ELONEX Desktop PC (Athlon 64 X2 6000+) from ASDA

Advantages: reasonable high spec, plenty of USB ports, wireless LAN, firewire, very good price
Disadvantages: missing operatin system CD-ROM for that batch, took a long time to get it

...I bought this system back in August from ASDA electricals (on behalf of Elonex) for £464.95 (+ £12 delivery charge) with standard 1 yr warranty. The system arrived 3 days later. Around that time only and at that price I got AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core Processor, integrated 256mb PCI Express Graphics card and 7.1 Surround Sound, 2GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM, 320GB Maxtor DiamondMax 21 SATA-II Hard Disk, 18x Samsung DVD-Rewriter Multiformat inc. dual layer, 20" LCD monitor with speakers, Multi-Card Reader, Microsoft Keyboard & Optical Mouse. The Operating system (OS) is XP Home (XP Pro would be nice, XP Pro 64-bit even better). All software and drivers are pre-installed. AMD turion tl-58:- a great prcessor all round

Advantages: speed, perormance, no dodgy intel media graphics
Disadvantages: none really

...The processor operates at 1.9 Ghz which is not the fastest processor in the world, the fastest in the family of processors is the Turion TL-66 at 2.3Ghz. This speed is definately not bad though, with many intel laptop processors coming in at around 1.6 Ghz to 2Ghz. The speed is definately more than fast enough for the standard home user and probably fine for business use or even professional use. Although it is not the fastest it is still reasonable, and it has to be said that being a laptop processor it can not be expected to reach the same speeds as desktop processors which I have known to reach 3.2Ghz. Dell Inspiron 1501 turion 64x2 TL50

Advantages: 80gb hdd AMD duo processor 64x2 , 1024 DDR2 RAM
Disadvantages: No firewire, intergrated graphics, No S-Video Port

...This is a excellent computer for either home or small office. The downside to it is that it has no firewire installed, and no S-Video port, also intergrated graphics , which uses some of your memory , therefor reducing speed a little. Having said that the AMD 64x2 dual processor make multi - tasking easy. It has Vista Home installed , this makes finding and using programmes much easier.It has a good quality DVD writer for dual format discs. It is lightweight for mobile use and very robust. For a good value laptop this is about the best for its price. It also has some software added such as Roxio for copying cd's and dvd's, it also has a 60GB hard drive for storage. Advantages: Cheap,Fast,Easy to Install

...only uses 65 Watts of Electric, Better for the environment  and cheaper for my bills. In Windows Vista the Processor gets rated 4.9 out of 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index which you can tell is very good for such a low priced CPU. I would recommend getting a Power Supply of at least 400Watts for this processor and it must have a 24 Pin Power connector and a P4 Connector for the Motherboard, if you do not the computer may not start. You will also need to find a compatible motherboard for this as well but if you are building your own PC I would suspect you know which parts to use. The CPU Runs at 2.3 GHZ it is overclockable but I did not try this as the computers were not for me. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ A very respectable processor

Advantages: Runs cool. Overclockable. Very stable

...Around a year ago, I built myself a computer and decided to continue using AMD processors as I have found them to be very reliable. I opted for the X2 4800+ as it was the right value of power and price. The installation of the processor was relatively hassle free and without problem as the bundled heat sink had easy fit fixtures attached to it. Once the processor was installed and all the componants put in place, the computer worked without a problem and even when putting the processor under load. Due to the case that I selected the air flow was fantastic so the processor ran realitvely cold, around 45 - 50 degrees. I found the processor to be very versatile as well, as I overclocked each core to over 3GHz without any loss of stability and there was also software provided that allowed for a variable clockspeed depending on the load...

The ATi HD 4870 X2 is a powerhouse... but is it really worth it?

...The 4870 x2 has been here for a few years now, and has certainly made a place for itself among the graphics card market, rivalled only by possibly-over-the-top cards such as Nvidia's GTX 295, and recently, ATi's own HD 5870 (which is also the first DirectX 11 card on the market). Setting up The card is huge, taking up the space of two slots (which is to be expected of current cards) but also being long. I found that it fitted nicely in my Full tower case, though one should detemine the size of their case before buying the X2. In my opinion, if you are buying the 4870 X2, you should get a full tower anyway, as the cooling requirements must be considered as well.
