Tent - ative about camping? Don't Be!!
Review of Lichfield Madrid 5DLX Tunnel Tent by
josarah
Advantages: Easy to erect, large, simple construction
Disadvantages: Heavy to Carry
...The Madrid is what is known as a 'tunnel' tent. This basically means that it is tunnel shaped, with an entrance at one end and 2 bedrooms at the other. The front door can be zipped out completely, leaving a gaping mouthed tunnel, or part of it can be rolled back and tied to one side, leaving a smaller, yet still fairly large gaping hole.
SIZE
The main attraction of this tent to ourselves was the overall size. As it's name suggests this is a 5 man deluxe tent so there is plenty of space for a couple. There are 2 bedroom areas, one which we use as the master bedroom that should sleep 3 people, and another that we use as a wardrobe/changing area that sleeps 2 people. Personally I wouldn't recommend that 5 adults go away for any length of time in this tent, unless you were very good friends and regularly slept together in very close quarters...

Lichfield Cherokee Tunnel 2 Tent
Review of Lichfield Cherokee 2 Tent by
north_north_west
Advantages: value for money, ease of erecting, space, ventilation, weight
Disadvantages: ventilation, mine leaked
...I bought this tent from a discount online store.
This is a tunnel tent and relies entirely on being properly pegged to stay erect but once it's pitched I found it more stable in the wind than any dome. On my own I can have it up in 5 minutes.
The living area is almost the same size as the inner tent and big enough to kneel up in. The tent comfortably sleeps 2 adults and accomodates 2 adults and a small child. The living area sets it apart from any dome tent especially for camping in the UK where the weather is so unpredictable. You could easily cook and spend a few hours in there without feeling uncomfortable!
It's also good for cycling as bikes and luggage can be stored in the front and it only weighs 4.2kg which is a good bit less than similar makes.
Inner tent has a lot of vents; good for summer but if it's cold...

Outwell Jersey Pop-up Tent - 2 man
Review of Outwell Jersey Pop-Up Tunnel Tent by
EasyExercise.co.uk
Advantages: easy to put up, quality, size inside, price
Disadvantages: size when stored, no porch.
...I already own 2 "normal" tents, but went on a 7 day bike race where i needed to put up and take down the tent 7 days in a row. I splashed out £45 for a "pop-up" tent. The thought of it errecting itself was very appealing!!
Sceptical at first, I popped the tent out of it's bag and pegged it down with 4 pegs.....job done......in about 60 seconds. I couldn't believe it could be so easy!!!! Once the tent is up it is like any other, with an inner and outer sheets (don't go for the cheap single skin ones). It has vent to help reduce condensation, although some did form, but then i've never been in a tent where there was no condensation!!!
The one I have is a 2 man version which accommodates 1 person + luggage with ease and would accommodate 2 people with some luggage.
This tent took on some heavy rain and wind in the 7 days i...

Vango's Erections
Review of Vango TBS Equinox 600 Tunnel Tent by
sdwill
Advantages: Lightweight, spacious, well made
Disadvantages: fiddly to put up
.... Besides it’s cheaper than hotels. But the good old Vango Force Ten was looking a bit the worse for wear so we decided to invest in a new luxurious but compact model large enough to accommodate 3 young children and 2 middle aged adults.
Tent design changed a great deal about 10 years ago with the advent of dome tents and tunnel tents. These incorporate flexible jointed poles, made either of metal or glass fibre. They increase the usable space inside the tent, having a curved ceiling, take up less room when packing and are lighter. Tent material has also improved greatly; you are no longer restricted to heavy weight canvas and you can choose from a range of polyurethane coated materials in a variety of grades. Inner chambers are made with breathable cotton, or nylon with sewn in groundsheets. You can still buy traditional ‘A’ Frame...

