having fat fingers, the keys are a bit small and fiddley
...* Initial Note *
Speaking on behalf of the family, the Palm Tungsten C has just been purchased by my sister. Joanne works in Marketing for a scottish brewery, which means that it is essential for her to be organised, as well as have relatively easy access to applications where she can do her work, and even more importantly something that can be served as a good communication device.
This accumulation of needs, required her to purchase something that would allow her to do her work, whilst on the move (she is always travelling). So this wee little handheld device was purchased for exactly this reason, and as I have experienced, serves her well. (-and me well, lol)
So, why should you, or should you not buy the PALM Tungsten C, well, I shall explain.
*Its features*

Get yourself organised!!
Review of Palm Tungsten T by
BournemouthLad
Advantages: Compact, excellent screen, fast processor, availability of software
Disadvantages: Easy to turn on by accident if you don't use the cover
...screens, more memory and newer software. This means that the Tungsten T is available at much better prices and, I feel, gives a good balance between cost and effectiveness.
It is great for keeping yourself organised and having facts at your fingertips which may otherwise be stuck on your computer. The screen is clear with good colour – you will find that you will probably use it with the light on all the time – even doing this battery life is good. It fits easily into a jacket pocket and the build feels pretty robust being manufactured in aluminium. Be careful to use the plastic cover supplied, or invest in another hard case, as it is easy to accidentally turn on the Palm if it is in a pocket with the buttons uncovered.

Real Economy PDA
Review of Palm Tungsten E by
blairtony
Advantages: Fast and has an excellent display.
Disadvantages: No universal connector.
...The Tungsten E is one of the most exciting models to come out for the general consumers with Palm OS. This model has the speed, quality and memory that all of us desires, You have a high resolution color screen, decent battery life, a good amount of memory, expansion capability, and more with a few drawbacks. It has a classical look similar to Sony’s T-series PDA’s, having a dimension of 4.5 x 3.1 x 0.5 inches and weighs in 4.6 oz.
This unit is easy to hold and the case can easily get some smudges and fingerprints, it has a five way navigator and four standard application buttons. The 4 application buttons are Calendar, Contacts, Memos and Tasks. The application and 5-way navigation pad layout are a combination of old versus new styling. The buttons are easy to press and have excellent tactile feedback, although when you press...
