Stylish Chinese Cuisine
Advantages: Good food, service and surroundings
Disadvantages: Not disabled friendly; minimum charge
...? apple was £1.20 and pineapple £1.50. As a starter we confined ourselves to a basket of prawn crackers (£1.50) with sweet and sour sauce. While we were waiting, one of the waitresses came and unfolded the napkins, put them on our laps for us and then removed the wine glasses. The other waitress asked if we were happy using chop sticks and took them out of their paper bags when we said yes.
For the main course we agreed that if we each ordered something different we could have a taste of each other's dishes. Tang's offers Cantonese, Peking and Szechuan cuisine. I was eyeing up the duck mains when my son's partner announced he fancied the crispy roast duck with pineapple (£8.50). I then turned my attentions to chicken with cashew nuts (£6), but of course my son said he had decided on that. Having been twice thwarted, I thought I'd have a look...

I LOVE my Lean Cuisines
Advantages: Tasty, convenient, nutrition information is printed on the box
Disadvantages: could be expensive for some people; sodium content is quite high
...Lean Cuisine is a range of pre-packaged frozen meals for those people who want to eat a lower calorie intake and lose weight, and are great for people to take as lunches to work as they cook in minutes in a microwave.
The range is very complete, and they cater to all tastes. There are Asian style dishes for those who like me love Chinese food - teriyaki beef, oriental beef, chicken fried rice for instance. For those whose passion is Italian, they do spaghetti, lasagne, and some other pasta selections, and they do a range of everyday type meals with vegetables.
Most of the selections are between 250-320 calories and they have a nutrition guideline on the package so you can check fat gms, sodium and cholesterol content, ideal for those who have other dietary problems and need to keep track of their intake of those items.

Tefal Steam Cuisine Steamer
Advantages: Great idea saves time
Disadvantages: None
...Well, it had to happen, I suppose. All good things must come to a end, as they say. Our faithful steamer gave up the ghost after nearly eight years of Stirling steaming service.
Time, we realised, to buy a new one. We decided to make our purchase of a new steamer at the BBC Good Food Show. After circling round and round the stands and displays several times ("too small, too big, doesn't look quite good enough, no WAY" are we paying that much!") we discovered the Tefal stand.
We both fell in love with the Tefal Steam Cuisine Steamer. My comment was: "My god, it looks like something out of Star Trek voyager!" For yes, indeed, the Tefal Steam Cuisine steam cooker does look incredibly funky and very, very modern. It also has, for the amount of food that it can cook, a relatively small footprint. And this is, in the tiny and pokey...

Tunisian Dream!
Advantages: Beautiful Hotel, Cultural Location, Excellant Food & Drink.
Disadvantages: Quite Expensive, Very Quiet Area.
...visited the country is at its hottest with temperatures soaring up to 90 degrees fahrenheit with at least 10 hours sunshine and very little rainfall. The weather was absolutely perfect and although Tunisia remains fairly warm throughout the year I'd certainly recommend visiting between May and November to experience the best weather. The currency used in Tunisia is the Tunisian Dinar which has an approximate exchange rate of 1 British Pound to 2.4 Tunisian Dinars. The country is also just 1 hour ahead of GMT so they'll be no jet lag when you arrive!
HOTEL LOCATION
The hotel itself is located 3.5km from the town centre which makes it a slightly lengthy walk during the hot summer day but we often walked back to the hotel in the evening as we found the cooler air refreshing. While we were staying at the hotel there was a complimentary bus...

Gourmet food for Dogs
Advantages: Nice treat for dogs
Disadvantages: Expensive for everyday feeding
...My daughter has a lovely Staffordshire Bull Terrier and his name is Mampi Swift, he sometimes comes to visit us and stay for the n night, if she and her boyfriend are going out so that he?s not alone all night and at times like these he like to get a little treat. His favourite is Cesar Canine Cuisine.
Cesar comes in a little tin which is 150g per tray and there are quite a few different flavours to choose from.
Mampi loves the T-bone Steak flavour and will sit patiently until you have opened the tray and put it in his dog dish then he waits until you say he can have it before devouring the lot in about five seconds flat.
The other flavours are Porthouse Steak,
Beef,
Braised Beef and Vegetables,
Lamb,
Top Sirloin,
Pork Tenderloin and the new breakfast flavours of Smoked Bacon and Eggs.
There?s also a Chicken, Chicken...

