Tunis Air - Surprisingly Impressive
Review of Tunis Air - TAR by
chloelowndes
Advantages: Lovely food, brilliant service, great seat pitch
Disadvantages: Inflight Entertainment did not work
...Tunis Air (Arabic: الخطوط الجوية التونسية) for those that are not familiar with the name, is the flag carrier airline of Tunisia and is rated as a 3 star airline by Skytrax. It was formed in 1948 and currently operates 113 scheduled international routes flying into over 80 European, African and Middle Eastern airports. It has a fleet of around 32 aircraft and since 1961 has been continuously renewing this fleet ensuring that the airline keeps up with the changing demands of its' passengers.
Just to give you some basic information about the airline itself before i give you my experience of flying with them;
Seat Pitch: 32 inches
Baggage Allowance: 20kg
Business Class: Espace Privilege 38 inch seat pitch

Good value city centre hotel in Tunis
Review of Hotel Maison Doree, Tunis by
jane_tew
Advantages: City Centre hotel with bar selling alcohol
Disadvantages: None
...The Hotel Maison Doree (2*) in central Tunis is one of many hotels at the lower end of the price scale. We stayed for 3 nights in Feb 2007 & the price for a double room, bed & breakfast, with ensuite bath/shower/loo worked out at around £19 per night. It's traditional French colonial style, the rooms are a decent size with high ceilings, old-fashioned dark wood furniture, and nicely shuttered windows. Lovely Tunisian-style tiled walls in corridors & staircases. They also offer rooms with ensuite shower but no loo even cheaper.
Staff speak good English (although a smattering of French will get you a long way in Tunisia), and are very helpful.
Drinking alcohol in Tunis isn't easy - many of the cheaper hotels don't serve alcohol, but the Maison Doree has a small TV lounge and attached bar.
It's ideally placed just off the Place...

Senses working overtime
Review of Tunis (Tunisia) by
fizzytom
Advantages: A truly amazing place - a feast for all the senses; cheap and very cheerful
Disadvantages: You WILL be harrassed constantly by people trying to sell you poor quality junk!
...If Istanbul is the city where Europe meets Asia, then Tunis is surely the place where Europe meets Africa. There are two distinct sides to this magical, mysterious and yet very cosmopolitan city; there is the old Moorish medina and the elaborate mosques and the New Town with it's French influences and architectural Art Nouveau styles.
I visted Tunis for just one day as part of a weeks holiday in Hammamet down on the coast. We had intended to take the train but, having arrived at the train station at Bir Bou Regba just outside Hammamet around 10.00am, we found out that Tunisan trains operate with the commuter in mind and there would be no more trains until the afternoon. We needed to find an alternative way of reaching the capital.
We decided to go native and go by louage. A louage is basically a minibus/taxi service. They leave...

Better than anticipated!
Review of Tunis Air - TAR by
frankiecesca
Advantages: The staff, food and seat pitch
Disadvantages: Not all aircraft have the seat back TV's yet.
...earlier on in the year with a much bigger and well known airline hadn't had the full on demand service - this was impressive!
The airline operate out of Heathrow in the UK but, do have other european bases they fly to including france and Italy. The main hub for the ailine in Tunisia is Carthage International airport in Tunis.
The staff:
The cabin crew were really good both ways - there was a good mix of men and women on both flights and most of the staff spoke Arabic, French and English - a good mix but as the main language of Tunisia is Arabic closely followed by French most Tunisians do speak these two languages anyway! The crew were good at gettting food served and were helpful when asked anything during the flight. The uniform for the staff is navy blue with white shirts and the woman I noticed, were wearing trousers. Maybe...

Tunisia - I Came Home For A Rest!
Review of Tunisia - Tunisia in general.... by
BNibbles
Advantages: Great Spring weather. Loads to see and not a mozzie in sight
Disadvantages: Local dishes a bit thin on the ground and insipid international cuisine
...there when Spring temperatures were a gorgeous 25C every day, and the white sandy beach at Port El-Kantaoui stretched all the way back to Sousse, some five miles away.
However, there’s only so much relaxation this lad (and his ladette) can stand, so get your sandwiches and vacuum flask ready – this could be a long one!
TUNISIA – WHERE IS IT?
Just before we went, an Australian colleague of my wife’s said “Tunisia? – I’ve got NO idea where that is.”
So for him and a few others, here’s a brief description.
Tunisia is ‘third country from the left’ in North Africa. These three, including Morocco and Algeria too are known as The Maghreb, i.e. the west in Arabic, I believe. Both the city of Tunis and the country itself are called Tunis in Arabic. It is a smallish country with about the same area as England & Wales, and two coastlines...
