Tungsten E2, my first PDA

...BACKGROUND ******************** I am a bit of a gadget nerd. I love gadgets. When I see one I don't need, I'll find excuses to need one. I started a new job few months back, and I saw one of my workmate pluggin a PDA to a craddle everyday, until the day I asked him about it. When he showed me, I thought that was really cool, and I wanted one. I bloody hardly knew about PDAs!!! Anyway, I searched for the same as his, a Palm Tungsten T3, but it was apparently discontinued... SO I started a painstaking search for the new gadget of my dreams (needs): A PDA. Ta da da... After a few weeks browsing around, I came to the conclusion that the cheapest and apparently most suitable for my needs was the Tungsten E2, that I bought from Pixmania.com (reviewed by me in previous episodes, check it out...). Palm Tungsten E2

Advantages: Stylish, Durable, Easy to use.
Disadvantages: No Wifi, Limited SD Card Memory

...I bought the E2 about a year ago (2007). Since then I have greatly enjoyed using it. This Palm Pilot comes with Real Player, and all the other great programs that Palm always includes. It is very easy to install new programs from the internet and on the disc that is included in the package. It is very handy when managing one's daily life. I personally use it to manage my money, daily, monthly, and yearly activities, its great if you need to jot something down real quick, It stores all my phone contacts and eMails. Its also great for checking eMail on the go. You can download your eMails from you computer through the mail application or it you have a Bluetooth connection to your phone you can check via that. Dont stick your Tungsten at me, I Palm you up!

Advantages: Slim, large screen, portable, sexy, like a super model turned into a PDA
Disadvantages: Battery life, ugly interface, sounds like a dying giraffe sometimes

...constantly it's 3 hours, that's very dissapointing since the Palm is not that fast. I am glad it's not a pacemaker. So flaws aside what can this piece of technology do? Well you can view your pictures with it, you can edit your Office Word/Excel/Powerpoint files on it, listen to MP3s, watch videos, take quick notes, organise your day, surf the internet (when it has internet access) and read ebooks with it. All this straight out of the box without purchasing extra software. There are also games on the device and emulators that let you play console games i.e. Gameboy Advance, so that's very tempting (you must own game to be legally allowed to play it on the Palm) but they will need downloading or purchasing. Advantages: Very easy to use
Disadvantages: can't think of one.

...I have had my E2 for about a year and it is still going really well. Having had different types of memory electronic gadgets llike electronic diaries and such, this was exactly what I was waiting for. The PDA feels good in your hand, it feels ergonomically right, it has substance like a quality product. This may sound a strange description, but sometimes it is good to feel something that feels well built and strong, not flimsy and plasticy. I am the type of person who really can't be bothered reading instructions, I am sure there are lots of you out there that feel the same. It is so simple to use, even the most basic understanding of gadgets will have people very familiar with what this PDA can do within an hour. It comes with most of these features pre-loaded, but there are more on the provided CD which also contains the software to enable synchronization with your PC or Mac. Palm Tungsten vs Ipaq, sayonara Ipaq

Advantages: small, fast, sexy, best palm ever
Disadvantages: relatively high price

...platform to a palm platform. At home (windows XP) these fears seemed warranted. It took me a while to get the system completely clean and hotsync the palm without trouble. But with fast and excellent e-mail support by Palm (3 months free after purchase) the problem was solved within a day. At the office (Windows NT) it was not a problem at all. I think installing new applications on the palm is much more intuitive than on the pocket pc Price The Tungsten is pretty expensive but not much more than the Ipaq. I think it is great value for money, but if you can wait, do so, as the price will certainly drop after X-mas. I realise that this review is far from exhaustive, but the purpose was to give you my feel of my surprise with the superiority of the Palm compared to the Ipaq. Conclusion, buy the Palm Tungsten, sell your Ipaq on Ebay!!!...

Palm Tunsten E - Ideal PDA for those on a budget

Advantages: low price, colour display, easy to use
Disadvantages: no cradle, limited expansion

...Fed up lugging a bulging filofax around? So was I, but I don't anymore. A beautiful clear colour display and generous memory is what makes this PDA stand out from its brothers. It has all the standard features you would expect: clock, calendar, note pad, address book, calculator, to-do list, etc., plus it will Hot-Sync with your copy of MS Outlook. It also has Palm's eBook software, although you can download Acrobat as well if you want. The new Graffiti 2 is easy to use, with only a few minutes required to learn. It can display photos and play MP3s, but you'll need a memory card for this. I would recommend that you go for the hard case though. Finally, rechargeable batteries and a near-universal charger complete the package. All in all, a great PDA for the price....

...Many of you may be wondering what a PDA actually is. Well, the best description I can come up with is that it is a 21st century filofax. However, its functions go far beyond anything a filofax could ever conjure. I received this particular PDA, PALM Tungsten E, as a birthday present. To be honest, I had very little clue as to what they could do but the more I have used mine over the last week, the more useful it has become. I believe it will be of even greater use next year when I go to university. Good for the Price

...I spent quite some time researching Palm's because my fiancé wanted one for Christmas. Whilst I may be a bit of a geek I had no experience of these at all. After a few weeks reading and talking to people it seemed that this Tungsten had what I needed, it had a nice clear screen, high resolution 16-bit (64k colour), but the cover was a little pointless, its quite light at 133g and it has 32mb of non volatile memory, which means that if the battery dies you do not lose anything. For protection I think it may be worth investing in a harder cover. I was a little annoyed that I had to either buy a "wireless adaptor card" so I could sync it with a wireless laptop, or buy a "laptop Bluetooth adaptor" so its own connectivity could work.