Monty's - the Python of Restaurants
Advantages: Good atmosphere, excellent service, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Inconvenient waiting area for queuing diners
...till 5.00 p.m. and 6.00 - 11.00 p.m. on Sundays. They do a nice buffet lunch on Sundays for £8.50 from 12.00 - 5.00 p.m.
I'd also point out that Monty's is wheelchair friendly and family friendly too, although I've not noticed a baby changing room anywhere.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2006
Dined at Monty's again last night with some ex colleagues who are now my friends! We were having a reunion as several of us have moved onto new challenges in recent months and we quite missed working with each other.
We had decided to meet for a few drinks in Ealing before going to eat and my pals insisted that I choose the venue. Well, of course, I chose Monty's and just had to update this review to...

A taste of the Orient in deepest, darkest Surrey
Advantages: Nice food, excellent service
Disadvantages: A bit quiet so a tad lacking in atmosphere
...and dining in the corner himself, which was rather pleasant. I wouldn't say that the cuisine is spectacular but definitely steady and consistent, with some real potential hidden gems on the menu. Definitely recommended.

Tunisian Holiday - Part One
Advantages: The Culture
Disadvantages: Being hassled to buy and the weather
...the buffet restaurant, which served a huge variety of foods. Lots of meat dishes which proved popular with Mark, chicken and vegetarian for me, and of course lots of desserts. After filling up on food and sampling a glass (or two) of Tunisian wine, we began to feel better about our holiday and were looking forward to the next day.
A Relaxing Start
Opening the curtains the following day we were greeted by bright sunshine, and blue skies. Perfect. A quick breckfast and we were off outside to soak up the sun, until about midday when the clouds rolled in and everyone disappeared from around the pool. We took this opportunity to investigate the hotel bar.
The next day the clouds made way for a complete day of warm sunshine, which meant more sunbathing. As our hotel was located directly on a stretch of beach, we went off to explore. Skanes...

Brilliant British!
Advantages: Large quantity, taste etc
Disadvantages: vomit smell, expensive
...Last week me and my mum were going out to see a show, which was an hour away in the car. This meant I had to have an early tea, and on discovering we had nothing quick in our fridge or freezer we nipped off to Tesco in order to purchase a pizza!
On arriving at the frozen aisle I was distracted by an array of frozen meals in the freezer next to the pizza's. I knew on first glance I fancied a ready meal rather than a pizza and so I began to search for something suitable!
Among the tesco value, tesco finest, weight watchers meals and healthy living meals, I discovered a product I hadn't seen before! The particular product was Tesco; British Cuisine, Roast Beef Dinner. The frozen meal was held in a plastic tray, and a carboard sleeve was slid over! The carboard sleeve contained a scrumptious looking picture of what the meal looks like...

Helpful guide to low calorie cuisine
Advantages: Great recipes, photos and inspiration
Disadvantages: Some culinary expertise required. Not for beginners
...obvious but the truth is that many people these days just don't know how to cook healthily and here's where the book scores.
Ignore the "food personality" quiz at the start , it's just a bit of girlie nonsense to pad things out but these four clearly care about what they eat and , as a cookery book, it works.
Delicious low-calorie versions of fish pie ( celeriac instead of potato) , roast dinners amd even chocolate fudge cake are passed on with some aplomb plus a raft of lovely soups (tomato, chil and basil and mushroom and chestnut) , unusual vegetable dishes and desserts which won't destroy the waistline such as chocolate and orange tiramisu. .
The problem is of course that anyone prepared to take the time and effort to ditch the takeaways in favour of home cuisine probably won't have...