Robust, spacious 6 berth tent
Review of Vango Breckenridge 600 Family Frame Tent by
catherine2001
Advantages: very spacious, steel frame
Disadvantages: large pack, heavy
...than the width (so the tunnel arc is from front to back rather than side to side if that make sense). This means you have wide bedrooms and a very wide living area.
Has sewn in groundsheet, but the "lip" at the doorway can be hooked up or down, so you don't get the trip hazard you have with other tents with bucket groundsheets.
There are 3 doors so it is well ventilated.
Downsides - large pack - need a big boot or trailer. Heavy (though the pack has wheels).
We;re very pleased with it and feel it was good value for money, especially for a steel-framed tent....

chad valley pop up tent
Review of Play Tents by
anita.jones
Advantages: easy to assemble
Disadvantages: none
...I would strongly recommend anyone considering buying one of these tents, to visit woolworths and try one of these.
It really does pop up in seconds(on its own actully when you unzip the bag!!!!!!) and is as easy to put up and down as advertised.
I have seen the assistant struggle in the ELC to try and demonstrate their own brand tent.
I bought mine for my daughter several years ago and have found it well used,i also bought the tunnel to match and they are useful in the garden in the summer.
Another idea is when you visit anyone who are childless at least the kids have their own space in the tent to get out all their little bits and they cannot get under anyones feet.
Well worth the money and over the years since i got mine they have got better value.
Worth a look....

An Excellant Weeks Outdoor Experiance
Review of Outwell Nevada XL Tunnel Tent by
dreamscancometrue
Advantages: Spacious and strong Family sized Tent
Disadvantages: Its not an Hotel
...Outwell Nevada XL Tent.
A new range for 2007 but we were very lucky to pick one up at knock down bargain price, Three times year our local camping stockists, put a show on, of there goods at our local Forest Park, and the tents that are on display, are available at the end, at a vastly reduced rate.
And we picked it up for £147.00. Including a few extra's.
It was nearing the end of the season for camping, as the weather was getting cooler etc, but see-in my brother and his family also purchased a bargain at the same time, we decided to shoot of the following weekend, for a week in Aberystwyth's Cerdigan Bay, or as we now fondly now it as Tornado Alley.
Considering we had never pitched this tent before, we found it quite easy to put up, Three equal length durable poles provide the frame of the main body, with another pole...

The Best in its class
Review of Hilleberg Nallo 2 person Tunnel Tent by
C.Laslett
Advantages: Lightweight, superior quality, large living space for its class
Disadvantages: None
...We have had our Hilleberg Nalo 2 GT since 2002 so feel able to write review of it after several years of use. It has been around the world with us and is every bit as good now as it was on its first use.
At the time of buying it, we had never heard of Swedish manufacturer Hilleberg until we were introduced to the Nalo GT at tent show. We were looking for a lightweight tent to replace our North Face starburst and fell in love with the Nalo. The living space is huge for a 2 man tent. You could squeeze 3 people into the sleeping area at a push and the vestible space offers loads of room for gear (even a bike if you are touring).
It is hard to believe that such a spacious tent weighs only 2.4kg. That is thanks to the superlight 9mm poles and Kerlon 1200 fabric that Hilleberg use for their tents. The fabric is so thin that we wondered...

We tunneled through the mountain
Review of White Mountain Tunnel, Italy by
mumsymary
Advantages: Quick route to France from Italy or vica versa.
Disadvantages: Some people do not like going through tunnels , limited exits
...The tunnel under the white mountain,/Monte Bianca /Mont Blanc .
When you get to these mountains you can see why they are called the white mountains fantastic peaks white with snow. The picture is of the Italian enterence to the tunnel.
This year we drove all the way down through France to the Alps stayed a few days in a campsite in the Alps then journeyed on by road over the mountains to Italy. We did not go through the tunnel through Mont Blanc but went the long way round the mountain it took us all day.
After camping in the Aosta valley just the other side of Mont Blanc in Italy it was time to come home and we made a short cut through the tunnel.
Our experience through the tunnel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well first we had to queue about 15 minutes to get to the entrance of the tunnel a different day we had seen longer queues...
The Red Tent is... red, and a tent!
Review of The Red Tent - Anita Diamant by
electricfrog5
Advantages: A fantastic story
Disadvantages: Quite female focused, not really a bloke book.
...When (if) you read the bible, you often come across characters that pop up only once, and are in the spotlight for a moment, and then disappear again... but you suspect they have more story to tell than is recorded. For example, the story of Joseph (and his 'technicolour' coat) is famous, but what do you know about his only sister?
Nothing? Yeah me too! Until I read this fantastic book.
Anita Diamant takes the story of Dinah, mentioned only in passing in the bible, and develops it. The result is largely an imaginative work of fiction, however, it is deeply rooted in information from other sources. For example, Joseph's time in Egypt is included, and other stories about Jacob, such as his difficult relationship with his brother Esau. The Red Tent is therefore deeply plausible as a narrative. There are no details that jar, or suspend...
